Let me know when you have read it for me John

I have comitted myself to the ss rubicon 502. That will give me a little more drive up front and according to your website gets the thumbs up

I'll have 2x100W at 12v. I probably do need to spend a little time on the front doors rather than time and money going active for the time being. However you never know

Rockin Ru

I have decided to go for the soundstream 2 channel amp but am intrigued by the 475ti and the prospect of going active

However when it comes to the science side of things I think I probably have a bit to learn

So, why would this on board crossover not work with my focal 165k's?

What would I do with the crossover that comes with the components - chop it out and wire on the speaker cable form the amp?

Martin

I can see if we keep talking about this then it won't be very long before I get the active bug

It does indeed look very much like you will be able to run the 475Ti active without an external crossover. Reading the manual reveals so many options it makes my toes tingle.

You could run a 24dB/oct HPF @ 3.5KHz
A 24dB/oct BPF 70Hz-3.5KHz
And get a 24dB/oct LPF 70Hz to connect to your sub amp.

Set front channel to 350Hz with Freqx10 on, and config set to HP. This runs the tweeters.

Rear input select to mode 3, config on BP/LP, 70Hz. This runs the mids.

See "page 9" (which is page 10 of the pdf) of

Wink

I only say 3.5k as that is what the Focal 165K 18dB/oct passive crossover is stated as. I suppose this would be a minimum, and with a 24dB/oct slope being a bit steeper would certainly be a safe margin. Looks like the 475Ti crossover will go up to 8K IIRC so plenty of room for twiddling

3.5KHz is, in my humble opinion, low for a crossover point as it's slap bang in the vocal midrange.

I used to run at 5k, which ain't far away (certainly same octave) and gives your tweeters a bit less of a workout - check the specs of your tweeters, too...

Nick.

The spec of the 475ti (and 450) is quite impressive and it takes a little timeto get to grip with the manual

I think you are right John, it will have to be next time the wife is away though

I can't believe it!

I have just had an e mail from the seller of my amp saying he is pulling out.

Apparently somebody has told him that if I do not like the amp then he has to pay shipping - which really is a complete load of to55.

I am using

Sounds like you are having a bit of hassle. Can you not source PG/RF/Genesis etc in the UK?

It sounds like the difference you would save would pay flights to the US? Excuse for a holiday?
