DIY 550bhp 2.5 STI V3 Type R
My mate had a Delta HF Turbo ie (don't laugh; I also had an Integrale Evo I at the time - we were into 'em lol)...
He dropped a load of oil at some traffic lights in his home town. He parked it up round the corner in a pharmacy's car park. Whilst he was waiting for his dad to turn up in his car with a towrope, he was most amused watching all the cars slip-sliding on the oil and the engine revs momentarily rising. Was like something out of the Carry On... films.
Wish I'd have witnessed that; it would have made me snigger and stuff.

Proper brown trouser moment in it last night.
My sump plug decided to depart from the sump 150yds from home.
Miraculously my engine has survived but the sump was bone dry.
Replaced sump plug, filled with oil expecting the worst. I got 7bar of oil pressure and no rattles. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The motor would still have had residual oil/oil film 'twixt the bearings'/journals' surfaces - it doesn't just suddenly disappear, despite the total loss of oil from the sump . So if not driven very far/for a short time and at very low rpms/loads, then not necessarily.
It IS possible to get lucky in the above scenario.

Well I've give it a fairly hard time tonight and all seems well.
Very lucky escape!!!
Frayz, I'm fitting the RCM track attack catch can kit at the weekend which utilises the sump plug as its return location. Rest assured it will be done properly.

You said here was a problem with an AVCS solenoid leaking didn't you?
Provided you sorted that, swap the solenoids around and then log again
By the way, the log is from 2 days ago, have you tried logging a more recent drive?

thats on idle so is the natural position it is reporting which should read 0 as vvt is off on idle (unless set otherwise).. if you alter the vvt rpm lower so on idle it is working it will adjust and try and keep it at 0, but imho the current glitches on vvt1 are a reading issue do to trigger points needing adjusting

Morrettes are back on. I didn't appreciate how much better they are than the standard lights.
I've also forgotten how nice the uk 5 speed ratios are. So much so I think I'm going to take a punt on a built 5 speed

I had a full day on it on Saturday. RCM Oil Cooler kit fitted, RCM Track Attack with Return to sump fitted. Gauges plumbed in and working and had a new intercooler pipe made up. I got rid of a leaking VTA dump valve and the car feels exceptionally quick considering its only running 1 bar. It happily saw off a supercharged XKR on the way home and I'm amazed that the 5 speed box seems to be holding up so far.
Power wise its looking to be quite good, comparing it to the last engine which was dynod at 354bhp at 0.5bar and no timing and no AVCS when first mapped for running in.
I'm currently running at 1bar with the 600bhp map that Simon did last year. I'm estimating that this is roughly 400bhp at the moment. I cannot wait to get it mapped properly and run 2bar with Meth again on a decent gearbox. At the moment it feels very quick at 1 bar. I'll have to get the speedo attached so I can start some logging on the ECU. It's all beginning to look rather promising
I have to say thanks to my m,ate Ryan who lent me the usde of his workshop and two poster ramp. That was such a lkuxury compared to working in the wind and rain on axle stands.
I think If I ever do another build I will have to rent a unit for a few months.

Check you haven't put a restricted banjo bolt in! but also look for other problems, and be aware the pulleys get stuck, especially if the engines been apart. Latch angles are out but I don't think it's the problem that's causing no AVCS advance on VVTin1, as the end value is consistent.

**** sorry daz I thought it was a log of it idling. Dunno why as can clearly see rpm.
Unplug each solenoid in turn to find which has the issue.
Does the faulty side change with it unplugged?
Check the electrical plug as they are very fragile, had to replace one on my own car, 140+vat iirc!!!
If you open scal and go into vvt you will see the positions on the right.
Ring me if you get stuck.

Yup, not unexpected though it was a UK 5 Speed afterall.
That's it for the car for the winter though because I simply can't afford a six speed box at the moment. Game over for the forseeable

Second gear exploded.
As much as I like the five speed ratios I just don't trust they are strong enough.
I'm not going to pay out more than a six speed would cost on something that may or may not cope with the power.
The plus side is the engine is mint and doesnt use a drop of oil

Haha. Good luck with that! Few kits on ebay for sensible money, DCCD box, diff, prop etc for £2,700ish. Scoobyspares got some. Rarely see them too much cheaper. Been looking for a while for mine.
