bob you kit for the classic, have you got any pictures of it ?

reason i ask is ive seen alot of em lately and the ones with the motorised H4 need the rear covers cut and that generally leads to moistier(sp) in the bulb and the glass being dirty so would then maybe affect the reflector of the lights

also your H4 bulbs are they d2 bulbs or are they 1 gas discharge/halogen main bean H4 fitment bulb ?

cheers, theres a reason why im asking btw

Hi,

The H4 Bi kit is motorised, so you get HID for dipped and main beam. I usually make a small slit in the rubber grommet and have not seen or heard of any issues of moisture or dirt getting to the reflectors.

Don't have pics of the bulbs uploaded at the moment, but we have sold and fitted many of these kits to classic without any issue.

Our new ballasts are now tiny:

You can order here:

**** me they are small balasts,

the bulb issue/moisture is what ive been dealing with at work hence me asking

in the end i had to change it for the gas dipped/halogen main and a new rear cap with grommit modded

i keep meaning to get one of these kits but i am having doubts now due to this issue ive had to deal with

also had a warranty issue with a halogen bulb in the H4 conversion that blown,,, which is very strange as ive yet to have a main beam go on any car ive owned

cheers for the help. i know you sell loads of these so wanted some professional experience of them to relate to

Yes, the H4 kits that some people sell with halogen for main beam and HID from dipped are not very good. The halogen part will expire long before the HID.

I have had our motorised HID bulbs fitted to my classic for almost 2 years now, without any issues.

Let me know if you need any further info

As BOB says above, if you fit an HID kit, avoid the ones with halogen bulbs as part of it. The halogen bulb will last nowhere near as long as the HID, making it an expensive bulb replacement process

they aint expensive tbh though, its 7 quid on the net for replacement, guess its cause they aint motorised and the main beams shouldnt expire anyway as how many times will you need it in theory,,,,,,,,,,,

that said i have seen the bulb fail

we sell the kits at work hence me asking, i just found out the other day and so am trying to learn more about em, our kits are WAY over priced though has to be said

ive seen 4 seperate kits so far and they all seem to be the same, they have the same balast as the large one pictured

the ballasts tend to have the same casings, but numerous different cost options for the internals

the ones that are sold at work come with a 2 year warranty.... though there 180 quid PLUS vat which is a ripp off IMO considering they use the same bulds as the 30 quid ebay kits

BOB,

A couple of questions ...

I've currently got a H4 Bi-Xenon set up on my classic ...am i right in thinking that if I wanted to convert to a single HID set up (as I now have morrettes) i can just replace the bulbs to single type?

Is there a H2 kit available yet? & if not, what the smallest (physically) HID bulb available?

& do you offer a H3 kit? ...as i'm thinking of upgrading my spots too

AFAIK, you can't replace an H4 with a single filament, the fitting is wrong, and the bulbs are different lengths, putting te arc in the wrong place, so your light pattern will be all wrong.

You CAN however, buy the H1 version of your Morette outers from here: Cibie Classic Headlamps, 5th one down

No-one makes H2 HID's, nor are they likely to: too small physically, and a minority market

Don't bother with upgrading your spots unless they are driving lights, the foglights are useless, and again, I'm almost certain that an H3 HID doesn't exist.

Sorry to have answered for BOB

Cheers Jeff,

I've managed to get some specs for a single H4 HID bulb & an H4 Bi HID bulb & they are the same size (although im not sure if this is when the Bi bulb is in 'extended' mode or not)

Im not sure i'd want to change my morette outers, as at least i can get a HID bulb to fit these... it's the H2 inners that i could do with changing (as you're right, i cant find a H2 HID bulb anywhere, actually i can ...but i cant understand how to import them from China ) & unfortunatley it doesn't look like i can get the unusual sized 5" lens anywhere either ...unless i can source & measure one from an old e30 bmw or Golf mk1 or 2

H3 HID kits are available & quite common by the looks of it ...will go nicely in my pencil beam PIAA's
