Hi there
I was and still suffering from the similar symptoms as you describe, albeit abdominal pains can have numerous causes.
Hopefully you may find some solace in this, but I went through all the blood test several times and all came back clear every time.
Eventually I was diagnosed as suffering from severe gall stones, its long and painful path, I went to the doctors back December and had numerous blood tests all clear and blood pressure was fine, my heart rate was often above the norm, but this can be the norm when anxious.
The gall bladder problem was diagnosed from ultra sound scan some 6 weeks later, as I was told x-ray are not suitable for distinguishing this type of disease.
My first consultation with the NHS surgeon was not booked with the NHS until this very week, and the operation would be some 6-12 weeks after that .
Fortunately my job covered me for private medical so my operation to have the gall bladder removed is next Wednesday
My pain when not so severe to be felt alway across my stomach was mainly on my right upper quadrant, what feels like under the rib cage. Often the pain is so intense you can't narrow it down to specific area. To describe the pain as cramps is very apt, more so in the early stages.
My pains are often brought on by fatty oily foods, but this also comes down to 'Stodgy' foods bread etc, the pains more often than not, come on, on the evening, bedtime or through the night often staying with me for anything from 1hr through 6, at the moment pending the operation I have just suffered for 26 hours
I have never vomited with the pains (cramp like)
In the early stages it was difficult to put it down to foods and types, as the pains sometimes started 24 hours after eating. The gall bladder releases bile down the bile duct and is not always active so it really is dependent on foods you have eaten well before the onset of pain; however this is not a hard fast rule as now I am in the later stages of the diagnosis the pains seem to be pretty much instantaneous.
I try my hardest now to eat healthy but sometimes one slice of bread at the wrong digestive time can cause me to be doubled up for hours.
I have also gone from 15.5stone down to 12.5 in 3 months, not a bad thing I am sure most will say, but I carried 15 stone well, and losing this amount of weight so quickly due to illness is not the best way.
Hope this is of some help to you.

MickWrx - thank you for your reply. Sounds like you've hard a horrible time of it... and certainly not the ideal way to diet!!
What you've experienced is interesing.. I have mentioned a few times to my fiance that I've had a 'funny stomach' so perhaps I should keep some sort of food diary to see if anything aggrevates things. The pain you've described sounds a lot like mine, but mine has def. been going across my entire tummy..and has even moved down from right between my ribs to across my tummy button area.... it's seems to have settled down again atm.. but thats how it was yesterday...
I wish you the best with your op, I hope it goes well, and it brings some relief - you'll have to let us know how things go.

My pleasure
Thanks for the best wishes, I don't like hospitals at all but am really eager to get this out of the way.
I struggled in the early days last September when i first started with small bowts? of pain to work out what it was, and found it difficult to get any answers, my own fault but I left it till December before I thought I better get this looked at, and by that stage the relatively easy option of removing the stones only had passed.
My pains are always on my right side, but often then spread due to the cramping to the same area as you describe.
I would hate to think of others suffering like me, If I where you I would go to GP and ask, insist on a ultrasound scan, pain free and takes 10 minutes, the gentlemen who did my scan confirmed stones straight away, with 5 seconds of touching the thingybobs (techinical word) on me so common are they, although he did say don't tell your GP I told you thats not my job.
peace of mind is often a great healer. Hope you get sorted soon or indeed best case its just some sort of indesgestion

Did the Ranitidine ease your symptoms?
If you were prescribed Ranitidine, its unlikely the Doc found anything other than gastrointestinal acid. So don't worry too much.
If the pain severe, and goes all the way round to your back, he may have tested you for Pancreatitis. If he suspected this, he will very likely have asked you if you drink a lot of alcohol.
Pancreatitis, in most instances it will go away by itself, in some cases it has proved fatal. Your Doc will have tested you for this, and if you had it, you would definitely have been admitted.

Thanks for your reply, Scunnered.
Ranatidine eased the crushing feeling on my chest but not the stomach pains..
I've just located my discharge sheet ( which I didnt realise i had - my other half must have been handed it) which is not very legible, but it looks to say Gastritis..
from what I've just read this differs from Gastroenteritis by the fact that the latter is a common & infectious illness..and gastriitis is inflammation of the 'gastric mucosa of the stomach'...
Anyhoos.. pain is quite a bit better today, and I feel brighter in myself.. still can't face food but i hope this whole thing was just a one off episode., as I have never felt pain like it....

I'm not trying to self diagnose as such, and as in my OP, rather than waste the valuable time of the A&E staff if it is just that i need a good trouser trumpet, I thought it might be an idea to see if anyone on here has had gallbladder/pancreas realted issues and if their symptoms were similar - or if the Dr's were right in their hesitant diagnosis of gastric related stuff... I know there are some Dr's (and by that I mean professional medically trained ones which frequent SN), and thought they might be able to asisst but ta for your reply

if you mean me, Nope - and I think I spoke too soon..the pain is hovering again talk about tempting fate
I have managed to eat a decent meal rather than picking at it, so I guess that is another step in the right direction

You can detect them with blood test and then confirm with ultra sound.
Gall stones will really hurt with fatty foods - and when they get really bad, even, like a few crisps will set them off.
With regards to not showing up at A&E - seriously do it lots. The only way you will get some proper attention is to make an absolute nuisance of yourself and show up at the hospital every time you get an attack - It might sound a little , well you know, selfish, but honestly, the more you show up, the more they will want fix you up and see the back of you for good.

Please go and see a doctor. You're not a hypochondriac so get yourself seen to.
