Too true. The majority of drivers in this country have no idea how to merge ... they just seem to panic and don't know what to do, so stop! Drives me fecking nuts. I have driven in other coutries where the cars don't even slow down to merge if one lane of the motorway is blocked ... 70mph+ and everyone just slots into a gap and keeps moving ... bloody great.

Nice to hear it, I'm guessing you're either very experienced as a driver or have been on a few training courses. Your overtaking technique is redolant of the aware, polite and effecient driver.

While agree these types are annoying the action you are taking is wrong. You're overtaking wtihout being able to see the road in front of you. In this situation you should be hanging back rather than hanging on the coat tails of another incompetent driver.

I think he may have flashed because he felt the overtaking was dangerous, regardless of the fact that you did the right thing etc.

He obviously percieved some on coming danger and felt you were taking the **** a bit. I've had it before, been flashed or when I have slowed down to whatever speed limit is being imposed, the numpty decides to drive right up and switch his/her beams on.

End of the day if you were confident of the situation, believed there was no danger and obviously knew your car inside out, you were not in the wrong.

However I have no respect for drivers who break out of a queue and drive head on into your car... not fun

Apart from leaving your full Beams on being well out of order - I do a lot of my drivng out in the sticks where all you have is verges either side of the road. I've overtaken people doing 40 in a 60, only to actually have them swerve to stop you from overtaking

Bloody Madness!!! and people who leave their full Beams on has become a real pet hate because they just don't like being overtaken. More than one once I have Over taken (on a straight) They leave the Lights on full and now I just come to a complete stop till they take em off. I suppose i ain't clever but have been pushed to it since driving a car that looks like it's come out of a Cornflake box

The other vehicle swerved towards me when I so close behind I had to go onto the grass to avoid a collision. I didn't see the concrete block until too late.

Dude - My thoughts are with. I thought my scuff was bad. Inside lane of a mini roundabout where the old guy in the middle lane thinks it would be nice if he went nice a close to the roundabout - oh don't mind that impretzaru thingy.

One a Ford Mondeo, the second a Landy and the last was an old guy is some classic car I didn't recognise.

Meridian, did you get the guys number plate? Should pass it to the cops, that is surely assualt with a deadly weapon?

I think we have all had this at least once when over taking.

The only possible explanation i can give is that its usually dished out by, A) old people, B) dizzy women, or C) the unemployed. Now dont get me wrong but 90% of people whom fall in the above categories have absolutely no idea of what is happening around them whilst driving, no concept of speed, let alone how to appreciate a performance car (and probably dont ever want to)!

So, if i ask you the question, and we've all been in this situation, what do you think when a smoky old 'slammed' Fiat Punto with next to no exhaust attempts to pass you on the wrong side of the road??
You chuckle to yourself and think tosser!

This is all we are to the above people, and its a similar feeling we evoke inside them, they just feel the need to flash as well.

I was followed nearly all the way home by a old woman in a new mazda last night, who had her main beam on all the way !! I adjusted my mirror to give her a clue she was blinding me to f*@k ! But didn't get it so I covered my mirror ! till didn't get it. Fogs went on ! She still didn't get it !!! Useless !! People like that shouldn't be on the road !!!!!!!!

Had a cracker today!!

Single lane Traffic, it then leads to a Roudabout, which then becomes a Dual Carriageway.

I'm on the Dual Cariageway now, in the outside lane.

A Ford Ka is in the inside lane behind a lorry.

I'm along side this Ka when It pulls out, no signal nothing, I'm just at her bonnet by now.

I don't want my Scoob damaged !, I have virtually nowhere to go, there is thank god just enough room for me to get into a gully by the crash barrier & just get by.

WTF did MRS MERTON DO??

Pulls back into the inside lane then, Flashes her lights & pulls back out in front of a BMW who, leaves a lot of rubber on the road, don't know he missed her & managed to stop.

She then flashes Kraut.

He drives past me just shaking his head in disbelief!

I get flashed a lot undertaking. Before you flame me, I do a lot of miles on the M3, where people lane hog a lot. I sit alongside them in the (empty) middle or inside lane, giving them ample chance to move their fat **** over. Then when they fail to take the hint, boot it up the inside and move out to prove a point, getting a 'flash, flash' in the process. To which I respond with a few rear foglight flashes and a finger, not that the daft ****ers are going to be observent enough to notice the latter.

It's not just the scoob that it happens with. Had it happen a lot in the past.

Had it happen just the other day as well. Couple of cars and a van in front of me, 2nd car in the queue pulls out to overtake so I pulled out and passed car #3 and then noticed that car #2 doesn't look like he has time to pass the van, so pulled in, no brake lights used at all, car behind is giving it all the hand signals like I was mad to pull the manouver... bear in mind that at this point in time car #2 is still out overtaking head on into on-coming traffic.

Anyway, next straight and I'm passed the van, etc and the car with the hand signals is still sitting behind it.

Enter a village and I'm at the limit and the van pulls off... car #3 catches me in a 30 like you wouldnt believe... 50+ IMO. As I pulled off the road to take a back road into work he's tooting the horn and "signalling" again... still don't know what I did as he wasn't going to overtake at all, he was sitting behind those cars/vans when I arrived behind him and he sat there until the other vehicles moved out of the way.

Am fed up with cars that sit at 45-50mph EVERYWHERE. Overtook a scabby old fiesta one time ONLY 'cos it was spewing out a hell of a lot of oil along with the exhaust fumes, he sped up as I passed (like that mattered ) and then started with all the hand signals... he REALLY didn't like it when I smiled and waved back at him... he then flashed like mad when we went thru' the next village at the speed limit (I was miles ahead of him when I entered the village... am guessing he was still very much "at speed" when he went thru' it).

End of the day, the best thing to do as and WHEN it happens (not if, always WHEN), is to ignore it or smile and wave at them... if nothing else they end up wound up more than you do, which IMO if a better way to end the day (or start it), nothing worse than feeling stressed by the start/end of the day trip home.

I've put it down to the sound of my cars. Happened to me a few times in both my scoob and my 350z... I think loud cars just scare the hell out of some road users even if you are not driving dangerously. Either that or it is envy.

Easy answer is to tune your Scoob so it makes speed of light. Then any amount of full beam flashing aint gonna reach you!!

i have this sometimes but usually ignore it, one day i was having a particularly bad day, there was a battered fiesta in front driving at 10-15mph in a 30, letting every car he saw at every junction out in front of him, he was even comong to a standstill to flash cars out, we then came to an open stretch, he was up to 20 by now, so i overtook him in my old toyota surf diesel, which can be best described as slow as ****, no drama, nothing coming the other way, no junctions either side, did not cut him up, but had a rearview full of lights and gestures when i pulled back in, redmist time, i slammed the anchors and got out, the poor ****er looked like he was about to have a heart attack, he must have been about 85 and looked like moleman off the simpsons, on seeing his elderly status, my mood softened, i asked why he was flashing me, he said just saying thanks thats all, so i merely thanked him for his thanks and proceeded, old ****.

I find it better to sit well back, not on their bumper which also gives you more time to push on befor over taking. Not that you need much time in a 300bhp car though.

On a slightly different note. We all come across this on a daily basis. Do these people really think they are driving carefully and safely when there is a cue of maybe 20 cars behind them. I wonder what they actually think.

They surely cant think that they are the sensible ones driving considerably slower than the limit with all those mad drivers behind can they.

I was sat in a cue of probably close to 100 cars in Cumbria on the A590 the other week, nearly all the way from Haverthwaite to just outside Ullveston. It was some forrestry thingy, bigger than a farm vehicle, who wouldn't pull over.

Imagine how pi55ed off every one was waiting to get passed that. He got the horn for about 20 seconds when I got behind him followed by the finger when he looked round as I was sat behind him....****....

I live about 10 miles from my parents home. As you approach a new housing estate on an A road it viers into a dual carrageway with two sets of lights. For the next 1/2 mile on said A road it is 40 mph even though there are no houses as you are going away from them.

I then turn onto a B road towards my parents house that becomes a 70mph limit, guaranteed there is a rover 200 doing 30 mph for the next 2 miles every single time. And as said before because you overtake you get the lights and the gestures and the swearing. And as said before these people then continue to do one speed through a village that clearly says 30mph.

My point is that the country would cope better and traffic would move more efficiently if people stuck to the proper speed limits on all roads.

Also while im on, if you regulate your speed correctly you dont have to use your brakes that often therefore prolonging their life.

It really does annoy me that the rover 200 drivers who drive at 30mph feel that they have to brake at the entrance to every single bend!!!!!

A question for the plods/law type people. If some **** flashes his/her beams at you, say when its starting to get dark or it is dark..

And as a result of being flash blinded by on-coming traffic and the **** in question flashing/blinding you with full beams, you have an accident or worse - who's fault is that?

Is anyone to blame at all? I am thinking it's a double edged sword: on the one hand you have the argument the driver was over-taking dangerously, howver on the other hand you have an idiot who has caused a serious accident (or worse)..

People have lost their patience with one another..
