Next job was to get yesterday's purchase which was Gazza's old roll cage (cheers mate) trial fitted.
Firstly I assembled it outside of the car so I knew where everything went and then I did it inside the car so that I know where to weld the blocks for the feet of the cage.
One thing to note was that I had a similar cage to this in my four door and that was an absolute bitch to fit. This my comparsion was a doddle. The longer single door makes things much much easier for getting the back part of the cage in.
Assembled out of the car first
Inside the car, bizarrely I'll have to take about two inches out of the door bars to get them to fit in mine. I guess this is just a consequence of it locating slightly differently in mine.
Any way it's now in and gives me a good idea of where I need to be welding and drilling.

what a nice car.. oh.. and is the dash flocked? are is it good? no problems with it?

Finally sorted the linkage issues out.
I purchase a second hand complete linkage (cheers Adz) and this solved all issues.
No need for washers to space it out and this one didnt have a busted reverse cable so that's another job that can be scrubbed off the to do list. I think most of my problems were caused by the incomplete linkage and then the wrong orientation of some of the linkage fittings.
Anyway all sorted and it appears that all gears can be selected without issue, even the reverse lock works

are you using this car for track daz ?
i am just curious on your side exit exhaust, as i realy struggled passing db levels at tracks with my side exit, i found it very hard to find a box that would give me ground clearance aswel as making the car quiet enough, i have opted for the easier option now and got 96db

I think once i've got mine, Clive's P2 and 1 other out of the way I'm going to start offering to do builds on a regular basis. It would be a nice way to spend my time and earn some cash

I only decided to go this route after I heard the Banana as I was so suprised how quiet that is. The Box I have is well packed. I'm fortunate in that one of my best mates has a stainless steel exhaust business. He has all the gear including proper pipe bending machines. So worse case scenario is that I have a rear exit exhaust made with an additional silencer.
I'll have to see what it's like when it finally bursts into life.

I only decided to go this route after I heard the Banana as I was so suprised how quiet that is. The Box I have is well packed. I'm fortunate in that one of my best mates has a stainless steel exhaust business. He has all the gear including proper pipe bending machines. So worse case scenario is that I have a rear exit exhaust made with an additional silencer.
I'll have to see what it's like when it finally bursts into life.

Now that I have a roll cage I've had to move the gauges because they will no longer be able to be located on the A pillar.
This is where my dilema began. As I have a 97 pre facelift car my options were limited as there were no pods on the market that would be a good fit.
The fact that they are 60mm gauges also complicated the matter.
Anyway long story short I found some holders on ebay that gave me several mounting options.
I decided to go with an on dash mounting method. There were several ways I could have done this but the way I eventually have was reasonably difficult. I had to mount each gauge seperately, line them up which was a nightmare. I had to drill the dash and finally I wanted to hide all the wires from sight.
2 days solid and this is the finished article.

All the ones I've seen are slightly curved or for the 99 dash top box.
To get that on properly I'd have had to take the dash out to enable me to drill all round it. I really couldn't be arsed with that. Besides I quite like how these have turned out
