Also is it possible to extend the studs to fit universal spacers? Or will the standard ones be ok?

The standard studs are not long enough to allow safe fitment of spacers. Studs can be changed for longer ones, fronts are dead easy, rears are a ball ache!

The best option is to buy spacers that have integral studs - this type of spacer starts from 15mm thickness and are available from various sources. CDF Racing (who are on here) do a quality version.

Morning all,

Hoping to be fitting BC BR Series coilovers to my STI hatch this weekend, I was just wondering if there's any little niggels or anything in particular to watch out for, from anyone who might have done it.

Does anyone know of a 08 STI rear bumper for sale or a good place to get one? Some **** hit my car in a car park a couple of months ago and cracked it and I thought I'd be patient and get a new one when I could afford a full car respray, but I can't wait as it's driving me mental now.
Cheers

Thanks for the help. I have sent cdf an email. Do you think 25mm would be about right all round for a hatch?

Depends what offset the wheels are to start with, ideally you'd stick at an overall ET35 to avoid rubbing issues.

Ok well they would be fitted with the standard wheels. Where is this et35 measurement taken from?

So iirc the std wheels are ET53 so a 25mm spacer will will take it down to ET28 which in my opinion will push the wheels out too far and you will have rubbing issues, you'd want a 20mm spacer max.

I think CDF now have a hatch with some spacers on so I'm sure they can advise.

I used to run ET35 on my old hatch and the fronts used to catch very slightly on the inner arch, mainly when in reverse and full lock, pic below shows the rear well and as you can see if I dropped would really catch, 4 up and on the motorway when I hit a dip it would also sometimes just catch.

Sorry Rob, I didn't explain myself too well - but I actually meant with the installation process itself! I've had D2 coilovers in the past, but had them fitted for me - I'm getting my BCs from Scoobyworld pre-set-up and installing them myself this time around and hopefully this weekend, then going to collect/have wheels mounted and alignment done the following weekend.

Ouaou, that's amazing!
No cartridges replaced and do they damp as well as when they were new?
That's new in the coilover world when the e.g. Tein and ATS need frequent rebuilds every 15-25k miles.

More Bling arrived today from The Kind Folks at Mishimoto.

After studying the cooling system on the hatch for a while on and off and coming up with a couple of solutions to the rather sh!te factory radiator.

Group N hatch rally cars utilize the hawkeye radiator unit as its core is much thicker, by some 20mm thicker.

I priced up a hawk radiator and to be honest they are a touch on the dear side for a bit of plastic and alloy..

At this point I contacted mishimoto in Delaware to strike a deal on a shiney big core unit. after 3-4 emails back and forth we agreed a price as long as I take a few pictures and make a review of the install and post on a few forums. Gladly I'll do that being a picture ***** anyhow.

so here we are..

arrived in a nice presented box

Opened up to reveal a lovely radiator and Chilly the Mishimoto mascot.

Awesome, Look at the size of that bad boy

Will be fitting it at the weekend, cars still a tad hot to do anything with after a 28mile run home from work.

Tyres coming this week Fingers crossed, I cant bloody wait.. 8)

No I can honestly state that they've never been off the car since fitting. All I have done is adjust the load on the springs once or twice in 5 years. They still Damp the same as the day they were fitted, no knocks no bangs and certainly doesn't sag, corners like its on rails.

I did toy with the idea of having them re-built at one point when I saw the springs were missing the paint. but as the old saying goes if it works don't try and mend it.
I don't know if using the car everyday has anything to do with it or not but it's never sat idle.

I set the pre-load as per the diagram in the box. fitted them to the car and adjusted the right height accordingly then set the geometry. piece of cake

Piece of advice, wurth hs2000 hinge lube spray it on the threads it will prevent them from seizing up so you can adjust them at a later date

Oh ok, cheers Rob. So all in all, pretty much a straight forward bolt-up affair then. I've actually just opted to pay the £15 fee to Scoobyworld to pre-set them up for me. I'm actually thinking of wrapping the threads in some Denso tape once I'm happy with the set-up, I know its a bit OTT and not very asthetic pleasing, mind lol. But I'll look into that spray, but I already have the tape. Rob, do you know if the rear strut's lower mounts have slotted holes for camber adjustment on the BR Series, or not?
