As Iain explained it (IIRC) at 380+BHP (however achieved) the movement of cylinders on the open deck blocks causes cylinder failure. Not due to ring problems or det.
He was looking into re-enforcing the cylinder/block stiffeners for his new type 25/27 engines, but I think is now using closed deck blocks.
Mine is warrantied by Iain so I'll leave it at his 355 stage and see how the new type 25 engine progresses.

Mog, can you help with some advice please mate...how hard/soft are the AST's, was looking at these (Curtis knows his stuff) but I do not want rock hard coilovers, I use my car everyday (done 17K miles in a year). Be honest please mate, what's the ride quality like?

Also, when I had mine mapped with the Forge CAI I could have got 360+ bhp but settled back at about 350bhp. Having also had one replacement engine already (the infamous det issue), I would rather drive a 350bhp engine hard than have that little nagging worry in the back of my mind when flooring it with 370-380bhp on the standard open block/standard pistons set-up. Just a personal thing

p.s. I think we need our own little MY08/09 STI area on this forum like the IWSTI site!

More than happy with the AST set up (its my 3rd car with them on) and his steering mod. If I were you i'd speak to Litcho and get a test drive of his car with the AST and roll bars on and decide for yourself.

There's more info here Litchfield about halfway down.

Take your cheque book just in case

Drove Iains sti when he first got it and fitted the ast's was very impressed with the whole suspension setup.

In the end i opted for Bc racing coilovers for mine with 6/8kg spring rates, adjustable pillowball top mounts & adjustable 30 stage dampening to.
heres a couple pics
Old and new struts

Sits quite well now i must admit, handles like its on rails.

looking good rob.....yea i had the same problem.....it took about a week or so for the springs to set.....and rob are you still getting any understeer w/ 6k/8k spring rate? ive got 8k/8k and that keeps me glued pretty well, but i might go 10k in the rear to get a little oversteer out of it.....some of the suspension guru 8k front and 10k rear is the best setup for our cars for track.....

yeah the springs did settle quite fast tbh which was causing a few problems but got there in the end.

not getting any understeer that i have noticed, tend to get a slight amount of oversteer instead which is better, got the dampers set for everyday use on 15 clicks did have them on 20 but was a little to harsh for pot holed town centre driving I am sure i could feel a penny on the road truth be told lol.

Not sure if tyre choice has much to do with how it behaves, Iam currently running Pirreli P-ZERO Rosso's which have bloody good grip qualitys

had the geometry reset last friday to tarmac spec and handles allot better than before

Hi

Thanks for the positive comments, we do like to work on tha latest models and try and keep ahead of the game in using the car everyday and test parts on road track and the mighty 'ring.
Ecutek mapped a while ago but the feature is in the latest J-Perf mag that's just landed in our office. Andy-F doing his magic as usual..........

Following only done 100 miles or so on offer...
Zero sports intake pipe kit - £50
Zero Sports Carbon airbox intake cover - £50 (the snorkel part)
Scorpion rear box (they make them for P-drive) £350

Also
Cool action II intercooler splitters (new) - £125
K&N panel filters - £35.99
Revolution cat back systems - £449 gives the rumble but not over lowd.

If anyone is after cheap set of rims, we have the 18x8.5 ET48 Rotas in gunmetal c/w 255/35/18 Yoko S-drives up for £500 inc vat. delivery extra. But will chuck in a free alignment on our hunter machine for anyone willing to travel up and have them fitted.

Also got a brand new set of Rota's (same as demo one's) with a choice of tyre options if anyone intersted - wheels only £400

Exhaust is still Revolution (3" full decat) system but were playing around with alternative tailpipe options and i get bored very quickly - hence on my 10th scoob;-))

cant wait to see some pro shots
pictures don' t do your car justice, some of the subtle gloss black on white colour coding looks very tasty up close and doesn't show too well in the pics
also really like the oz leggera's

cheers

I'm never knocking my RC again. Its gone in to have the rattles fixed and I've got the courtesy car.

A 1.5 Impreza and its a bag of nails, its bloody awful and refuses to rev above 4K.

Another vote for blue ,with BIG gold wheels ""

red is very rare colour but would look nice with black wheels and tints

Black?

Default Gauges next

Looking at getting some gauges and this is my plan. Got most of the bits, just need the OBD wifi sender and ground pin 4 on the head unit so the display doesn't go off when driving

The RCA's are standard on the euro spec with Sat/Nav
