Doing mine tomorrow at 9am.....

Can't think how to get the ride height sorted, other than 'trial and error' and taking the wheels on and off.....

Is there a way to set the height at a "30mm drop compared to standard"? As straight of the box, all ours could have been different couldn't they?

 

Depends on what spring rates too, you can adjust in situ, get one side right and use tape for other side. Doesn't take long.

 

I went for 5/4's on my newage.

Is it easy to adjust? My mate had the idea of doing one side 1st rather that the fronts/rears 1st.

 

I did fronts first, adjust by loosening bottom lockring and provided top 2 are locked together, you can use these to turn up or down.

 

That worked very well doing that mate!!

Finished mine today. Took a casual 5 hours, as me and my friend kept talking etc. Both fronts, and rear offside were easy, but the final one, we couldnt get the two bolts off at the bottom. tried soaking it in WD40, heating with 2 blow torches, use a 2.5m long bar, but we couldn't get them off.....so ended up grinding them off!! Luckily my friend had 2 bolts from his Impreza days, which was very lucky!!

I got 5/4 springs, and put it on the softest setting, and it was such a comfy ride!!! Obviously not good for cornering, so have them set at 10 clicks to hard front, and 8 clicks to hard rear, and it feels a lot better.

Going to get it booked in for the Geo setup very soon.

how did you go about taking the old ones off?

do you jack the car up first?
does it matter where you start, with the top nuts or at the bottom.
is there any tension still in the old spring once jacked up?

Doesn't matter where you start really. We just went round in a clockwise manner, jacking one corner at a time. Our theory was to complete one side, so we could see the ride height etc, so we could adjust it, and the set the other side exactly the same.

We disconnected the brake pipes first, then unbolted the two lower bolts from the hub, then unbolted the top 3 bolts. It was a bit difficult getting the strut away from the hub area, but a long bar sorted that out!
There is no tension really from the old struts.

You need to remove the rear seats as well.

I read this tip on here as well, but not sure where now, so will share again (not my tip by the way).

On the fronts, the two bottom bolts which attach to the hub. The top one is an eccentric, so mark it at the top, and when you put the new shock on, make sure the bolt's mark is at the top again.

 

Fitted some bc coil overs on my 06 hawke eye due to the stock rear shocks siezing up . very easy to fit and adjust. car now sitting 13.5 " front 14" rear from centre of wheel to wheel arch. only prob with them when hitting pot hole get a knock from rear, apart from that these coil overs are the dogs nuts .. very highly recomended ,, car holds corners sooooooo much better

Just finished fitting my set of bc coilovers, had a nightmare with the hub nuts/bolts but all sorted now will set the ride height tomorrow and take it for a test drive, i'll let you know how i get on...

I have posted some pics in this thread. I fitted the coilovers over the weekend and had the geometry set up today. Wow they are awesome. The car is very smooth and planted

I had my alignment done today since fitting the BC Coilovers,
I am quite proud of the fact that I put my suspension back together quite carefully and it was only very slightly out.

I had the work done at CTS Wheels & Tires in Derby next door to the Subaru agents Beechdale, who recommended them.

They were good, helpful and and quick and it only cost me £80 + VAT. The service was great - much better than the usual 'you-are-doing-us-a-favour' service one gets from the motor trade in general and the Subaru specialists in particular. I can highly recommend them and I guess a mark of their good service is that they are pretty busy.

I can scan and send or post my results if anyone is interested.

Does anyone favour alignment settings other than Stock?

If so, why? What would the benefit be.

I ask because the guy at CTS Wheels & Tires said "Often the Scooby guys have their own special settings - are there any settings you want me to put in?"

1.5 degrees all round with zero toe, easy.

 

fitted my bc coilovers yesterday, pretty straight forward if you can get the bolts undone at the bottom of the strut.

from reading this thread and others, i wound the coilover up 15 turns to equal 30mm drop, which didnt go to plan as the car was so low that i couldnt move the wheel round on full lock without rubbing the arches, so ive wound them back up, and its better, but need to go some more.

The advice was to add 15 turns to raise the car 30mm, not lower it

ive got the front 13.25" from the wheel center to the wheel arch and the rears are 13.75" does that sound about right? obviously on a classic.

first time round i mustve had it lowered 90mm. do'h

Went out with Gary Moulson at Brands on Friday. He is running (classic) BC's and they felt fantastic. I think it was 15 front 16 rear, so solid and total control, I was very impressed.

Sorry, I have just seen your message and it is night so these are not very good - I will try and take some more. These don't really do justice.

I did a 350 mile run on Saturday mostly on motorways at naughty speeds thanks to my Road Angel and the BC's are fantastic.

 

I should tell you my measurements:
Spec: Front 386, Rear 363 mm

Stock: Fr 385, Rr 350 mm - this is what my car was before fitting the BC's.

BC's Fr 370, Rr 355 mm - this is what I set the BC's to.

Brett Midleton suggests the Impreza is best left as close to the specification heights as possible,

 

I read that 14" front and 13.5 rear is ideal, if the lower arms on the front suspension are level then you are too low.
