There was an interesting article writen by Kev at scoobyclinic on modland scoobies site regarding anti lag. Put it this way. It would put me off having it. Unless you are re building after every rally.

Am I getting mixed up with anti lag and turbo timers????

anyway.. here's the thread about TT's

Hi,

yesterday someone asked the question regarding turbo timers, "are they worth having", our response copied below generated a fair few differences of opinions, whats your take on them...

Unless you are the small minority who howl up to your parking spot on full boost with anti lag blazing you do not need a turbo timer, and thats 99.99% of us.

As you approach your parking spot, be it at home or work you will seldom be driving on boost, by the time you have parked, turned off the stereo, (should you not be listening to the Subaru burble) take off your seat belt, wind up the window etc, you have already been your cars turbo timer allowing the turbo to cool and spin down as you go through the motions of this automatic run down period.

Turbo timers interfere with most alarms unless its something like a Clifford with an optional timer built in, if the timer is functioning most Subaru alarms wont allow you to arm or lock the car from your remote, so you have to wait until the timer kicks out.

If you still feel you have to do this extra RDP then you may as well just sit in the car for a few seconds or if you would prefer to waste fuel possibly bore wash the engine a few minutes, we have seen customers sit with their cars for 15 mins ticking over, yet they have just drove steadily through the “ford” , (small stream), and up our lane giving plenty of RDP without the need to sit there, engine ticking over wasting fuel etc., we do educate these customers as best we can hence this post.

Turbo timers are a complete waste of money, FACT. !!

OK M-SOC, your views please.

Cheers
Kev

Yes you are getting confused lol!

Turbo timers leave the engine running for a preset time after you get to your destination, to let the turbo cool down.

Anti lag is what rally cars have mapped into the ecu for better performance, I won't go into what it does.

Yeah, bit of a difference between antilag and turbo timers.

Turbo timers are not really necessary, I believe the general consensus is to avoid boost for the last minute of a journey.

Antilag will screw an engine, definitely not a good idea in long bursts or you will cause your engine to explode. But in short bursts it's awesome for dragstrips and quick laps.

I wouldn't recommend anyone maps antilag into a stock 2.5 engine though...

I nearly bought a Spec C off Juggers, who has just sold his R205.

Prodrive imported some Spec Cs over here and a few are knocking around on our roads but most went into motorsport afaik.

Im starting to like the idea of a Hatch STi. But wanting something that im not going to spend all my time trying to improve, like I do with every Impreza Ive owned and would ideally like to import a hatch STi next year!!

Some nice examples on here, and a set of lowering springs and some wheels transforms the look of the car, ive always had a soft spot for these hatches on these pictures!!

If you're going to import I'd go for a Spec C hatch. The difference is not as stark as it was in the newage cars and the front end of the Spec C steers with much more conviction than the regular car, plus you benefit from oil coolers and some uprated engine parts.

Is the Spec C like the hawk/blobs where there all stripped out, No ABS, missing passenger sun visor etc , as Id like the idea of spec c if I was to use it as a weekend car, but I use my cars everyday and I would like some creature comforts for the journey to work.

The thing I like the most about the hatch STi is that it blends in with normal-ish hot-hatches(kind off) and it looks a bit more grown up, along with the interior looks a lot better then previous years!!

Not in the hatch, no. It's got thinner glass and a stereo delete, things like that but it's not as raw as previous versions of the Spec C were. Some cars come with very low rent seats but others come with Recaros

IIRC the weight difference is 30Kg, where on the Hawk it was around 70Kg.

I'm not aware they made a Spec C RA version of the Hatch.
