Think what i have learned is to book the mot at mallusk as they dont seem to check for cats. either that are they are all a bunch of petrol heads like us lot.

got a guy to look over the car today and he immediately noticed the top cam sensor wasn't connected fully......doh stupid me!

now i just need to get the car out of limp mode (i think - engine management light, limited boost and won't rev past 4k?)

any ideas?

Is your speedo still working, if the cable goes that will put you in limp mode!

Disconnect battery overnight may be enough to sort the ecu without the reset

Think the scangauge will clear it, sometimes the dissconnected battery will do it, failling that its a subaru mechanic with the laptop to reset it.

4 faults, 3 cleared ok just left with:
p1086 tumble generator butterfly

i remember disconnecting it to get at another sensor and it sort of sprung as i took it off. any ideas how many times it needs wound to be normal? or any tips on winding it? very little room.
got it wound round once and the car felt so much better but thinking it mayb needs wound round again?

Was speaking to Johnny 2day as my motors getting more work done next week, He was telling me that when you brought your car up some1 had fitted a different turbo which had the actuator cut and welded, also runnin over 2.3bar of boost! the damage was done before the map/rolling road session 2.3bar is too much boost for standard internals.

If you hadve posted the full story about the turbo being dodgy then we might not have had some ppl saying that ai did the wrong thing by revvin your engine too high.

Hope u dont have any troubles once you get the new engine sorted.

2.3 Bar of boost..........whoaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

My STI is making 1.3 - 1.4 at peak. And its making proper STI figures on AI's RR......dread to think what that level of boost would be doing to my engine.....think thats the problem located for you anyways LOL

In order to run 2.3 bar, the overboost protection would have to be removed. Who done that ??? and how was it not noticed ?

And not that many OE fit turbos would even be capable of generating, and holding 2.3 bar boost.

Overboost wouldnt cause big ends to fail either. If there was a problem with that much boost, there would be melted/damaged pistons involved long before any other damage.

Just exactly what turbo is on the car ?

well with that here ends the world....

breaks, brakes duhhh1

TOO MANY NIGHT SHIFTS

ooh wrong thread, wrong web site

right, there is no need to try and second guess anything, cuz if you wernt there, or you are not part of the engine, simply we know nowt, Chris - strip the failed engine down, see what failed, bearings just dont go, by the sounds of it the car has not been looked after, if the over boost protection has been removed, well then you are looking at a problem thats has been waiting to bite you big style. I know the lads at Ai know there stuff, getting work done by ANY mapper does bring in its self risks, we have to accept that, I have complete faith in the guys and they are doing my mapping, when scoobyclinic gets the bloody exhaust right , but thats another thread

the vf35 was fitted on the car about 3 weeks ago. when i lifted the car from the mechanics it was cold. so i took it down the road on the way home. never over 2-2.5k rpm until it was warm. decided to give it a bit of welly in 2nd gear...

once it came on boost it just lit all 4 wheels......lifted immediately! it was on boost for all of about 1 second! checked the boost controller and it had hit 2.37bar of boost.

drove straight to ai (about 10 miles max) off boost to see if they could take a look at it.
phil took the car up the road to see what it was doing, came back switched a pipe around, back up road, same thing. came back to workshop took a closer look, noticed the actuator arm and said that was the culprit.

drove the car back up road, off boost, and replaced with another actuator arm. set boost to 1.1bar and thats how its been.

i never once blamed ai, i was just asking for some advise on where i stood. and it must have run 2.3odd bar of boost for about 1-2 seconds at most with me behind the wheel!

all's sorted there tonight there anyway, engine going perfect.....map mayb just needs tweaked a bit cos of different compression and cams etc.

Glad to hear alls well that ends well.......

I can definately tell by the way this thread has been worded that it was not intended as having a go at anyone or any company...more curiosity as to what happened, and what caused it, so as to not have a repeat....

And I would have to say, thats exactly what scoobynet was created for....

Fair play to ya fella and hope you get the car running exactly the way you want it in the near future...
