Estimate of 365hp with standard downpipe still on car, only mods being Magnaflow center/backbox and fully-forged engine.

Interesting was that the downpipe was very restrictive and estimated knocking about 30bhp off ultimate potential if we fitted ported headers, up-pipe, induction kit and decat downpipe so circa 400bhp potential given right breathing set-up.

Did Bob think 400bhp was potentially achievable on the standard turbo then? That goes against what i have heard.... i do like the VF48 and have no plans on changing mine

yes it is capable regardless of what people say. the drawback when mine was first mapped was the fuel system. couldnt get enough in the engine

will soon tell you as mine in for a quick tweek on the vf48. then back new year with the garrett fitted, unless i decide to fit it sooner

Interesting Was it injectors or fuel pump or both that held it back?

Phil : I know a man that can port your headers and subject to examination probably make a good improvement on your uppipe and while we are at it it would be worthwhile porting the exhaust entry on your turbo.

Cheers Harvey for the offer but Andy K's got it all under control

And yes, I believe Bob did indicate that 400bhp might well be achievable on a rightly set-up VF48 (I have seen the thread on 22B.com were estimates run from 360-380's).

A combination of both If I remember correctly, we had a fuel issue couldnt get enough fuel into the engine, injectors maxxed out on the first run so had to back them back to 80% so. Ive modified the anitsurge canister and mounted a larger fuel pump & got a set of 850cc injectors coming to fit to it thats should cure it for a while

I'm really suprised you maxed the injectors - they're 600cc items so in theory should be good for about 425bhp at 100% dc. To be honest I'd go for 740's - will easily do over 500 with ease (we ran approx 580 on 740's) and allow better fuel flow control.

And yes, I'd uprate the fuel-pump if i was going anywhere near 400bhp but at 370's it's fine.

Couldnt remember rightly what Andy said but we had difficulty with the fueling side of things which ended up in the injectors being backed back off after a huge amount of backfiring haha, so I threw the old pump out and fitted a bigger one after much modification lol as for the injectors I got chance of a set of 850cc's at a reasonable price so snapped them up. if nothing else its well over spec'd The turbo is sorted and the fmic is being sorted tomorrow all being well

I do think 400 bhp is possible under the right conditions, the induction needs looking at to get there for sure.

Once I get my new engine into my Hawk then I will be definitively testing the VF43 that has with its std injectors to see if 400 van be achieved and if so how, I do believe that will involve an induction change in addition to the other normal requirements. I am not going to do that while I still have my std engine in place as thats still healthy. But the new one will see 400 as a starter for 10 and it won't be stressed at all.

Considering Phils car still has his std downpipe etc on it I was not unhappy with the way it responded so far. Its only running 1.5 bar mid range due to it still using the two port wastegate control solenoid, but thats about right on the VF48 in any case as much more is just hot air.

cheers
