i e mailed rob barnes earlier with the full spec of the car and i mean everything as i really wanted to know which class i would be in for this year, i told him i had never done competetive driving but have done quite a few track days and have been taught by phil glewe for past 8 months so he had a fair view of my driving level.

well i got the e-mail back and im in club pro
iirc Flat shifting is where you don't take your foot off the throttle when changing gear...

I reckon the class is about right for the car spec and your tuition...you get to play with the big boys straight away and at least nobody can knock the class you are competing in. Good luck.

yes that is true, i did honestly think i would start in club and be moved up if necessary, bit of a shock to the system but now ive had time to digest it im really looking forward to it, just means a lot more effort on my part.

gutted i didnt get to the car today, roads are bad to the clinic as its all country roads, so soz guys no updates today ill go up as soon as its safe to do so.

i just wish a sequential setup wasnt the same price as a deposit on a house and i would look into it as then your left foot can be dedicated to braking, it just looks so much simpler than manual shifting especially when at full attack.
is the flat shift really intended for quarter mile?

Flat shifting is just as useful on track, as it saves you having to build the revs back up between changes. You need to bang it in gear as soon as you can, so takes some getting used to if that is not your usual thing.

hmmm might give it a go sounds pretty funky. do you use flat shifting for the sprint rounds?
how can people afford/justify a full sequential system

When you go through gearboxes like i did 4 years ago, and some of those gearboxes failures destroy your high spec engine build, you soon start looking at the merrits of sequentials like RCMS.

mate if there was any way, any way at all of getting my hands on 12k plus that i didnt need for anything else i would buy a full sequential system, but that day is will never come for me unfortunately. there is no cost effective system so six speed for me the thought of miss shifting and blowing something up definateley makes you want a sequential
would straight cut gears in the six speed work with an ikeya? doesnt the norris designs motor run something similar?

You'd need £36k to do it the rcms way. Sure I saw at least 2 spare gearboxes in the back of their truck at Snetterton last year.

Any more update pics?

Club Pro sounds like the sensible thing for your car and level of driving (you should be good after all that tuition )

I don't think you have to worry. You can always slow your gearchanges enough for them to be 100% reliable, which will be better than having to pull out of an event because you've revved the engine to 14000rpm.

i will just be sticking to standard six speed and shifter as you pointed out earlier zen build has to be to a budget, and unfortunately im at the upper end of it already
im off to the clinic now so there will be an update later
how much time would you save around oulton park with a sequential setup just ouy of interest?

i just thought i would have a round or two in club to get used to the traffic , pushing for lap times, and making space for laps as ive only ever done track days no competition so i was quite supprised tbh. everyone in club pro has time attacked before, or raced, ive done niether nor have i had a single second of seat time, so doing as well as i would like to doesnt look promising, as for tuition that has all been in a clio cup so i have the lines but no experience of track driving a car of similar spec to mine

right then people. got back from the clinic and i can say im really happy, the bodywork is 90% done just has to be bolted on and the rear quarters and front bumper sprayed, the rear diffuser is nearly done another week and its on with the rest all the suspension and components, get the engine in and mapped, the hard part was all the bespoke parts this kit needed to make it fit for motorsport but thankfully that is finally there, i reckon six weeks and it will be fired up. picking up a longlife electrical fire extinguisher and my harneses next week, scoobyclinic have my ap's and aim digi dash its just a case of putting the puzzle together.

here are a few pics still not a complete car but its getting there, one thing i have to say is how wide this car is now its huge i mean really wide. i dont know if these pics do it justice but its something to look at, the coilovers are wound right up if anyone wonders why it looks a bit high. steve has hollowed all the doors bar drivers door and cut every piece of unnecessary bodywork possible , he also fabricated all the inner arches as you can see in the pic with rear arch removed, he also made an air filter duct in my front light which is really cool, front splitter will be built once engine and intercooler are in. i would like to say thank you to steve for the work he has put into this stage of the build

i wouldnt worry about being in club pro mate, your car is far better spec than mine and i am probebly going to go in club pro with 450hp.

car is lookin good mate, but i think a bit more speed is needed putting it back together just so it gives you a chance to get a bit of time in the seat if you can.

have you had your ards test yet or booked it ?

good luck with it all mate and i hope it all goes smoothly

well spotted ya bugger. we used the cusco/tomei idea to base the car around so we had a starting point, now though its more like the utaka wagon so many bespoke details you have to see the car in the flesh to appreciate it fully i am having a full rear diffuser, we are also keeping the middle spoiler but i want his bonnet
costs a cool 2.5k though by the time its imported so ill just get a well vented carbon bonnet blank the old scoop off and spray blue.

ive e-mailed rob barnes about a nat b licence. i dont want to bother this year if i dont have to but i will wait for his reply, i still have cadwell and knockhill to drive yet so im hoping a nat b licence isnt necessary due to time aswell

yeah saw your car in redline when i was in the garage the other day, its looking nice
you took the easy option in the hunt for the look by the sounds of it mate yeah this kit is crazy its 13 pieces and the amount of bespoke work and cutting of the car to get this kit up to motorsport grade has been a long pricey process.
be worth it in the end though. when i put the final build pics up hopefully sometime soon ill scan in all the normal photos (non digital) of the work behind the scenes on this kit, its pretty impressive all the bespoke fixings and braketry and reworking of the arches, thats why its taken so long.
hopefully gonna make some jaws drop when its all put together
