Rally Championship was great!

Yes, I agree. But the guys who did it are now making the 'Motorstorm' games(which I like).

As for the op, I am very disappointed with GT5p from a driving physics point of view (the graphics are top notch). It feels to me that they haven't got the inertia of the cars right.
Forza2 is far better in this respect, the cars have a feeling of mass to them in the way they loose traction and start to slide. Looking forward to Forza3 with updated graphics and more tracks.

Didn't Sony chose not to renew the WRC licence ? Plus, as has been mentioned, Evolution the developers behind WRC are doing the Motor Storm games. Shame really as they clearly have the engine there to adopt to another WRC game.

I'd guess a game based solely on rallying as WRC and McRae were, wouldn't shift many units these days - perhaps this is why Codemasters chose to do something like 'Dirt' which not only offers rallying, but other disciplines too.

It is just another arcade racer. It's not bad, but is not particularly impressive, and has dated badly (I find it gets monotonous after a while). Not tried the sequel yet though. That might be better....

I loved the first one - I play it on a 68" screen and it's looks amazing, especially when you're inches from dropping off the side of a mountain

Recently got the second one and I find I keep losing the track in all the foliage they've added.

Incidentally, here's the latest vid for FUEL - codemasters next game, boasting the biggest playfield in a driving game.

Lol - It's not bad I suppose for an old game, but it has been surpassed. To be honest I found Grid (and even GT5P) to be far more enjoyable. If you can get it very cheaply it might be worth a punt I suppose.

I can totally understand why someone wouldn't like it - it's a pretty shallow, combat-style racing game, but it cracks along at a solid frame rate, has nice visuals and when you put the driver's viewpoint on and play it on a big screen, the sense of vertigo is great fun, hurtling off the sides of mountains, etc...

Don't get me wrong, I love GT5P (and all from GT1) I am online most nights racing (with my G25 wheel with 900 degree turn, 3 pedals incl clutch and full h pattern box with 1st, 2nd etc) and often post on GT Planet, and can't wait for GT5, BUT I think Polyphony Digital (the makers) have lost the plot some what. How can a game cost so much, and take so long to make, and they get the basic online play so wrong it hurts.

PD have clearly said that its a simulation, but they have spent far to much time on the graphics presentation which are obviously amazing and the best around on any format, but they don't make a perfect game. They also expect people to wait, wait and wait a bit more while their game keeps on getting delayed. Current time scale for the proper GT5 is by Chistmas 2009, so that will be some time in 2010 then!!!

I really hope someone realises a PS3 driving simulation that makes PD really think about hurrying up their release dates! I love Ferrari Challenge (more of a racing sim than the arcady Grid which I also have) and their new game could just do this. .....the makers admit that concentrating on just one Ferrari make didn't get the interest they wanted, so they are now making "Supercars" that will have even better physics than FC but obviously all Supercars with loads of updates.

Anyway back to GT5P. PD have amended the physics a few times, the current update, Spec3 is pretty good, but they should of added basic things on this test "demo" update that make it far better as a game online, things that you often see on other games that arn't difficult to do!!!

I personal think the guys at PD don't know how to do this, or basically haven't got a clue about On-line racing and what people want, its certainly a lot more than just flashy looking cars...they need to add...

- private racing with full control over host settings (eg setting sim tyres, no assists etc like FC)
- ability to chat while racing (grid, FC, motorstorm all have this)
- swapping over the host if the host leaves (like F1 Championship)
- Showing the fastest current lap (from all users) durring a race, and everyones fastest laps after a race (like F1 again).
- decent baking zones option for beginers (like FC)
- own music while your racing if you want (like motorstorm, fc)
- running time difference between you and car in front on screen (like fc)
- damage that effects the way the car drives after so you don't shut people all the time (like Grid).

Shouldn't they add all this to the prologue verions to test them all???

Anyway, its still an awesome game, of course we all want more cars and course on prologue, but it could be so much better without too effort. PD need sorting out!!

They're still recording their engine sounds in neutral, car not moving = boring sounds. Of course, most of the sounds go back to the original GT on the PS. We've just done a weekend recording in the US for some decent engine sounds for DiRT2, plus the new transmission, turbo and supercharger recordings

As for why anyone would want to hear music when they're playing a racing game, I personally can't stand it. Need to hear the engine for gear shifting.

Rallysport Challenge 2 was great fun. Forza 2 is my sim driving game of choice, but Race 09 is out on 360 next month - really looking forward to that.

I didnt like GT5 on first play but the more I get into it the more I like it. Once youve tinkered around and setup your car to your driving style it gets a lot better.

As for you additions above - the biggest let down is the penalty system in the fact it about as consistent as premiership refereeing. You can be ahead and someone rams you into the armco and you get a ramming penalty and they get nothing.

You can go too far over the rumble strips as pushed (rammed) wide and get a penalty or follow someone else and get a time penalty whilst again they get nothing.

And some cars seem far far superior. I only really use the Ferrari California or Clio V6 these days.
