Default A1 Power run booked

Got a run up to A1 today, talking to the guys, car booked for its power run on Friday then we shall see what will stick on and remap, deffo exhaust, have been told some works been done to the car but you know what people are like, so if i get standard I'll be happy, its more the health I want to check, new belts fitted by eastwoods last week, coolant replaced. levels checked.

called into eastwoods on way home to see if some parts had arrived that I ordered, 2 new STI's in with an old face looking round it, GAWLEY aka chris, (great to seee ya again) got a test drive in the new sti, loved the finish inside, but that ****, mmmm , no way

well keep yas updated on the mods, still have not decieded on what exhaust system to go for, full decat, @MOT@??, or sports cat, deffo 3" system...

what ya reckon boys

mine is up 4 mot next month m8, will let you know how she go's without the cats. Apparently the vf turbo's produce more torque with a littlew resistance so a sports cat might be worth a think.

id go for the 3" into 2.5 at the bottom of the downpipe, i think a 3" straight through may be too much of not planning bigger mods and a larger turbo

Default Dyno done

Well got the dyno run done, check the sheet out, not as high as I was told when I bought the car , but at least I now know she aint been messed with, big thanks to Phil & Jonny. Got her booked in to get the Exhaust, Fuel Pump, Plugs and remap done, then she will be rock'n. Phil says to go decat 3" system.

YouTube - On the dyno

Heres the dyno sheet

Depends on the cause.

But big end failure is pretty much a random occurance on Subarus. Although use of low quality oil, or poor maintenance etc wont help matters.
Some might last a few thousand, others 200,000.
But well maintained cars tend to last longer than those that arent.

What sort of history does the car have ? any non-standard parts bolted on ? Some clutch/flywheel combos can also contribute, if they arent balanced properly. Especially the ultralight flywheels

Classic cars circa 99/00 seem to suffer it a lot more than other models for some reason. But it can happen on most models.

If somehow the damage is related to the mapping, then Im sure you have some comeback. If it was a melted/broken piston, then good chance the damage was caused, rather than it just happens, as would likely be the case with big ends.

i really don't know that much about the car at the minute stevie. took it as a trade in about a week ago.
got the old engine pulled out and an sti engine all built up ready to go into it. haven't pulled the old engine apart just yet to see what exactly happened.

i use castrol rs sport in most of my engines and i only changed the oil and filter about 800 mile ago. the car has a full service history, etc. i always warm up and cool down a turbo car etc but i can't vouch for previous owners.

i'm not trying to tarnish any1's name or mapping, i've nothing against ai, like u say it can be a completely random thing, just trying to find out a few things cos its an expensive week! lol

As stevie says it could be a lot of things. Unfortunley some ppl dont luk after their cars like ppl on here and the previous owner just might not have luved it as much as u!

If its the Castrol 0/40, I wouldnt put it near the car. If its the 10/60, then its a suitable oil.

its like AI would say.

if the car blows up on the rollers it would blow up on the road.

when i got my r mapped/setup, the guy said he wud not rev a car 2 the cutout if he didnt know it. he said most scoobys peak well b4 the limit, so there is no need 2 limit them. when my car was on the rollers the boss said to rev to the limit and the guy who was mapping my car said no. i spent the day with this man and he is really switched on, also very careful and detailed. it was like he was plugged into my car!! i`ve had numerous scoobs and have blown quite a few engines, if u start tunning, simply std internals cant stik high revving. imo
