What sort of gauges are they?

Are you sure it's the sensor? Probably the gauge.

Pretty sure I've got a spare temp sensor you can have, if it's the same as the one you have fitted.

The gauges I have are "AutoGauge Stealths 52mm" bought them on a group buy on scoobynet about 4years ago. I guess it could be the gauge its just I thought as it goes to maximum when connected to the sensor then the sensor must be giving it the maximum signal all the time? I'm not sure. I shall try checking the volts coming from the sensor if its a constant high or low then its probably the sensor.

The sensor I have fits into a sandwich plate on the oil filter, not sure on thread size because it was a while since I bought it but 1/8 or something rings a bell lol. I shall double check though. What do you want for the sensor, I would like to get that sorted as soon as I can really.

To my simple mind sounds like a wiring issue.

PM me your phone number and I'll send a picture of the sensor I have so you can compare it to the one you have fitted.

If it looks the same just send me your address and I'll send it down to you.

It should fit your sandwich plate as it's currently loosely fitted into an adaptor to fit above No. 3 cylinder.

 

Im getting no resistance from the sensor when cold which sends the sensor straight to maximum. Basically its as if the gauge sensor wire is connected directly to earth but the sensor should give resistance when cold to limit the amount of earth the gauge gets. I'm pretty sure it is my sensor thats gone. Will pm you now

Been over a year and a half since I have updated this...

Anyone who was following this may have been award that I was doing this in my summer holidays in between Uni of which now Im in the final year of my Motorsports Engineering Masters degree.

I clearly got to the point where I had various mapping issues with the car but I did eventually get it all working and last summer I basically had it running and looking pretty good. Although I haven't really got any progress picture I have attached various ones along with a video and so on.






























The last few images were from the North Wales Colin McRae Tour and after the tour I bought some HKS coilovers that were on sale at the show. The following videos show a bit of the tour followed by a couple of videos of me and my type R buddies.

I still have a little time left in Uni yet so wont be using the car for a while but once I finish my degree and start earning some money I hope to get to a lot more shows, track days and events. Hopefully keep improving the car as well. Cheers guys,

Great thread and some great work over the years - looks mint but I bet that interior isn't kind on the eyes

 

Thanks guys, always nice to get some other peoples views on it... glad you've enjoyed the thread too. The interior isnt anywhere near as bright as it looks in the pic, its the same colour as the car and when there isnt much light on it, its not bright no where near as bad as a white one and as your only looking out the window all you can see is the flocked dash.

I started this project without a clue on what needs doing to get a car ready for track days and the main aim was to get it to a competitive level for hill climbs, originally was gonna do scooby cup but went too far with modifications.

Its now at that awkward stage of being almost ready for events but not competitive enough to have a chance. The other costs such as needing a trailer license to get about, a trailer, car to tow, ARDS test, race license etc. all preventing me getting anywhere and I have no money to even afford a track day and fuel so I guess I haven't been able to do what I would have liked with it.

Never mind its been a good learning curve and theres still time yet. I have learnt so much more in my Uni course since I started and given the chance could really improve the performance of the car especially with aero and CFD skills I've learnt.

Once you get out of Uni and start putting your skills to work you'll have the cash for all of the above, and the bonus is you won't have to pay someone to look after you hobby like plenty of people do - it's a long slog, but it's worth it
