08/09 Hatches, Stand up and show yourselves!!!
Hi M8. Do you know of anyone in the northwest that can make a custom centre pipe to go from a sports cat to a prodrive back box. Also how easy is it to fit blue tooth. 08STI.
Mine was the Blue hatch with gold BBS wheels for a service about a month ago at your place.
cheers

As for the bluetooth, Personally I wouldnt bother with the subaru kit as it's not that reliable. You best bet is to get a Parrot CK3100 and have it hard wired into the radio loom. I do this quite allot at work as they are very very reliable bits of kit.
Hope this helps & hope the car is going well for you Rob
Hi mate, there is a place up nr us at a place called whitehaven called exhaustcraft who make custom Stainless steel exhausts.

BTW, I well recommend using the headphones. They are like sunglasses for your ears.
I got a sports cat downpipe 3" from H&S and they made me a 3" pipe ( the next one along ) that was 3" until 6" from the joint to the rear prodrive exhaust pipe and back box.
So 3" downpip and 2nd cat delete going to 2.5" std PPP rear exhaust.
09 STi 330S.
Made 370 bhp on safe mapping and 360 bhp on rollers. m So not a problem with exhaust back pressure.
A little update on my car. I am now running my hatch with approx 8% methanol with a 2nd racerom map by Martyn @ Enginetuner.

Nearly got it to 500/500, but to say im happy is a massive understatement. The car is an absolute animal now. Hitting peak boost 1.7bar at 3400rpm it would leave the cossie subaru in lag world wondering why its got such a poor turbo.
I now have 2 maps "S mode" is a vpower map and "S# mode" a methanol map. I also have auto blip on down shift which is very handy and launch control.
Thanks Martyn your a legend!
If your coming towards the end of your warranty and fancy upping the power with no extra lag. I suggest you give enginetuner a call. Get yourself forged and slap on one of these sc46 billet turbos and you will never look back.

(Hi how ya doing ?)
SO... the twin maps I understand, but the methanol map ?

1. So how do you measure exactly 8% - how do ya do it ?
2. Where do you buy methanol ? How much to 'do one tank' ?
3. Once in the tank must it be run until empty on the higher boost map, and then you refill with V max ?
4. What would happen if you ran the v max map with meths in the tank ?
5. I guess with the higher ron content - does the engine 'run better' - I mean running on meths all the time - would it shorten engine life ?
6. Any other effects apart from 'more power' ? More responsive ? Flames ?
I guess you'll be saving for some 'proper big brakes' now.... or maybe a parachute !

Those SC46 turbos certainly do what they say on the tin Jay - I'm STILL saving up for mine... hopefully not too long now.

And Martyn is quite a genius i agree - good job mate.

Go well...

1, Methanol is added in the easy following measures. Tank on VPower only, add 5 litres of meth and brim the tank. Tank running a mix, add 2.5 litres to 27.5 litres of fuel.
2, Methanol can be purchased online from Ebay sources, Jennychem will deliver it in 25 litre drums or 205 litre drums. In 205 litre drums from Jennychem it works out to around 65p a litre, so half the cost of petrol.
3, If you want to go back on to Vpower John then yes as low as you can get it before switching back.
4, Running it on the Vpower map whilst on meth is far less of an issue than the other way round.
5, Yes it certainly feels sweeter and no it wont shorten engine life.
6, Yes it is more responsive on meth and flames were spotted on the dyno whilst on the limiter
Thanks

Racerom features for you too A ?

65p a litre I paid 61p a litre for mine

Bonnymans in ayrshire Love the responsiveness of meths in mine, I run a 10% mix all the time my car loves the stuff, But be carefull with it as its a carcinogenic
as for flames well thats part of the course hahaha all four cans litt up at a time
Just need to get my **** into gear anf fit this turbo and get a frontmount 500 here I come lol all Self build
Martyn you are always lurking somewhere 'out there', and for that we are glad

So Meths is for the experts amongst us... seems a lot of bother for another 40 bhp.
So what would the power have been if on V power at 1.7bar ? Maybe 480 + ?
Or is it 'par for the course' to run meths and max boost ?
The Racerom software 'treats' I am desiring much (Go Yoda) but wait will I for my next visit with a shiny turbo please Guvnor.
And Rob... we all know you've put a lot of time and effort into making your car a really nice machine... so what turbo are you going to use ? An Andy Forrest hybrid or what ? Spill the beans mate - knowledge is power !
Thanks all

ROB - does this mean it works with the built in satnav/dvd screen or do you have to use the mini lcd parrot screen ?
Anyone else have experience withe the Subaru bluetooth kit ?
A
it basically works as a kit to interupt the audio from the headunit and you mount the parrot screen in a suitable place.
honestly the subaru kit is rubbish I've fitted countless numbers of these at work and they dont have a very good sucess rate the parrot wins hands down
I keep toying with trading it in too but I'm still unsure as I still love the car
The meths is an oxygenated fuel so technically you dont need as much boost as the fuel contains it within its properties, but you need it mapped in to work otherwise it will run lean from what I know you need to alter the afr's to compensate for this fuel along with the ignition tables, the more meths the more timing you can add which makes more power. I gained 30ft/lbs and around 30 bhp adding meths to mine, but it needed a tweek on the map anyhow for the new engine

The cooling affects of the meth help when running higher boost.

I wont bother to try and answer the questions any better than Martyn.

Some info for ya....
The car is absolutely amazing, and I imagine with your ported heads and trick up-pipe yours would be even more responsive than mine. You really dont have to worry about any extra lag whatsoever. If you compare my graph against some of the other graphs on the scoobyclinic billet turbo thread. You can see that the hatch's trick dual avcs is allowing it to spool the bigger sc46 quicker than older cars running sc36/sc40. On the road its mind blowing.
Also when you do get your car done and all mapped up. When you arrive to pick up the car, bring a spare pair of pants. Martyn is very good at showing off the new features.
Happy saving and good luck mate.
Maybe we should setup a enginetuner hatch meet one day??
cheers
jay
Speedway bikes used to run it neat. You had a huge great main jet as you can get about a teaspoon full in the combustion chamber every stroke.
The main danger was that you couldn't see it when it caught fire, so if you had a fire you never knew if you had put it out.
If it does catch fire, you can extinguish it with water
(loads of it) unlike petrol which virtually explodes if you throw water on it.

Sounds like a great idea Jay... after i get mine done.
Been reading up on the methanol - i understand you must handle with extreme caution - can cause cancer and blindness. MUST store well away from children preferably under lock and key I guess.
It has got me thinking tho...

Brilliant results Jayp !!
With all this talk of 500+, it will be interesting to see if the experts I spoke to early 2010 are correct, when they said anything over about 450 in these engines dramatically increases the chances of head gasket failure, which is why I'm staying arouind 460-480. I sincerely hope they are wrong (as I'm only at 1.3 bar and would quite like to turn it up a bit
) - but it will be interesting to see what happens.
I hope that my 14mm head studs/Cossy gaskets and Andy's build at Enginetuner will help hold it together.
I used methanol from Jennychem 2004-6 in the 425 BHP classic. Easy most of the time, as I just added a 1 gal before each tank fill up, and carried 2 x 1 gal containers in the boot. With only one map it was a pain on holiday in Scotland as I carried about 40 litres around in the car - definately not a good idea
Plus there were not many Shell stations up there !
Looking back, overall, it was probably not worth the hassle then for an extra 20-30 BHP. Easier now with switchable maps available, but still not tempted

I do as it uses less fuel than S mode according to Iain Litchfield. Currently getting about 25-27 mpg per tankfull on long trips. And that is still having fun - but mostly cruising around 80.
Still goes well on S, but not as responsive as S#

What's the trick up pipe on Apostle's car then? Harvey special???
Also Jay - you got the SC46 billet turbo, any problems to fit ( apart from the FMIC issues )? Spool upa and driveability?
Cheers
