Don't be so sad. If SDB has asked you to change it, then do so. Don't go opening debates about it. You haven't a leg to stand on.

Unless you've just injected a large cash sum into Scoobynet?

Cem, annoyed with all the bollox on SN these days.

I don't find it confusing - but then if you want to use a facility provided free of charge to you, you should do as the webmaster (real one! ) asks.

So "Yes".

I can see how it could be a pain really...

I'm with SDB et al on this one.

Simon spends an AWFUL lot of time maintaining the BBS, as do all the moderators. I personally thing what you are doing shows a sign of disrespect to them. If SDB sent me a mail requesting that i change my user name then that would be it as simple as that.

Si & Mods I personally appreciate the time and effort that you put into the BBS and i am sure that there are more than a few thousand other members who feel the same way as i do!

Webmaster (what ever number you wanna call yourself), you have been politley asked to change your user name. You know why, as anybody that reads this thread can understand. Your username could and STILL can be blocked, but you have been asked politely to do so by your own accord. Do yourself a favour and return the curtesy you have been shown.

Regards,
Shaun.

In no way meant to offend, but If someone came onto my website and made a name on my bulletin board as webmaster, (or webmaster 1 etc) I'd delete you straight off without a second thought.

You aren't confusing people already on the board, but for new members to scoobynet who haven't been around and used UBB before. They may see your name and think your the so call "main man" when your not.

Hi All
<Climbs on soapbox>
Well I have to agree with Cem, Shark, Richard and others that there is a lot of crap on this BBS lately and it is people like you WEBMASTER2 that are making it this way.
Rather than just change your user name why don't you **** off altogether and take all the other ar5eholes with you that do not contribute anything positive for the ScoobyNet community.
<Climbs off Soapbox>

Just how long can a thread with absolutely no useful content stay out of the Muppet Show?!

webmaster2, I really don't care what you call yourself on Scoobynet as long as SDB is happy. That's a hint

This is a private enterprise, freedom of speech does not apply here. If Simon wants you to change your name that's it. He can ban your IP address. He can ban all our IP addresses. He can stop you saying whatever you want, it's his BBS. And he can decide to stop wasting his life with the thankless task of running Scoobynet and just close it down. Where would we be then?

Why is it important? Because someone impersonating the Webmaster account might one day decide to create a new topic along the lines of "I've decided to make this a paying site, please forward me your names, credit card numbers and expiry dates".

Most people might not be fooled, but there will always be new joiners and less savvy individuals who will do it.

And don't laugh, I've seen it happen before.

Yes there is. Set up your own BBS and do whatever you like.

sheesh, I can't believe we're even entertaining the idea of this debate, much less actually having it.

Please, pretty please, with a cherry on top, mail simon and ask him to change your username. If you don't, it does sound like it will be blocked.

Or set up http://www.scoobynet2.co.uk and be your own webmaster2?

Nick.

Freedom of speech is fine, but if you went to a bar and said something you knew the owner didn't like, would you expect him to ask you to make a decision as to wether to apologise, leave or get a smack in the teeth? So far you have been offered the easy option. You do sometimes have useful contributions to make to the board, so it would be unfortunate if you got banned, but I really do think that if you continue to refuse to change it you will be quickly approaching option 2 and 3 above. I'm sure SDB would have the support of 99.9% of the members if he changed the name or banned you, but as it stands he only needs the support of himself, cos its his BBS.

Sort it out.
