Default The best-laid plans..

I'm sorry to p1ss on your bonfire here and I truly admire your sentiment, but does anybody here actually think that this will make a blind bit of difference?

The performance car, like smoking and drinking is not politically correct [for environmental and health reasons respectively] ~ therefore these non PC commodities are going to continue to be taxed beyond belief/redemption until the government can think of an alternative [semi-evil] source of revenue to pick on..

You’re not going to wake up tomorrow morning and suddenly find that petrol taxation has been reduced to a reasonable level, it just isn't going to happen no matter how many petitions we sign or protests we make.

Despite this fact, I do admire your efforts and you've built quite a nice website

BTW ~ I smoke / drink and drive performance cars excessively ~ but not at the same time obviously!!

The whole point is it's not just performance cars .... ALL CARS ... even the missus' festa is affected as is everything you buy in the shops that have to go through a distribution network ... ie pretty much everything !!

Why do you think the french strike so much .... because it does work ... it can turn a p1ss take into a compromise and that is at least a step in the right direction !

No worries your just putting your point of view across, the poll tax was scrapped in 1991 partly due to the 100,000 people that protested in London (which ended up as a mass riot)

the thing is we as a nation whinge and moan (me being one of them) but do nothing and just swallow it. Even if it amounts to nothing and lets face it the goverment really dont give a s*** then atleast we can sit back and say we gave it our best shot.

thanks for the comments on the website, i'm no web designer or ever will be, it means a lot seeing as someone slated it on MLR forum.

thanks

Have sent an email to CHP publishing who produce Japanese Performance, as well as Performance Tuner, Ultra VW, Auto Italia, 911 & Porsche World and American Car World.

I've asked them to publicise the website in their next issue if they're inclined to help us. Fingers crossed...

I would suggest avoiding central london as we'd all have to pay the congestion fee too.....more tax to the government!

Something we need to think about:

A suitable date in the summer?

What or plans are?

do we just have a convoy down the M1 into London or congregate in London, throw some ideas at me please.

I'd suggest either the M1 or the M4 as they're both major routes into London.
We'd also probably need to meet up at a services somewhere early otherwise we'll just get stuck in rush hour traffic!

I personally agree with the sentiment of KevPage - don't fancy paying the congestion charge when we'll be creating it lol.

Dont forget about the Northerners.

A 50mph run from north to south, picking people up and dropping off along the way depending on how far each person want to travel.

It will have to be a well laid out plan for people to be ready to join the convoy but it may well work.

When a date is set, email as many news crews as possible well in advance and get some publicity from it.

We need everybody to understnad what the effects of an increase in car tax will do to not just the cost of taxing your car but it is decreasing the value of it also.

I'd suggest a convoy slowly around the M25, not really interfering with emergency vehicles and would be easy access from most areas. Could even stop the traffic on there if feeling brave. Safe environment and plenty of room if loads of people turn up?

The impact on traffic around the whole of London would be affected.

Who was the bloke who orginised the last protests at the oil refineries? It might be an idea to get them involved and the haulage industry as they stand to lose their business/jobs.

That would work for us Southerners. Like Nick says, maybe a "two pronged attack" might be even better and have one go up the M1, one up the M25 or a combination of the two. We could even start down South and meet the North half way

Not entirely sure about stopping - the police probably won't take too kindly to us driving at 40-50mph everywhere, but if we stop I'm guessing we'd be likely to be arrested for causing an obstruction / dangerous / careless driving - take your pick!

A drive round the M25 seems a good idea to me. People could get on and off at "their" junction and stay with the convoy all the way round. I'd be up for doing that, I think positive action like this is required, otherwise the government just won't listen.

Suggest that there is some sort of sticker (or perhaps even one of those car flags) that advertises what the action is about, so that others can see who is on the convoy.

Also if there was a lot of people doing it (it would be great to get other car clubs/forums), I think a park up for the organisers and supporters, somewhere just off the M25 - or maybe on a bridge over it/beside it, then those on the convoy can pass by that point and know they had lent their weight to the protest properly. You could even count the cars going past for an "official figure" of protesters.

Then ask the RAC (and other motoring organisations) and motoring press to attend. They can talk to the organisers, get their view on why it's happening. If it's big enough even some friendly MP's maybe, I'm sure there must be some who think the current level of motoring taxation is wrong.

Advertising a fixed date now (for say 3 months away) and then pushing that out with the action planned to as many car sites as possible would give people time to get ready. Then regularly posts/updates on all those forums say once a week to remind people and drum up interest.

Very big and you'd probably need to let the police know, but hey I'm a 21st Century anarchist and if I wanna drive round the M25 I will :-)
