Spoon - you are quite right in what you say - there are many people out there who will do alot to earn a quick buck or two and if it means dishing out poor calibut pups then so be it.
I did think that your jumping on 20withascooby's back was a little harsh
- HOWEVER i don't "rate" posts so as you said - i wasn't the only one LOL.
coming slightly away from topic (apologies) when we were looking into mating our Ruby, we came across some right low-lives who wanted to take our baby away and "home/kennel" her for the remaining season. ABSOLUTELY not was our approach, we later found out that "said breeder's" intention was to actually tie/anchor my girl to a bench and have her raped at frequent intervals and sedate her if necessary - now how bad is that. as said - there are pigs out there, in it for nothing more than lining their own pockets, without sparing a thought for the lifespan of the offspring - but i must admit - I too thought that rear leg problems was something that GSD suffer with. (sorry )

Yes, Its only a problem amongst the breeding of the unscrupulous that have no interest in maintaining the breed standard. My point was its not common in a genuine GSD that has been scored. Of course the odd health problem is unforseen and is unexpected, but then your stated heart problem isn't remotely related to hip scoring which is what I was correcting in the post by 20withascooby.
I've noticed that you're not the only one to completely miss the point of my last post judging by the negative rating for a factual post.
I see it often when people say they've bought a GSD that looks nothing like a genuine GSD. Its like comparing a Impreza Sport with a turbo and saying they are the same. Of course you can't tell them because their mates, dads, uncle in the pub said it was a top pedigree.
That said, it doesn't mean it detracts from the absolute love and devotion that dog can give a family, which is by and large the main purpose of a dog for most people.

If people post inaccurate statements then they need correcting.
Having lost several dogs over the years I know exactly how Talizman feels. Let me assure you his entire family has been spared more than a seconds thought at this time.

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd say thanks for all the really kind words. My wife and I have both found it comforting to read your posts at this sad time.
I must say, in the past 4 days I must have experienced every emotion known to man... The sadness has been overwhelming, as has the unbelievable numbness. We've felt robbed of our boy and quite hard done by. Denial has been a factor too and also huge pity for our boy that he had to endure such an experience at his tender age.
I have a slight tinge of guilt also, due to the fact that my boy was home alone when his time came, and none of us had any idea of what was coming.
I can honestly say that I never ever saw that day coming, and when it did it hit me like a sledgehammer. I wish so much that my boy didn't have to be alone when he left this world, but no amount of wishing or tears can undo what has happened.
They say that time heals all wounds so in time I'm sure the feeling of having a heavy heart will lift but in the meantime we are given strength from the kind wishes and condolences that everyone has expressed.

I had to ship my two boys out to friends/family for a couple of months while sourced a new place after selling the farm (moved into my flat in Bothwell), but the joy of having my two nutters was immense when i finally bought a place on the outskirts of Lanark. They love it. Plenty of room to run about daft play the joker

And what I meant by "harsh" is that 20withascooby, was pointing something out that is said VERY often, and to people who do not breed dogs or have years of experience with GSD's (and other dogs), its a common misconception.

I think some of the posts on here should be removed, who cares about hip scoring arguments, the OP has lost his dog, he probably doesn't really want to see argumants and petty squabbles starting.

Don't worry too much about the epilepsy, my lurcher, Holly, lived for many happy years (7?) with epilepsy. It was easily controlled by tablets and she loved it because she got a bit of fresh bread everyday to hide the tablet in 
She lived to the ripe old age of 13 before unfrotuantly developing bone tumours. We only realised when she slipped on the kitchen floor and broke a leg. She was put to sleep the day after and I still miss her everyday

Hurts to loose a family dog. I know, having lost my best bud of 20 years a few years back. Rotten as you feel now, in time the pain will subside and you will simply remember and treasure the good times, trust me on that one.

This really is heart wrenching,the thought of being without my little boy (5 yr old Boxer) just doesn't bare thinking about.
It's at times like this you sit back and think about all the little things about pets that warm the heart.From simply waiting at the door for you to return home from work to pestering you to get out of bed in a morning and feed them!
I can't imagine what you're gong through Talizman apart from it hurts like hell.
