It is a personal thing really,

i will get a tram stop that will link me to Didsbury and town.
so i expect to be going out a lot more in didsbury and town.

it wont effect me but will the bloke sitting next to me,.
he comes out of the centre and go's back in it at night.
its going to cost him £15 extra to get to work.

the buses are very good anyway for me, the bus to town is every 10 minutes.

one thing though, the south manchester spur, should have gone to the airport, roundthorn ind est, wythenshawe, sharston ind est and then into town.

There is no way we will get the things promised. Wheres the revenue from Road Tax and speed cameras? Its not gone on fixing roads, you want to see the state of the roads round here!

Voted no myself. I dont trust this shower of s**t with anything.

i can see it now, vote yes and businesses will suffer, proposals will get put back and as sure as night follows day - the charges will get put up.

it will be run by beaurecratic f**kwits who will be milking the system earning hundreds of thousands from this yet the bloke in the street will have to pay up to 1200 quid more per year.

No doubt the car hating tree swinging big fat lesbians of Manchester will be the most vocal with regards to the yes vote!

njkmrs,

did your pack contain a promotional leaflet??

It seems that the "Yes" campaign are stooping as low as offering assistance on how to complete the voting form!!!!

Er, isn't that classified as vote rigging??

Please tell all of your friends about this scam, and tell them to tell their friends etc. etc. etc.

Oh, and unfortunately i don't live in Manchester, but if i did, i am sure that i would get an urge to call the "helpline" and ask loads of questions in a very slow an deliberate way and waste an awful lot of time and then politely say "thanks for that, you and your sneaky ways have convinced me to vote NO". Oh, and i would tell all of my friends, etc. etc. etc.

Oh, and to add to the attempted lies and bias, this prime-time TV ad has been pulled after complaints were made to the broadcasting watchdog Ofcom.

It was funded by the Department for Transport on behalf of the Greater Manchester Passenger Executive (GMPTE) and cost £230,000 to make and broadcast.

That means that motorists and taxpayers throughout the country are paying for propaganda to attempt to force the congestion charge on unwilling motorists!!

You couldn't make it up

Its just a rip off mainly because for the last 10 years they have been promising better services and they have not arisen.
Once when I was young (a long time ago ) we had a great bus service, then some government privatised it and it became crap
We started to build a ring road, 15 years later it was still only partially finished, took another 5 years to complete it because the government at the time wanted to spend the money on the M25
IF they send me a package, I will be voting no (im on the border now but use to live right by where they want the conjestion zone) because all it will do is expand, just like they have done to london.....

I don't go to Manchester very often, but I reckon if they bombed Stockport it would halve my journey time.

You definitely need to vote FOR this.

The benefits will soon become apparent just like in London.

Once you have become used to the benefits the price will need to go up further so you can feel further benefits.

The more you pay the more you'll feel even more benefits.

It'll just be like the good old days in Russia where the politicians had chauffeur driven transport in limousines whilst the plebs looked on in wonder and one day hoped to buy a Lada.

Come on your politicians are worth it..........

Will it be like the London charge? As in all the utility companies will be banned from digging up roads for the 1st few months of it's operation, making them do loads more (increase congestion) in the lead up to it?

Makes you wonder if they'll fiddle with the traffic light sequencing as well, both before and after the start date.....

Although in fairness, that's a good data gathering exercise that will come in handy when they want to increase the charge.

I feel sorry for the people of Manchester. You, like us, will soon be paying to sit in the same traffic jams you do now.

It's a bit of a strange one in my opinion; Manchester is in dire need of public transport improvements and if it wants to reaffirm its percieved "second city" status then it needs to at least attempt to mimic the efficiency or at least the coverage of the London public transport system.

Personally, I think the people who are marketing the yes vote are taking the wrong angle, I live in the city centre and congestion is minimal, everyone who I speak to feels the same too. They don't see a congestion problem, so don't see a need to vote yes. If they took the line that they were going to improve Manchester's transport connections and public facilities without even mentioning a congestion problem, then I think there would be more support. Whereas their current strategy even annoys the people I know who only use public transport as they too can see that congestion in the city centre is not really a problem.

If there is congestion in Manchester, then it's in the satellite towns like Altrincham, Timperley, Sale and over Stockport way.

I've not made up my mind yet, I think Manchester needs to do something on the public transport front, but I don't like being held to ransom to vote yes by Geoff Hoon.

Despite my feelings that I think it will widen Manchester's horizons, turning some depressed areas into places that will have business and property booms, I also think there are a lot of people who will suffer if it is introduced.

Living in the city centre, it really doesn't affect me that much, but my parents who live in Romiley will be punsihed heavily. My Dad is a plasterer who has to cross the M60 boundary every day to work in his most popular area, so he will end up passing the CC cost onto his customers. And my Mum works in Ashton, which means she will have to cross the boundary too. She only earns a tiny wage so it will hit her hard as there is no viable alternative to driving even if the proposed improvements are made. It takes her 30 minutes to drive from Romiley to Ashton by car, but by bus it takes almost an hour and a half. Although they say they will increase the frequency, the actual journey time won't change. So she has the option of paying out something like 5-10% of her annual salary on congestion charges or add an hour to her journey to work. In those situations, I can't support it at all.

If you live in Ashton, Stalybridge, Oldham, Failsworth and surrounding areas though, you'll benefit massively from the new Metrolink line.

It's a very hard one to call!

I live in Derbyshire... Just..

All my family live within the congestion zone, and of course if i want to go into Manchester i will be charged.

Houses/businesses in Droylsden,Audenshaw have been bought 10yrs+ ago in prep for the Metrolink which is going to go straight up the middle of Ashton new rd..
This will only cause congestion.. Ashton to Droylsden is a 10 minute trip in a car..Ashton to Manchester 20 mins..
Public transport will just not match this,so people will take the cars. It may get to the point where the trams congest the roads that badly that it may just not be viable to use your car..

At the moment it would take 4 buses for my parents to get to my house..That is only 11 miles away. This takes nearly 2 hours.
Or 30 mins in the car.
Under current proposals the metrolink will cut this to one tram and 2 buses and will cut 20 mins off the journey. But the will have to walk approx a mile between stops...Which is great when there both over 75 yrs of age.

It will work for some people, but for most it will just be an inconvenience..

The CC is just another way to get £££ out of you..
I dont have a pack yet,not sure if i will actually get one.But everyone i know, without exception has voted against the CC..

I would bet it will still go through tho..

Correct.

I won't drive into the congestion zone, but I've voted NO because at the end of the day, it's wrong.

Why should motorists subsidise public transport that they're not using?

I guarantee the majority of the money won't be spent on public transport anyway, because NONE of it is public anymore, they're just private firms making a profit!

I used to work in Cheetham Hill (to all you non-mancs it's about 10 miles away from me) and cost me £4 a day, it took 2xbuses and over an hour ;-( OR go in my car and it took 25 minutes and probably £3 in petrol MAX return. I worked until 8 at night twice a week, and I was lucky to be home by ten on the rare occasions I had to use the bus (say if the car was in for service/MOT etc.)

I live in Oldham and they've promised us a metrolink for over 10 years, and every time it's been a carrot on a stick. Surely the company who run Metrolink should be paying for it, not us? Aren't metrolink the ones who'll see the money from fares?

In all seriousness though, im sure a bit of good comes from CZ's but as a motorist im yet to see one.
Standing up against it is the right thing to do, as long as you do not build yourself up to believe it will not happen if enough people say no. Its planned, designed, and probably already paid for somehow.

The worry I would have in mind it, once its there, will it spread, like London's did. And was planned to spread further.

Thousands suffer in London also like someone above, by having to pay to leave the zone against the flow. Lets see how long before they try and make that emissions based too.

it'll end up like the Dartford tunnel - i.e. a charge in perpetuity (with an evironmental excuse and pretence it's for transport, like all road taxes).

One thing that I find really annoying about this whole saga is I live in Astley and would be massively affected by this however all we are so called getting is a guided bus way direct from Leigh to Manchester following the old train lines, this is a big selling point in the TIF bid and all the propaganda but now where does it say the truth that THIS GUIDED BUS WAY IS A SEVEN YEAR OLD PROJECT THAT GOT FULL FUNDING OVER 5 YEARS AGO and for some reason kept being put on hold, NOW THEY ARE TELLING US IF WE VOTE YES WE WILL GET THE GUIDED BUS WAY THAT WE WERE ALREADY GETTING WHICH WAS ALWAYS FUNDED AND WE SHOULD BE PLEASED WITH THAT!!!!!!!

I WISH THOSE STUPID ADVERTISING BOARDS SHOWED THE TRUTH LIKE FACTS LIKE THIS.

I HONESTLY THINK PEOPLE NEED TO REFUSE TO PAY IF IT’S BROUGHT IN AND STRIKE AND ROAD BLOCK AND STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS!

[QUOTE=boomer;8303602]njkmrs,

did your pack contain a promotional leaflet??

Yes it did contain the help line leaflet .

I went round and helped my mother fill hers in also to make sure there was no mistake .They can stick their help .!!!

I did actually write a message (not on the voting card ) on the signature card part ,telling them not to try and bribe me with better Transport ,when they should have been doing "Better Transport " for the last ten years .

I dont know anybody who has said they are voting Yes .

I don't live in Manchester or visit there really, however i'll be very concerned if it does come in because sure as night follows day Leeds city council will be watching very closely and would soon try and follow suit.
This is bad news for everyone if it goes ahead
