They ignore any protests from scummy members of the public because they know they can get away with murder - so roughing up a pisshead is no problem at all.

Ian Tomlinson. He was pushed over, like kids get pushed over playing rough every day, and drunks do to one another nightly.
Sadly due to his health he later died. Directly or indirectly from the injury received from the fall.
Was wrong indeed, but I dont think the situations are comparable.

Funnily enough the pigs at the time all said he was just shoved - looks like they were a bunch of lying *****.
You believe what you want - but faced with overwhelming evidence that more happened to this poor sole than just a shove - you change your story to a hit the batton couldn't kill him.
It's not clear where he was struck but he died from a ruptured spleen (or something like that).

Im not saying what happened to the guy was right. Just that its not the same as this Notts video, far from it in fact.
It is clear from the obvious strike it was to the back of the legs though, a common place and part of training once again.
Quite what he had done remains a mystery.
The Notts guy was being an ****, put up a fight, and got one. Im expecting his full story this Sunday, only in the NOTW ! lol

I am not saying that all the police are punch up freaks Snazy, but I still think that in this particular example they were somewhat OTT, especially when they used the taser twice.

If you look at a lot of taser training, there is no guideline that says "only use once" The idea being tense all the muscles in the body, once it turns off, the body suffers temporary exhaustion, and they can cuff. Sadly it was not having the immediate desired effect, so it was used again, and punching the tops of the arms was used. Dead arm tactics really, playground stuff again.
As quite a few had said, if he had stopped fighting and put his arms down and where they wanted them, job done.

If he had a weapon in his hand then the taser would cause his grip to tighten. So the effect of trying to calm him down does not solve the problem with the weapon - hence the 'dead arm' tactics. Interestingly, CS gas has the opposite effect and causes the hand to fly open, but CS cannot be used with the taser as it causes spontaneous human combustion.
It depends what the subject has been ‘on’ that night as well. Cocktails of drink and drugs can make people extremely aggressive, strong and resilient. I weigh about 16 stone, and have been lifted clean off the ground by someone’s leg (singular) whilst 5 of us were trying to restrain him.

Taser was used 3 times, once before filming started.

As I understand it, the Taser is a replacement for firearms and is therefore less likely to lead to serious injury. However I think it can be dangerous and the use of it three times is a bit of a worry, especially when the bloke has 4 coppers on top of him. Physical restraint was fair enough, but overuse of the taser seemed too much to me.
