GT5 - I don't get it...
Borrowed a copy today and after the 35 minute install I just don't get it.
All the cut scenes, tracks and cars are rendered lovely but as for actual races, it's just poop.
The cars look as though they are just sitting on top of the track like a 1960's simulator with a rolling paper background.
There's no sense of speed at all.
Tried a few controller settings and just didn't feel I was at all involved.
Grid kicks it's ***, I can't see where the good ratings come from. Even GTi Club is more engaging.
I'm glad I didn't buy it and the full thing will have to be vastly superior to even be considered.

It's certainly very pretty, but there's not much of a game there, and I agree that the feeling of involvement is definitely lacking. A poor effort imo...

Well I love it and think it's superb. As for Grid sounds you like arcade racing then as that is exactly what Grid is. Another one wondering what you were looking at as GT5 is graphically the best out there in my opinion with Forza 2 a very close 2nd.

Where did I say they do? I said I thought the game was/is superb. I then said graphically the game is the best out there as the user had said graphically it was poor

Spectrum was going on about the presentation. I personally think that is secondary to the gameplay, of which (imo) there is very little in gt5
As for the GT5 graphics, they are very polished. However, I find the cars tend to look too clean (almost as if they are made of plastic), and at times they do look as though the are floating above the road rather than being connected to it.

Grid is way more involving and IMHO better looking as a package regardless of where on your snobbery ladder it sits.

And as for the snobbery not at all, I just don't like arcade racing as i'm no good at them
I used to really like the driving games Codemasters did with the original Colin McRae series but can't stand anything they have done in the last few years.

i thought the graphics in grid looked quite well to be honest, not played gt5 yet, but played gt4 to death, still have it in the office at work for rainy days when i have nothing to do, but i suspect gran turismos time is over, when it first came out (gt1) it was like nothing i had ever seen (still have a copy for the ps1 somewhere) i was amazed, it brought something new to the race fans, but nowadays, everybody is in on the "arcade/sim" action.

I used to love the CMR series.
Had every version on PC up to 04 and multiple copies of a couple of them but got Dirt last week and just didn't float my boat (15 quid to anyone that wants it).
I've also had most of the Toca/Racedriver series that codemasters have done including the first one that had Plato in a laguna and I think they have stood the test of time.
Burnout is currently getting hammered but think I'll be done with that (apart from online) in a week or so.

Why? GT4 wasn't any better than GT4 Prologue. The gameplay/feel/graphics etc was the same, it just had more stuff in it. Everything I've been reading about the full version of GT5 suggests the same thing will happen there.

I really enjoyed the original on PS, it was something new, but even then, you could tell that without any knowledge of how to set cars up, if you deviated much from the standard settings, the cars became undriveable.
Add no damage and I think GT has been a very poor series overall. The rallying on it was woeful too.
Even when they add damage, I won't be buying it.

GT5 lacks physics imo, GT on the PS2 had the same problem and with 5 it shows there are far superior games out there in terms of realism and feedback (and also highlighting the fact that game players are more experienced and know what they want).
It shows off the PS3 very well but for me does not offer a true sense of driving or the adreniline rush you get in other titles

Grid yes abit of bored of that as well now but it has provided hours and hours of fun, o and a few hours of frustration getting punted off at the first corner when playing online.

There was a rally game quite a while back amazing graphics and so realistic with the accidents, time consumation fixing things, money etc. Can't for life of me remember the title? In a red box it came....gonna bug me now and will probably have to phone the parents to search my old room, lol

Rally Championship 2000?
Had an OS map in the bottom corner. Stages were 13-15 minutes long. Absolutley brilliant game. Writen by Milestone I think. Is a real shame they haven't done an update.
RC 2000 + Richard Burns Rally + modern graphics = Heaven
