Going to Rockingham on Thursday to try out their wet grip facility.

Tips on technique greatfully received, je suis novice

+1 on the Zunsport grill and GTI piping. Anyone got it in black?

Default Exhaust Options

Hi Guys

Hopefully going to order a new exhaust this week as I have to have a bit more noise, was originally hoping to get a second hand prodrive box but unfortunately none have come up (if anyone has one and wants to upgrade pm me), options I'm looking at are:

Current Milltek @ £575, looks like it has a resonator in the center pie so I'm guessing it will be the quietest.

Revolution @ £499

Magnaflow @ £515

Litchfields new design Milltek (waiting for Ian to come back to me on price)

All are cat back as I don't want to head down the remap route until the warranty is up, I also want to stick with quad pipes.

Does anyone have any opions on any of the above, build quality, sound etc?

I'm looking to bring back the burble (but not overly loud) and want something that will provide good gas flow come remap time so I don't have to buy again! Tried to find sound clips on the net but all seem to be turbo back.

Any advice, opinions, sound clips welcome.

Thanks
Arron

Well found, seen a few of those in the past but you've stubled across some that I had not seen before, cheers.

To be honest Its always been between the Magnaflow and the Milltek, quite like the Magnaflow (Mrs not to keen as its a bit shiny for her) and its the cheapest, and its a bit different to what everyone else is going for, I just keep coming back to Litchfileds reputation and if a Milltek is good enough for them then perhaps I should take their lead, spoke to Ian today and he thinks its going to be about another 5 weeks before his new one is ready to be shipped out.

Also the Magnaflow has 4 x 4 inch pipes, is that a bit BIG?

decisions, decisions!!

There's always the hayward and scott type, no sideways big back box but 2 pipes from mid way from turbo, think cat back is about £600?
Not sure on 2 or 4 tailpipes but Ian there may be able to do something?

I guess the Zunsport grill is the lower one... how was the fitting?

I've got a dark grey metallic Sti and the Subaru option grill.... may be quite subtle on a dark car!

How was the fitting?

Get one then Neil? What you go for in the end?
Bottom grille is a doddle, just push fitting.

Nice one! Glad sorted in the end. I went for the prodrive option to match, well nearly, the wheels and the exhaust trims. Catch up soon.

Both grills are actually zun items, as said bottom is push fit but top is bumper off job, saying that though its easy enough to do, must say I'm really impressed with the quality of them. Check them out on ebay, cheaper than going direct.

i have the Milltek its actually pretty quiet til you hit positive boost.....and i do ask my friends if it is quiet, and they all reply the same.....sayin normal driving you still have the boxer burble and it opens up once i hit boost at the same time it doesnt sound raspy at high RPM's.....and on highway its pretty quiet and you can actually talk to your passengers.....but i do wish it was a bit louder though other than that, im pretty happy w/ it......the quality and craftsmanship is ......

and for the magnaflow, the only complaints ive seen w/ that exhaust is highway droning and the slip joints sometimes leak.....

but at the end its all personal preference of what you want and expect out of it at the end.....

Question New Milltek ?

Hey whats this new Milltek exhaust about ? What different ? and why ?

Ian @ H&S told me that all sports cat pipes need a special number on them that rates the same as the cars original (or something v similar). And come mot time without this 'mark' no one passes. Apparently a new law....

So is this the new Miltek or is it a new design / different pipes ?

Come on spill the beans...

Aaronb - What can you tell us all ?

Thanks A

I've just spotted that HT Autos now do a front lip for the 08 and will include it in their GB. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow before the GB ends.

Well after speaking with Ian its a fair bit different from the original, what I gather from my conversation today is:

1, The old system is 3" and the std is 2.5", now if you only go catback it should not really work but does, the new system gets around this somewhat and is designed to be more universal so you can start off catback and then additional parts as you go, still 3" though. Nothing wrong with original but it was always designed to be turbo back and I guess has been round for a while so time to move it on.

2, Trying to bring the price down for catback so should be cheaper than current model.

3, New enhanced tail pipe design, still quad but better somehow.

4, I believe the center resonator is also being removed so should be a little louder.

The new system is still under development and Litch need to send another car down to Milltek to finalise everything, once happy and should be within the next 2/3 weeks he is hoping to have them on the shelves in 4/5 weeks from now.

If anyone wants more detail I'm sure Ian will advise if you give him a call.

Decided tonight that that is the way I'm going to go so watch this space, once fitted I'll report back and let you know how I get on.

Cheers
Arron

I got the Revolution cat back when it first came out. Got the rumble back but wasnt overly loud. Got a bit louder as it got more miles on it. got just right when i replaced the decat pipe tho. Not too loud but you can hear it.

What sort of numbers did Mog get with std cat d/pipe, my mapper ( bragging rights - Mr. Andy Forrest, 8.87 sec 1/4 mile @ 164 mph!!! ) reckons not much over 330 with std cat, and can't get much over prodrive / PPP map with std cat, but around 380 with sports cat or decat d/pipe and CAIK.
