DIY 550bhp 2.5 STI V3 Type R
Haven't spent much time on it today but I managed to get two jobs done.
Starter motor main feed needed sorting because after the battery relocation was done the OEM lead wasnt long enough so that got addressed today.
Also, my -10 swept 180 degree fittings finally turned up today so I could finally cross the oil cooler off this list of things to do. An hour or so tonight saw it finally finished.

Will be filling the gearbox and diff with oil tomorrow so I can tow the car down to Ryan's who's doing the intercooler pipework for me.

Well then mapping is provisionally booked for the 28th but that leaves things a bit tight to get it run in and mapped for Scooby shoot out.
I've been offered a mapping slot on Wednesday but I'll need to trailer the car down to Surrey Rolling road. I've got a trailer but no way of towing it.
So if anyone knows of anyone that will tow it down for me for payment of course then give me a shout

Depending on how tomorrow unfolds it might not need to. However if things dont take place tomorrow it will need to go from Doncaster to Surrey.
However, there's an outside chance that it may be getting mapped tomorrow night at mine. I've a sh*t load to do before that can happen so its going to be a completely manic 24 hours. As Simon neatly put it earlier we're going to play a game of if and but roulette

Well we lost the game of if and but roullete.
There was just too much to do. Simon, bless his little cotton socks got here at just gone midnight. It shortly dawned on us both just how much wiring their was left to do.
We were just discussing whether we should spend a good portion of the night doing it when the decision was made for us. The heavens opened and that was that. Mapping postponed until Tuesday probably.
Anyway it was the right decision as it gave me time to properly do the things I had rushed.
Here's some pics of the last 24 hours progress:
Spent some more time on it this morning. Sorted out all the things that I rushed yesterday. So I now have one completely finished engine bay bar the wiring.

OK then now the brake vacuum pipe has been sorted (thanks Paul). I can quickly describe todays events.
Filled the car with fluids this morning with a view to cranking it to build some oil pressure.
I turned the key and was confronted by a plume of smoke at the front of the engine bay. It took me a litte while to work out where it was coming from. Bizarrely it was the braided take off from the turbo compressor housing for the boost control solenoid. The solenoid isnt yet wired up yet whenever I turned the key to crank the engine that braided line began to smoke as it was tie wrapped to the body work.
So I snipped the tie wraps and let the braided pipe hang free of the body work. Turned the key and hey presto no smoke. However the engine was struggling to turn over. By this time Clive had turned up and we started bouncing ideas around. We swapped starter motors and although this improved things there was obviously something still amiss. I had a feeling that the two batteries I had were goosed. So I took a trip to Halford complete with the Halfords battery I've had for about 4 years and managed to blag them into replacing it free of charge. Saved me £90
Whilst I was there I also bought an earth strap as the strap from the starter motor bolt was missing after I did the battery relocation. I thought this might be the source of my wiring issues. So took a punt and parted with £3
Anyway I got home, fitted the earth strap and then fitted the new battery. The engine cranked perfectly so that was good as I had loads of what ifs beginining to circle round my head.
Finally I put my theory to test and tie wrapped the boost solenoid feed back to the body work. Turned the key cranked the engine, No smoke. sorted.
Bizzare how not having that earth strap caused the braided line to arc but it's sorted now.
So with all those niggles resolved I started to crank the engine to build oil pressure. Anyway after a good few goes oil pressure gauge was showing 5 bar on cranking. Happy with that.
Tomorrow will see me sorting the fuel stuff in the boot.
Happy chappy tonight.

Another job crossed off the list ready for mapping tomorrow.
The exhaust Exit needed tidying up. So I made something to do the job.

Reminds me of a car security system sometimes used out in S Africa:

PS
You should sell your DIY stuff like they do at RCM re the Gobstopper

Thanks for your help mate was very much appreciated

I'm having a few teething problems. Couple of minor oil leeks which hve been resolved. I'm thinking the under drive pulley maybe causing problems because the battery is eventually dying depsite driving the car. However it's only when the HID lights are on so I'm going to swap them out tomorrow and see if that resolves itself.
However of more concern is the engine appears to be running hot. Oil temps of 90 - 100 just with steady driving and no more than 4krpm. Twice ive hit the water temp cut off point of 105 degrees which kills the engine.
So looks like the rad is to small and the oil cooler is not doing enough.
Will explore more tomorrow. Will hopefully get it resolved as i need to get some miles on it.
Probably see you on Weds when i'm back down there for mapping
OK after a full day of fettling and sorting out some niggles I'm alot happier with the car tonight.
Heat is still an issue but im convinced a better rad and a bigger and better fan will sort that.
In the mean time I've cut the centre out of the thermostat and that appears to be doing the job for now.
The problem only starts to rear its head if I'm either stood or in slow moving traffic for a sustained period of time.
The battery issue must have been just a loose wire as I've gone over the lot tody and made sure its all right and double checked everything was tight.
Been monitoring the two issues via the syvecs tonight, (an absolutely fabulous piece of kit!!). This had allowed me to see where the problems lie.
Here's a log from my last run (oohhh get me
)
