I am not worrring about the singers politics really, the music is what counts and the whole Radio One bum lickery that goes on around every act (event if you have never heard) them goes into overdrive for Coldplay, they talk like its Elvis himself playing, all reverential, Colplay just annoy me, Keane and the Kaiser Cheifs as bit as well but special ire for Colplay. Plus Radio one trying so hard to be hip and playing Rap, its like my granny pretending to be into it.

Real music like Kasabian is where its at, bit of an edge, proper old school dad rock on Planet Rock as well, I know what I like.

I will listen to Dido before Coldplay.

You mean like a sort of 'warm up' to put you in the mood ...?

Do you always listen to them in this order ...?

If Chris Martin really truely believed in the patronising messages he writes on his hands then he would get them tattooed there.

Not keen on their songs tbh. Bit too depressing on the sound front.

Music News - The latest music news and gossip from Yahoo! Music UK & Ireland

John Lydon doesn't think much of them.

Quote Lydon

"They looked like a gang of little poncy masturbators."

Obviously Lydon is a self abuser himself but what a fantastic quote.

Not that I am slating one of the most important albums in the history of popular music.

Coldplay are effectively "easy listening" which is fine, when you want to turn off your brain.
I sometimes have them on when I am working becaue it lets me concentrate on what I am doing - I don't have to concentrat eon the music.

I don't get the comparisons they get with Radiohead, though, the two are very dissimilar. (Plus of course, Radiohead are only slightly Behind Pulp as being the best "modern" British band)

I think by default most popular music is "left wing". I mean its all about inclusion and heart break and love and being skint and racial issues and life in Britian today as a teenager.

There is very little "ban this sick filth" and "immigration at an all time high" in popular song lyrics.

As a recently outed appreciator of Coldplay and U2 and in the interests of balance, I must stress that I read neither The Mail nor The Guardian. Additionally, and unlike Messrs Bono and Martin, I fully support the continuing economic oppression of the third world via debt burden. I wouldn't want anything as futile as politics to come between me and the primal pleasures of a rudimentary backbeat and a well crafted melody.

YouTube - Skrewdriver - European Battle Song

This is quite a catchy tune.

Jesus, I thought this thread was depressing when it was just about Coldplay, then Radiohead get thrown in too.

Only good thing about Radiohead is that they make Coldplay look good...

My Dad likes Coldplay and he's 67.
Says it all for me really.

Heard the new one whilst in a book store today. Sounded like a few decent ideas mixed it with some aimless arty noodling played by 6th formers trying to be U2

5hite bland musically for me. Rytham section are about as powerfull as a light gentle breeze.

However, things are looking good for Brit music:
Heard these the other day and bought the cd on a whim - it's superb.
Shockingly old school in the fact the album is good from begining to end. No filler, just solid Brit arty rock.
YouTube - Royworld - Dust - single OFFICIAL
Even if the singer looks like a tall Fernando Alonso

They are a good band, good musicians and by all accounts, top blokes

However, still can't get over the vocal similarities with the dude from Arcade Fire....

I think you'll find most pop stars or stars for that matter are hypocrites. They say do as we say but not as we do. Take the save the earth bollocks concert a few months ago. All the stars turned up in private jets for ***** sake. Made my laugh when Simon Le Bon said will anybody who didn’t arrive on a private jet put your hands up. Nobody did, as they all stood around looking embarrassed.

If Bono, Chris Martin etc don't like capitalism why don’t they give all of their riches away because its good old capitalism that made them stinking rich!

Just shut up and play your music! By the way like Cold Play’s music; sorry!
