Oil Advice and Recomendations here

Hi
I would use a really good 5w-40 synthetic.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition.
Regards
Tim

Hi Kev
A 5w-40 is ideal
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.
Cheers

Hi, I have a 2006 Legacy R Spec B 3000cc with 85000 and looking for your advice on what oil to get. It is using oil but I cant see how and there are no leaks and I want to make sure its getting the best oil I can get for it. It was serviced last month and had 5/30 fully synthetic added (don't know the make but it was General Motors approved) and it needs topped up again! What oil do you recommend? Thanks

Hi
If it's burning off a 5w-30 fairly quickly, go for a 5w-40

Hi Oilman, my car has been serviced with 10w60 oil for last couple of years, would it be safe to change to 5w40 ? I'm doing short trips everyday (school run) car is a 2003 sti , will be running about 380bhp in few weeks. No track use.
Thanks
Thanks

Both are good oils, the CFS is their 'normal' top end oil, but the Nanodrive is a bit special

I would say a good 5w-40 would probably be the way to go, unless you are getting high (over 125C) oil temps, then a 10w-50 is the best choice.

Hi
I would use a 10w-50 as it's modified and getting track use.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx
The Nanodrive CFS is, on paper, the best oil available, but the Pro S and CFS are both really good oils, so all are good choices for your car.
Cheers

Hi Oilman, I'm sure I could just read through this thread and copy somebody elses' recommendations but a "tailored" suggestion is always welcome!
2005 STI on 44k miles. Car is running 320bhp.
Currently doing around 6k miles a year which is primarily a 7 mile drive to work, then home again - so rarely on boost.
It gets a blast out at least once per week, and will be doing 5-6 track days per year - so a good blast on those occasions.
I'm doing twice yearly oil changes, my next due in November. Will be followed up by a full specialist service in May/June time.

Hi
For the winter, I'd go for a 5w-40.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition.
In the summer, if the oil temp gets up to 130C or more on track, use a 10w-50 for the change in May/June, or if the temp stays under that, stick with the 5w-40.

Hello Oilman
Make Subaru
Model Impreza V6
Year 1999
Engine size/type 2.0ltr turbo, forged internals
Any mods
Recent engine rebuild (13k Km/8K miles) running about 350bhp EcuTek mapped by Bob Rawle, with forged MAHLE pistons, MANLEY rods, ARP studs, ACL race bearings, modified Oil Pump 12mm, NGK Spark Plugs PFR7B, Turbo IHI VF23, FMI, K&N air intake 57i, full decat exhaust 3” HKS(Hi Power), equal length exhaust Manifold, Fuel Injectors DENSO 550cc, WALBRO fuel pump.
Type of use (road/track) Ocasional road
I use it as weekend driver with the occasional bit of enthusiastic driving, No track days or anything like that.
Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)
I currently use Shelll Helix Ultra 5w40, but unfortunately I haven´t yet installed oil temperature and pressure gauges, not sure on oil temps.
What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?
What would you recommend? who oil is the best for my engine and best protects.
Regards

Hi Joseph
Go for a 5w-40 in the engine.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx
Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.
You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx
If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Redline 75w-90NS and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Amsoil FGR are also good choices.
Cheers
