why do you need wi-fi when you have the vodafone network with download speeds of 7.2mbps?
i have wi-fi on the bold, i've tried it at home, and tbh theres not much difference in speed between using vodafone or using wi-fi

I think it depends on the details of the contract really. I'm on Voda anyway with my N95. I find the WiFi REALLY useful. Not just at home but work, as we've got a general access wifi cloud.

BUT I'm guessing at what you're saying, this defeats the object of the Blackberry......

It certainly is tempting, as the iphone wont be out on Voda.

And as you say, if the voda network is so quick, why would you need wifi? You can access all the speed anywhere at anytime. Something Wifi lacks.....

You need wifi to easily connect both your phone and other devices to the same network. A nice easy example is the remote control for iTunes, a cracking iPhone application that wouldn't be possible without wifi. Of course if the Blackberry is purely for business calls, email and web browsing then fine... but that's not how it's advertised or expected to work anymore.

Havent used wifi at all on our 8120's, 8820's or bolds and I dont think anyone has. On reading most blackberry users complained that they took the wifi route instead of 3G.

Totally incorrect actually, you cannot gain all the speed anywhere at anytime, it depends on distance, ammount of users and location, ie in a rural enviroment you wont have 3g as its not cost effective, its only really cost effective in large, built up area's, this is where wifi has an advantage, its cheaper to put out in rural locations, so not having wifi on a modern device is a bit of a sure way of shooting yourself in the foot

That's what I was (failing) to get at - I've never been a fan of al this 3G data rates etc. Really doubt that the voda network is THAT quick
I'm a much bigger fan of Wifi.....

Certainly makes me think twice about getting one (really!)
But not enough to pay £30/40 per month for an Iphone.....
Shame they don't do Iphone on Voda
