I've not looked properly at this yet but I'm fairly certain it feels a bit laggier. I'd say it's around 500 -800 rpm slower to spool

Most definately Arf and I dont plan on coming second again like I did on my one and only visit there I did a 10.9 and which was FTD right until a 2.3 5 pot GT35R fed Mk3 Golf did a 10.7 on the last run of the day. I was gutted

Mind you it was my first ever go at it in the dry so to crack a 10 on my first real go at it I was pretty happy

Are the BR's the cheapest (c.£699) with metal Pillowballs at the front, and rubber mounts on the rear?

And the RM's the dearer ones - c.£899 or whatever - with Pillowballs all round?

Drove to work in it for the first time ever today. That caused a stir especially as half of the factory lads were at the butty van getting their breakfast when i ripped past them this morning

A couple of minor issues, My alternator is barely charging the battery so that needs to be changed. The crystal lights are nothing short of garbage compared to the morretes that I had. So they are getting swapped back. Most annoying of all though is that one of my AVCS solenoids is leaking oil and dripping onto the headers.

The weather up here is fooking awful though and I've had my fill of working on it in the cold and rain.

Will spend some time on it at the weekend and get all the niggles ironed out.

It's bloody good to have it back working again though.

Daz, i know youve only just got going on the rotated kit. but having had the front mount turbo and ditched it for rotated can you the sort of tell me ups and downs of each kit? why you changed etc, do you wish youd just gone rotated in the first place?

drop us a pm if ya like

On a Garrett GT35R I honestly don't think the sheer volume of work involved is worth it.
I won't know for sure until I give it a foot full at 2bar (which I wont do on this gearbox) but the car feels as good as it ever did on the front mount setup. It's a little lagier when driving steady but I don't think it will make a jot of difference when i'm driving it hard.

Having done both I'll be honest and say the RCM kit is the way to go. It's a **** load less work and its tried tested and proven. I'm very happy with and dont regret changing back to rotated.

Was it originally a Billet 35R? Or have you taken the opportunity to jump on the band wagon?

It's always been one. I did have an original 35R but I sold it long before the car was originally finished.

All my dyno's and 1/4 times have been on the billet 35R

Forgive me for asking as i'm not trying to offend at all, but what are you looking to gain from going from front mount to rotated?

Not looking to gain anything. Infact I was worried about losing spool if anything.

My reasoning for going from front mount to rotated is simple. The front mount setup was too hardcore for a road use, it was too loud and just way too OTT for a daily driver .

I've had a rotated set up before and I knew what to expect and made the decision to revert back.

Proper brown trouser moment in it last night.

My sump plug decided to depart from the sump 150yds from home.

Miraculously my engine has survived but the sump was bone dry.

Replaced sump plug, filled with oil expecting the worst. I got 7bar of oil pressure and no rattles. Phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you've had a lucky escape there Daz. Just hope the big ends didn't run without oil at all as it could present a problem further down the line

But here's hoping

I took it for a good long drive last night afterwards very gingerly at first. Building up to nailing it to the point an intercooler hose blew off.

The worst thing is I proper remember nipping the sump plug up tight when i first built the engine. So I'm paranoid about my neighbours now

I live in quite a posh new little cul de sac in a small village in the north lincs countryside. I've no doubt brought the tone of the neighborhood down by having a car in bits on the driveway. Perhaps I've upset someone lol. I can't think of any other reason for it to come undone

Thing is there'd be no logic in that; the idea being that they're trying to knacker the motor.

That would just lead to more 'bits' on the driveway, for more EVEN MORE weeks/months - thus defeating the object LOL

Dropping that amount of oil out on the road i have visions of the RSPCA out with detergent washing down the local wildlife, if it was the summer it would be bikes lying everywhere.
At least it seems ok Daz.

There's a very distinct line of oil from about 150 yds down the road leading to my driveway.
I phoned the council to be on the safe side. I havent heard anything back from them yet.
