Default Bushes

My MOT had an advisory along the lines of "various suspension bushes are shot" - is this normal for this car with under 40k miles? I've had it since 20k miles and never tracked it, just driven it fairly quick on the road. I've also noticed the suspension squeaks a bit when going slowly over speed bumps.

It's in for its service next month at the dealer, so I might ask them to have a look. Any ideas on cost, or can I do it myself? If it's similar to replacing an ARB then I can have a go.

Depends which bushes they are saying are failing. common for the std ARB bushes to get excessive play in them, if its the front lower arms rear bushes they are starting to become perished and split on some models

Ok sounds like I need to jack it up and have a look then. Been doing a bit of searching and it looks like you need a meaty press for some of them, or just replace the entire arm. Looks like it's probably a dealer job

Rob had one fitted on his STI, I have one on my WRX.
the intercooler pipe goes straight through where your airbox was so could possibly be in the way of where your aem goes (I guess the aem goes into the wing)? I had to remove my nice tidy cosworth kits housing and adapt the filter to go just into the wing.

I also was not so happy with the pipe fit so I bought some silicone hoses and made it a bit nicer!

Induction kit before FMIC.

Old pic (its not great), and all pipes are blue now!
Cosworth filter is now in the wing!

Hi all, been away for a while, pretty much lost interest in car forums as a whole so took a break away from it. I did manage to get some stuff done on the car though.

Takata Harnesses. Always wanted a pair, got them at a relative bargain so thought why not.

My latest bit, carbon intakes from APR Performance. Bought from the U.S. as even with postage and Import Duty, cheaper than buying than buying them here. I know Chargespeed make something similar but I prefer the look of the APR version.

Thanks to IWSTI I found a handy guide for taking the bumper off. 16 trim rivets plus guide clamps on the wings to hold it on, was fiddly taking it off, was an PITA putting it back on!

The fog light covers and side vents removed and a quick clean prior to new buts going on.

About 3 hours later they were all done. The intakes weren't so much the problem, it was the CF side vents, fit like a glove on a foot. Out came the Dremel to shave away excess fibreglass on the back and many test fits later. The tape is there as the Sikaflex was still setting.

Next up is a trip upto Revolution for the wheels and tyres, Eibach lowering springs and geometry set up then the next day to AET Motorsport for Hyperflow Induction kit, full Milltek, RCM sump baffle kit and a remap.

@ Clyne,

Any reason why you are keeping your stock intake plenum and not switching over to an STI one ?
I have an 08 WRX myself and I'd love to change it over to the red STI one, but can't seem to find much comments on that.

Nice, can you let us know which Eibach lowering springs you get and how much of a drop they give. I've seen contradicting info regarding the drop as they seem to get listed showing the amount of drop on a wrx. The sti is lower as standard and supposedly doesn't drop as much overall. I would like to lower mine too, preferably about 20mm front and rear so any info would be appreciated.

What wheels you going for?

Its not as easy to change it as older models, plus I am running 405bhp with this stock one so not much point as its not restricting.

Yes found the problem now. Its where i have changed the turbo intake pipe as need a 3inch intake. The oem intake pipe is slightly longer than my 3 inch one.

So need to make a coupler sort of thing to gain abit more length. Will get a photo up ones all sorted!

Thanks again

The STI Eibach springs only have a 20/25mm drop as its already lower than the WRX as you say. A lot of the websites that sell them are lazy on how they list stuff and don't specify individual models when they should.

I'm going for 18" Rota Grid Drifts in Matt Bronze.

Nice! Put some pics up when you have got them. I'm thinking of changing my wheels but not too sure what to go for. I've got 2 sets of GT1's, gunmetal in summer and gold for my winter tyres. Quite fancy bronze...

Could do with filling the arches out a bit more too. What width tyre and offset can these hatches run without issue?

Default Rad Top Hose

Following installation of shiny new alloy rad I have a bit of an issue with the top hose fouling the plastic part of the fan cowling.

Question is, could I remove hose from radiator, trim it and refit it without having to drop the coolant?

Speak to APi, they have repaired plenty of these.
