Very rarely, it's old age that gets the gaskets as they tend to fall apart, mine went but only as i had an airlock with a new engine.

And rumour has it the gti180 lump had problems making the power when designed, something to do with it breaking cranks i believe.

cob here's something you'll like, a bit of jamie tonks, he was running 340hp at one point, it's a rare 405t16 lump, they usually sell for £3500.

Already seen that crazy $hit

I would be more than happy to get my Pug to keep up with a Type R.A., although this may take a few quid

(in a straight line I meant)

Hmmm 4wd 205GTI, that would be fun.

The MI engine, if built properly, is a good little motor, especially in a light car like the 205. They mainly suffer from oil starvation on long right handers though and need slight modding to alleviate but not rid the problem
The V6 engine was more of an engineering challenge that Hilgie loves doing. It's not practical though. Too much weight in the front causing oversteer and the best bit, you have to remove the engine to change the rear bank of spark plugs.

The S16/306 GTi-6 engine seems the way to go now for a factory fit look. Better starting base and stronger block. No daft wet liners so boring out is easier and cheaper. Good exhaust manifold and throttle bodies with a stand alone ecu, some head work, good cams and 220 is achievable. Have a read through some of Maxi's threads, very good read.

The fact that hybrid gear boxes are easy to sort out makes the cars so versatile. I used a 1.6 box with an Mi 5th gear for motorways. Really good acceleration up to around a ton. From a rolling start, it would keep up with a lot of more powerful kit.

Even a mildly tuned 205 with Mi engine and suspension tweeks, when driven correctly, will annoy subarus on the track. There are a good few videos on the 205 drivers forum showing this.

Loved the 205's, it's what I had before going scoob.

Just make sure the rear suspension beam is in good nick Some bright spark wrote a half decent guide into refurbishing them

I had a blue saxo give me a bit of a run for the money a couple of days ago, Looked standard and caught me up on a A road approaching the lights, Lights turned green I'm off with saxo welded to the boot, I'll show him i thought and buried the throttle, It took till third gear and advantage of torque to pull away eventually! He would have never passed me but was a quick little motor.

A mate of mine who is a very handy mechanic used to have a W-plate VTS Saxo. A very rare example of a none chavved up one i digress too

Roll cage, lowered on coilovers, and some engine fettling saw it with over 165bhp from a n/a 1600 engine. It was a bloody scary ride in it too, very similar to my Pug actually, plus he is a mentalist driver

Seems to be dean may have been beaten by a pug in a previous life lol.

Well yb cossies have been fitted to pugs, there was a 309 using the 4x4 gear, just the one car i believe and it was running 300hp.

One in france used the 405t16 running gear, trouble is you have to fit the read shafts to what i would call a live axle, the torsion car means the rears run independantly, i can see it being a toublesome fit then there's the welding of the transmission tunnel.

Nick is right about the s16 lump it is good, im not so keen on the gti6 lump from what ive seen it's weaker, if i gave it more thought id have gone the 2.3l s16 route, a friend in norway has done this and the car is mental.

But anyway as ive said if your itching for more poke fit an s16 or just wait for another scoob.

I'd love another sleeper.

About 3 years ago i blew up my silver XR2i 16v so got a 2.0 zetec and rebuilt it. An enlarged throttle body, kent cams, got the ports matched to the manifolds, 4 branch and full exhaust and left the rest of the car standard. She would run a 1/4 in 14.1 and to this day swear it was quicker than my scoob! In a straight line at least. Maybe should have done something with the brakes though!

That little car upset alot of people. I loved it! Looked near enough standard under the bonnet too!

I know a good few people which have put big power yb's in MK1/2 Escorts. I've not long got my 1st scoob and the guy who brought my old MK2 Escort is now putting a 380bhp yb in it

One of them doe's 1/4 mile in a tad over 10secs
Another has been officially clocked on specalist gear at 175mph it's offcially the fastest old school ford ever

But to get that sort of performance your looking in the region of min £10k

heres a vid
