Well im a bit peeved off at the moment after doing some bits to the car today.. not everything went to plan

Got the car running again, ECU and drivers seat back in place, was going to give it a wash but then realised the electric windows no longer work (one of the windows is down and cannot get it back up)

Got the car running again, and had a look undeneeth and saw oil dripping under the car - I think its from the plate that connects the oil filter to the oil cooler ive installed

Realised i had taken one set of pads out of the drivers side callipers, and had been pumping the breaks the last week to bleed them through, and tried pushing the pistons back with some flat head screwdrivers (i know i shouldn't have done that) and then there was brake fluid coming out of the callipers somewhere, so will now need to get them refurbished (I dont even know if you can get seal kits for these callipers)

So nothing has gone too well for me today, and time is closing in for the first track day... I can see myself missing the track day and down some money

Dont mean to be funny but did you slacken off the bleed nipple and the res cap when pushing the pistons back ?... makes it easyer, less damage.

I took the res cap off, but not the bleed nipple... Is it usual for brake fluid to come out of the piston?

In a word, No. New seals needed I reckon.

It was only doing it when i was forcing them back with a mahoosive flat-head screwdriver... Will take a closer look tomorrow in the light. I just hope its not the seals, i fear it will be ni-on impossible to find the seals for Girling callipers.... Was a nightmare just finding brake pads for them.

As for the oil leak, think it will have to be off with the headers and up pipe and off with the oil cooler pipes and PFTE tape them up, as i think they are leaking through the threads of the screws....

Seems like its two steps forward and one step back at the moment, just as i topped up the oil and got the brake fluid back in, will have to drain it all out again.

Will also have to get myself some host to re-connect the 3port (might have to give it a clean out first, dunno how long it hasnt been used for, but heard it buzzing away once the car was started today - Should i just use WD40 to clean it)

Think its going to be a nightmare getting the windows working again, for some reason the window wires were in the same loom as the ABS module (all earthed together) so i have a feeling that may be the problem of the windows not working.... or do you think they wont work if there are no switches connected to the rear windows? Maybe it has to have a complete circuit to work?

Could actually put windy windows in (if there is such a thing, might save a bit of weight without having a motor)

It best be running spot on once i get all this stuff fixed, there was a little bit of white smoke coming out the back when i started it up before, but I think thats coz it has not been started for a couple of months and sat in a cold garage.

Its quite off putting when things go wrong, was enjoying working on the car up till now.

My RA has wind up windows and there is a fair weight saving not sure what other models had the manual windowws but the ver 1 WRX RA certainly did.

Cheers mate, wonder what the chances are of finding the windy window mechanism then... but then again if it only came on the RA, it probably wouldnt fit as the 4 doors are smaller then the 3 doors

Got an hour on the car today, and managed to fix the oil leak (thank god) seems that i had not tightened the oil cooler sandwich plate output tight enough, so once the car pressured up was dripping oil out.

Didnt get chance to look at the brakes, but did have a bash at taking the up pipe off, and there is like no way to take it off without removing the whole sub frame of the car, or taking everything off the top of the engine.

Can't you undo the engine mounts and jack the engine up to give yourself some access to the up pipe?

Bit of an update from a really hungover Jamz

Did some more work on the car yesterday (saturday). Managed to pipe in the 3port after visiting Harvey for some vac hose (cheers Harvey)

Also had a closer look at the breaks, and seem fine now that i un-did the bleed nipple to push the pistons back (think they were leaking a little bit before as i wasnt pushing them back straight), but put the new pads in, and blead the brakes and pushed the brake pedal as hard as i could and there was no leaks.

Just need to give the calipers a bit of a clean now (trying to remove all the gash paint thats been put on them - seems to be scraping off with a chisel, any other tips?)

Also got some of the electrics sorted (still puzzled about the windows though) dash is pretty much back together now, clocks in and wired up, and just put the new swoosh gauges in, but not wired in yet.... Im thinking about making a custom distrobution box somehow to power the guages and the in car camera's that ill be in there

Got my lass working on the car now putting some digital camo on the car for me (no pictures yet though)

Sorry for the crappy pictures, forgot the camera so used me phone instead

Think i should really make a list of things still to do (as time is closing in)

- Fill holes in cabin floor
- Fit new pads on passenger side
- Create power distribution box (for internal gadgets)
- Wire in Guages
- Wire in power transformer for camera
- Finish bolting in the cage
- Fit AeroCatch
- Fit Oil Catch Can

- Fix the blowers in the car (fan doesnt seem to be working - probably not plugged in)
- Clear out car of parts
- Remove sound deadning from boot and paint
- Passenger seat in
- Fit Harnesses
- Finish Camo
- Knock dents out of the roof - fit flag on the roof (vinyl)

- Get trailer serviced

Wire brush on a drill is wonderful for removing brake caliper paint- just mask off the pistons.

Good idea, just got a new wire brush drill bit... i did smear some brake fluid over the caliper so should react hopefully and just peal off.

Done several calipers this way- works well, but need lots of paper everywhere, and VERY protective clothing- that wire stuff will eat clothes and skin for breakfast!

It dioes create a lot of dust as well, but works well, so just mask calipers up as I said. Helpful when you go to respray anyway.

Dont think i will re paint them as they are silver anyway (as you can see the colour on the bits that have chipped off)

Right another weekend and some more time on the car, but I have to say i didnt do much/anything that was on my list:

- 4 Wheel Geometry Setup
But i did manage to wrap the headers (while they are still attached to the car) - quite itchy now though

*note bottom picture shows wrapping a little messy as i ran out of one roll here and started another roll

I managed to bolt the front part of the roll cage in today, but then realised I have run out of bolts for the other side, so have just ordered some more M10x40mm bolts

I had a bash at the windows today, put the rear switches in the car, but still nothing (i am feeling a full re-wire of the window system will be calling (any one done this before?) or does anyone know someone selling windy window mechanism?

Was going to wire in the gauges but when looking at the oil pressure sending unit, it seems to be a bigger then the one I already have, so i think i'll need an adapter to fit the end of the sender unit into the hole

Erm no camo work done today, as my helper was helping her dad all day...

Will be putting the passenger side back together once I have the blowers working again (I'm hoping its just a plug not in), once ive done that, i can put the harnesses back in, but I also need to finish stripping and painting the rear bench and boot.
