Here's what I posted re wind speeds on 22b
Right, found the wind speeds for what it's worth @ Marham
Yesterday -

Today -

Was bothering me about the slower times than the Evos, I am not trying to take anything away from the EVO's great results yesterday.
And a far more technical explanation from Pat -
'Firstly, I would like to thank those who work at RAF Marham for making the event possible by giving up their time for us. Second I'de like to thank the Mechell / Darin / the MLR for organising the event. Between the RAF and MLR the event was very well run, and it was a privilege to be able to attend such an event on an operational Airbase!
It's a shame that after the event an amount of argument has resulted, with no way of settling the "dispute" amicably Suffice it to say that the only fair comparison is one held in identical conditions, but that simply wasn't possible due to the number of entrants / logistics.
I would, however, point out that drag force is proportional to the square of speed, and drag power proportional to the cube of speed. If we are comparing a 20 and a 40 MPH headwind then the relative speeds achieved at the end of the run are 150 and 170MPH. Purely from a drag point of view that would result in an increase of 46% in drag power at the wheels, which using normal MLR correction (24% transmission loss) would require a 91% increase in drag power at the flywheel.
I don't have the time or patience to work out the drag power for every car that ran, but just as an example, and I do need to verify it again, Newage Impreza experiences a drag of around 96kW at around 130MPH. That would mean that to accelerate at the same rate, the same car would have needed an increase in engine power of around 87kW or 118BHP. In other words, just at the point of getting to 130MPH, a car running on Sunday would have needed 618BHP where a car running on Saturday would have "only" needed 500BHP. Perhaps, then, this puts things into perspective a little ?
Cheers,
Pat. '

I was more than pleased with my figures given the wind. I done three more runs in the afternoon and all were on par with the mornings even though I was getting wheelspin on the wet airfield in 2nd and 3rd gear
My top speed run was okay too but I did lose my bottle tbh when I was noticed the bonnet vent lifting ! So I backed out of it, however the car was still pulling strong at 168 !

I was reading somewhere that a guy backed off at 90mph due to his car feeling loose................. 168 good boy !

I had my bonnet scoop totally break free on the left/front of it when doing 145 mph before. It came up a good 100mm from the bonnet and I could not believe it didn't rip the thing right off.
Looks as though everyone had a great day regardless of the weather, so I'm definately going to have a go next year!. Was the weather any better on the Saturday?, as 11 Evo's ran under 10 seconds which is impressive.

Good info fella.
I am looking forward to the event next year too.
Where is Sy on that list ??? or did his body detached from the chassis LMAO

Hi Clive
PMed you last night and gave a brief run down. Clive/Mad was going well despite the tempest, and Sy was feeling his way in gingerly in his 2 mile old car before he got a 4 inch screw in his tyres just before lunch. My old car was, as expected, not the quickest with the close ratio JDM sti 6speed/3.9 diffs meaning I was though all my gear changes before 130 (with others making at least one less gear change)and on the rev limiter in 6th around halfway down the runway. I think my ratios will be good for a track and the 4 year old engine held up well - a credit to RCM.
I left at lunch time (as did Sy) and headed off back to the in laws as the weather was just going from bad to worse and they only live 20 miles away so the prospect of a full sunday roast versus a sunday freeze was suddenly very appealing
The rain/hail/sleet did disappear briefly mid afternoon but it was still blowing a gale so I didn't bother going back.

I heard that many cars broke, melted plugs / pistons ??
I managed a 13.4 in Stevebt's car, i know i could of gone quicker had i got used to his quickshift, which is stupidly short, so great care had to be taken to ensure i did misshift (ie not my usual brutal gear change), it wasnt pulling full boost properly due to no time setting it up on the road. I topped out at 167.x mph, didnt lift untill i was past the red bollards. Not bad for a week old engine, 140miles on the clock, and in a car weighing in at 1503kg!
Here are my excuses

Run the car on Saturday for 1-2 miles on the local roads, this was the first time I used it full bore in 14 month since total rebuild!!
DCCD controller was blowing fuses on the dyno on Friday, so stripped that out and replaced that at 4pm on Saturday - the I though, mmmm shall I test that its working, so down to the end if the industrial estate, DCCD on, three point turn - yes its working - but then saw I had a 3 inch screw in one of the tyres (Lucky I spotted that !!!!) so changed the wheels and tyres for a different set.
BTW made 600/600 on dyno on Friday - but open DCCD was causing rear wheels to slip-(was 640BHP the week before) awaiting enlarged Inlet Mani and T/Body to liberate a bit more top end BHP but happy with the torque)
Sunday-
1st Run - (with passenger) ALS +NOS on - misfire on boost - cleared at top end - carried on to 178-180 still pulling strong - went through red markers - thought, ease down gently - didnt touch brakes for a while - sh~t, run out of runwway -passenger screaming - ended up on the grass after standing on the brakes for the last 200m - returned to the pits- p~ssing our selves laughing - retuned V-box - (they forgot to put chip in it - so didnt register this run) - also lost side and top of windscrreen trim and OS roof gutter half way down the track

Weighed the car - 1227kg which im pleased with, considering its fully road legal with all 4 seats and door card fitted. (when they weighed the car with driver - my passenger was also in there - so no i dont weigh 175KG)
2nd Run - ( with passenger) NOS on but ALS off roling start in second-boged a bit at the start - run a lot smoother but missed 3rd, so eased off put it in properly - carried on to a top end run.
3rd Run - ( with passenger) NOS on but ALS off roling start in first- carried on to a top end run.
4th Run ( with passenger) NOS on but ALS off roling start in second- carried on to a top end run.
Not sure why was not getting better aceleration times - think i was not agressive enough on the gear changes, but it was very smooth at top end. Need so more setting up and adjustments - need to learn the car again.
All 4 runs were started in the "start marker cones" - I wanted to go for a top speed run - giving it full bore as soon as you get straight on the runway, as the car was pulling strong at top speed, but the heavens opened at that was that.
MLR did a fantastic job all day - hope to do another day there.

SY, sounds like the car has it, but as you rightly say you just need to learn the car again.
Should be awesome when it all comes together.
Don't tell me, your passenger on the first run was your Nan
I was under the impression that the run way was 1.5 miles long ??
Was heat a problem anywhere in the engine bay ? and do you have heat wrap anywhere?

Clive
It is 1.5 miles long - but at 180 yr doing half a mile in 10 seconds!!

EGTs were ok - considering the time under massive load -
No problems with heat - Mani-up-down pipe are ceramic coated.

On a different note, I believe I am still in my daughters bad book.
Accidentally hoovered her baby hamster up the Dyson......Whooooooooooops.
Switched off immediately removed the cyclone bit and a large lump of grey dust was moving.
Hammy ok, but looked like it's fur had been styled by a stun grenade.

Just spat food everywhere due to laughing so much
Right up my street, that is... it's the matter-of-factly way it's written
Hoovers and hamsters makes for comedy gold AFAIC

I used to put mine on an old stereogram record player. At 16.67rpm it was fine, but as soon as you ramped it up to 33.33rpm...
(And as for 45/78
...)

I believe the main reason I am still in my daughter's bad book wasn't the fact that I hoovered up Hammy.
5 minutes after the event my daughter shouted " Dad, is it alright?" I foolishly replied " hang on Hun ", so I switched it on and yelled "Yep, still works"

Clive,
My sisters a vet- shes always say, "If I only had a pound for each time a midle aged man brought a baby hampster in, stating the friction burns on its fur were due to a vacumm"
Not that old chestnut
