One more thing off the list, got some rubber grommets from ebay to fill in some of the holes, and used the standard metal grommets (cleaned them up a bit) and glued them back into the holes... now have a water tight inside

I was thinking about taking a break from the car on Sunday, but after looking at this list again... there is sooooo much to do, so I think I'll be working on the car instead of going to the Ford meet this Sunday

Cheers Trav... as i will be watching yours also.... Trying to get my lass to let me go down to her dads tonight, but she doesn't want to... so I'll be up early morning tomorrow to get some work done... time is closing in till Japfest, and got quite a lot of things to do

Doesnt help that I keep buying things to go on... just got myself a dry cell battery and holder the other day off ebay, so now have that to add to my list (the standard wet battery is dead anyway, so needed doing)

Just trying to decide if i should mount it behind the passenger seat or to put it into the boot along with the washer bottle?

I'd put it behind the passenger seat. Look at it in three ways;

1. The lower the better. The dry celll battery still has a bit of weight in it so mounting it as low as possible would help lower the centre of gravity of the car.

2. Moreover it'll be in the centre of the car between the front and rear axel lines therefore reducing the risk of mounting it anywhere that will have it over hanging either the front the axel line (standard position) or in the boot behind the rear axel line (everyones favourite place).

3. Lastly, the left hand side of the car is slightly lighter than the right with the battery taken out so fitting the battery on the left hand side of the car will again help balance things out......... me thinks........

[Update 4/4/10]
- Fit ally door cards
- Fit dry cell battery in cabin, remove old battery and re-wire
- Fit Jamz plate
- New gearbox oil
- Fix drivers side rocker cover (stop oil leak)
I created a small distribution box for the gauges from the radio ignition power/earth, and stripped back all the old speaker cables and bits that were not needed here.

Found the problem with the fans (the battery was that dead it couldnt power them) - had the battery on charge for a bit before testing and the fans came on - You can see the battery has bugger all left in it:

Padded up the roll cage, put the passenger foot in and bolted in, so the roll cage is completely done now

Passenger seat back in the car and bolted in... so front end is pretty much back together now

Still need to remove the sound deadening from the boot, and paint it before i put the harnesses back in.

Did a bit more of the camo today while before dinner

On another note, does anyone know what the warning light on the left hand side is?:

This is just on ignition, hope it goes off when the car is started like with the other lights

Managed to get the window up (just wired the motor direct to the battery to get it up) checked everything with the multimeter, and seems there is no power going to the windows what so ever, so I've missed a plug somewhere, just need to find where it is supposed to be... anyone know where the main power comes into the windows from fuse box.. is it directly into the drivers door then from there?

its the cat over heat light the sensor is bolted in the down pipe cat if removed there is a resistor to put in the plug to stop the light coming on hope this helps good build so far looking good and your list is getting smaller

Ah cool... well the car doesn't have any CAT's and never noticed the light before... Will have to check if it goes off when I start the engine

It'll be a while yet... kinda wish i never started it... just have to keep building it up till its done like the passenger wing... Think ill just do the sides and bumpers, and leave the boot and bonnet black.

I thought great when she was doing it... but then took a closer look and none of them were straight, so took them all off and started again, so she's barred

You could fit a cutoff switch while you were doing that?

Aye that was the plan

So will go from behind the passenger seat, around to the center consol/dash to a cut off switch, then from there into the engine bay to where the standard cables are.

But im in two minds whether to put an earth all the way into engine bay, or just earth the standard wire to shell, and put the earth terminal from the new battery to a bolt (ie seatbelt bot in the rear)

Well I have to say I didnt manage to cross anything off my list this weekend... and only 3 more weeks till it has to be ready.

I did how ever start the battery relocation today.... The battery is now mounted in the boot:

Size: 274.7 KB

I have run the power cable from the under the bonnet into the cabin and down the passenger side to the boot.

I have also put a distribution box under the bonnet, this provides the power from the battery direct to the starter motor, and then across a fuse to the output to the fuse box:
Name: 8e0a2373.jpg
Views: 0
Size: 136.3 KB

I will be moving the washer bottle into the boot too (as i have mounted the distribution box where the washer bottle would usually go) - Will have to look for an uprated water pump to pump the water to the front of the car.... anyone got any ideas? - Thinking of a car that has a rear pump that would fit

I also got a quality purchase today.... its big and blue, but I will need to find another one... any guesses what it is? - Didnt take a picture of it as i was in a hurry to get home, but i will get pictures of it soon.

Alright Dave,

If you need a hand, im just down the road like

Aye Japfest is a canny drive, but its a good show, and as im the admin of SwiftOwners, I have to set up the stand and things

No work on the scooby today, as ive been working on the trailer all today... full rewire, new lights, and also started stripping everything back to paint... started at the back of the trailer, and hopefully its going to be nice again next sat to get the rest of it stripped and painted.

I did how ever get a bit done in the week (electrical stuff) just got the ground to hook up and a fuse and hopefully everything should work.

Will remember to take the camera tomorrow to get some new pictures... only 3 more weekends

Ahhh cheers mate, appreciate the offer.....i may just take you up on it

Think i better wait till you've sorted your own bits n pieces first like looks like you have a alot on....so likewise if you need owt just give me a shout. If am free..i will gladly help. Japfest is cracking like, the track is fantastic

i am gonna start stripping her (the car that is) in the garage tomorrow as she is SORN now, we have got two other cars (daily drivers) so i am in no rush..would like it all sorted in a few months but these things take time..so no rush.

Trailer eh! nice one....i want shot of my RX8 for a 4x4 next and plan to get a trailer all in good time

Dave

Im just hiring vans at the moment to trailer the car to track, but ive been keeping my eye on a few VW Transporter vans (quite fancy turning one into a camper van) would be perfect for when on track, have somewhere to chill and make some food, and will allow me to tow the car to tracks.
