Saturday 15th December 2007

Yesterday was rest day....

Just going out the door for a 10 mile run!!!!!!!

Back from the 10 miles......

Started slow and thought this was going to take maybe at least 1 hr 45 mins?

Actually wasn't that cold and it was only the light wind which was freezing.....

Got to the halfway point and actually felt good!!!! I had loads of energy and was actually sprinting the downhill stretches.

Got to 3 miles from home and I was still feeling powerful... I started to wish that I'd tried to push it earlier as I would have set a very fast time!

Got to the last mile and it's all uphill..... it started to get harder but I still felt ok.... I started to feel like I was running on empty a little but I remembered I'd had no breakfast and only a glass of fruit juice this morning (don't try this at home kids!).

Food is fuel and I had none! Also I don't take drink with me when I run, so considering the time of day I was probably dehydrated too.

Got to the end and didn't feel bad at all!!!!!!

1hr 26 mins for 10 miles....... and could have gone faster!

Forget getting more mods for higher BHP or Torque........ this is real performance

(ok it is in my eyes lol)

Monday 24th December 2007 Continued

Well got back 1 hr 30 .... not bad but not as quick as last time.

Had to change the route last minute as it was pitch black and my normal 10 mile route is country lanes, did a route to the otherside of town and back.

Started ok but after about 3 miles I started to get seriously light-headed and started to get blurred vision!!! I was wearing too many layers as I thought it was going to be really cold but mostly probably due to the only fuel I had was half a glass of water and a slice of bread!

I was thinking about taking some short cuts and shortening the run as I was getting slower, but just as I was about to do it I started to feel better.

I picked up the pace and now decided to try the whole distance. I was now running through town and watching the town start to get ready for the mayhem later!

Eventually got home feeling good

Might take a rest day tomorrow as I have a race Boxing day

Wednesday 26th December 2007

Rest day yesterday

Well today was the Witham 5 and even though I'd done a 10 miler Monday, I felt I'd eaten too much so far to get a decent time?

Started slow and I was thinking this was going to a long one.....

I tried to hang onto the back of some people and at least keep a steady pace. After the first mile I looked at the watch and it wasn't too bad.

I kept on the back of a small group and then overtook them and started on the next pack.

I got to the end really feeling shattered and looked at the clock 37'44 a PB for 5 miles

I was happy but it was I was slightly disappointed as I think I could have gone quicker at the start.

Afternoon folks

Well had a couple of rest days and I'm back into training...

Did an 8 miler this morning... Started slow and was feeling heavy from Christmas still.

I've tried to keep running every now and came 157th in the Witham 5 out of 409 people....

As I got to halfway I started to feel good again. I started to pick up the pace and finished in 1 hr 11 mins....

1st January 2008

Happy New Year everyone

Well brought the new year in with a 2 mile jog with Little Bibo

He did really well and the only problem was he wanted to go too fast!!!!

I've never seen myself as a "pushy Dad", but I'm going to put £10 on him running for GB some day (think it's a bit late for 2012!)

After this I did a 5 mile untimed run... It's great not having to not against the clock... Even though you don't race, I always push if against the clock.

Anyway, back to work tomorrow and actually looking forward to it....
but not getting up early!

Wednesday 3nd of January 2008
Well first day at work and it's not that bad

Been quite busy catching up on things but did manage to do a run at lunch.

Decided to do the 6.5 mile Crown Run but take it easy as it was the first day back.

Started quite fast actually and even though i wasn't going mad I definitely noticed I was faster than normal.

I was on my own and as a result there was no need to push and i could take it steady.....

Well not sure if anyone has notice from my blog entries lately but I've noticed I've been getting alot faster at the ends of my runs.....

Well i looked at my watch at the top of the hill and it was 30 mins.... not bad considering i wasn't being pushed! Well I kicked on but decided not to look at the watch until the finish....

I got to a mile from home and i got passed by a friend of mine who was running the same route and started after me.... Well he is the faster runner at work! I decided to see if i could at least keep him in my sights and managed to do this till the end.

Looked at the watch.... 51'51 at PB by miles!!!!! I was really surprised!

Also.... got a cheque from my work today for £250 to Heart UK! that takes me over all my targets i ever had .....

Friday 4th January 2008

Well I'm been and done it!!!! Last night I finally took the plunge and joined a running club

I'm now officially a "Springfield Strider" and can be seen pounding the pavements of Chelmsford every Thursday night!

I've tried to keep myself from doing this for sometime now, mostly because my wife keeps taking the mickey! But they offer a lot of advice and support, I also get free entry to a lot of races and best of all, they run a coach to the London Marathon

Anyway... walking into the hall on my first night went slightly better than my first night with the ESC.... I actually managed to speak to someone!

The night basically consisted of a 5 mile run which was surpossed to be a relaxing jog..... I decided to try and make a good impression so joined the front runners and off I went.

After about 2 miles the leaders started to pull away and I was starting to get passed by a couple of people.... I did start to catch a couple of people and even passed one or two

In the end I recorded a time of 38'34, which was reasonably fast for me.... next time I really need to take it easy as it's surposed to be a training run, also never run after eating a large Chicken pie with a bucket full of mash and gravy before running!

Anyway, today I was aching, so went out with a couple of people than are only starting to run.... This was good for me as i could just chill out and take it easy.

Lots of running planned for the weekend.....

Maybe I'll run the Poser Cruise again...... NOT

Sunday 6th January 2008

After taking yesterday off, I joined the Springfield Striders for a 2 hour run this morning. There was a group of mixed abilities and if anyone got left, we would loop back and pick them back up.... this carried on for the whole route.

I took it easy as this was steady marathon training, but soon I found I too was looping back to pick up the back markers.... There was a little lady who must of been 40 + and she was plodding along at the back for the whole run and we must of run the route twice for her, BUT what ant effort by her!!!!! she never gave up even though it must of felt bad to her.... That took real guts.

We finished just under 2 hrs and I think we had done half marathon distance.....? Will have to check that.

Anyway, the above proves anyone can run, so get those trainers on!

Monday 7th January 2008

Well was still a little sore from the long run yesterday and could have taken the day off but decide to take a relatively easy 5 miler....

Didn't get dragged into a race and although I didn't want to go fast, I actually feel worse sometimes going slow..... It's like i know I can go faster and I don't like slower times!!!!

Anyway 43'21... slow when you consider PB of 37'44. Could have stopped for a cup of tea on route!

Entered three races today.... Benfleet 15 miler, Gt Wakering Half and Brentwood Half marathon.

Also bit the bullet and brought a GPS watch!!!! running mods.... what next! modified ECU's?

Wednesday 9th January 2008

Well yesterday I did a 6 mile crown style run.

I was still sore from the weekend and the 5 miles on Monday as i haven't had time to recover.

Well I thought I'd take it easy but again as i was running I began to think I could be quite fast? The weather was real pants with high winds and hard raid and the footing was terrible.

Got to the top in 31'30.... about a minute slower than PB, but the second half is faster so i thought i had a good chance to make the time up.....

Got to the end and the legs were feeling heavy... 53'56.... not a bad time considering the conditions......

Rest day today

Thursday 10th January 2008

Well It's Thursday and it's race day.....

No rain today, but boy, I haven't seen wind like that since the morning after the last Army Curry night!

Anyway... Legs felt ok at the start but after about 500m, got stuck behind a load of people walking slow....... after I'd managed to make myself popular with them, I started to plod along with the wind so hard at times, it was like I was on a treadmill running but getting nowhere!

I was expecting a slow time and to get passed early and kept thinking I was going to be slow... Through the woods the wind hit again. This time it was from the side.... smashing into me, making it hard to keep on your feet.

I told myself that the wind had to be behind me at some point and then i would make some time up? Well I got to the 2 miles to go point and as i ran through a gate I noticed someone behind me.

I tried to open the pace, but I expected to get passed at any time. Well I never did get passed and looked at my watch... 39'43, with the really high winds, that was not bad considering I did the same route Monday in 43'21

Monday 14th January 2008

Well sorry for the delay in posting, but been busy

Friday I had a little bit of tendonitis in my ankle and even though i could run on it, I decided to take it easy and give it a chance to heel...... (get it!)

Anyway, because i was away Armying for the weekend, I was going to do my long run Fri evening, but because of the foot, i gave it a miss.... instead I decided it was time I hit the gym for some upper body work.... well after 30 mins on Friday... I still hurt today!!!!

Saturday, I was on the firing range then I was gassed with CS in a chamber (nice) and finally my day ended with a CFT (Combat Fitness Test), 8 miles in 2 hrs carrying 15 Kg.

Sunday was surposed to be a 15 mile walk, but only ended up as 12 miles.... This was carry a little weight but was medium pace....

Well today, I sore all over but I'm due to do an easy 5 miles.... I'll try and take it slow and see how it goes?

Did 5 mile woods run at a steady pace..... terrible conditions 41'17

Well the man flu is kicking in!!!!!! Feeling like a zombie and have no energy!

Still can't afford a days rest!!!!! At least the weather was better today...

I really wanted to go fast today as it was lovely outside and actually started nicely..... Well thats about as good as it got

I quickly started to slow and I was starting the get the light dizziness that I've experienced a couple of times in the past.

I was going to cut it short but decided just to keep a steady pace but not go mad as i couldn't breath properly.

Ended doing a mixed of routes and I think it was around 5 miles.... The watch read 44'28.... very slow.

I spoke to another very experienced runner later and he said he too has the dreaded man flu and he ran even slower.... I'm glad it's not just me that's having a bad day.

Friday 18th January 2008

Well yesterday was running club night..... I'd rested in the day hoping that the time off would give my pain in the bum a chance to calm down..... (that's the actaul pain in the bum!!)

I decided to go down the gym as i really need to work on upper body fitness.

If anyone know's a good way to get better at press-ups quickly (no steriods please!), let me know!!!!

Then went running with the club... I was suffering from the man flu and also worried the strain I had might kick up, so I decided to take it really easy and slow..... We do a 5 mile route every week and I slowly jogged out of the club and settled down into a slow jog.

After a few mins I decided to go a little faster but i could start to feel the pain in my bum so slowed down again..... I actually still managed to pass people and I noticed that the pain would get to a point but not get any worse? As a result i sped up slightly.....

Got to the finished without being out of breath at all.... 41'12!!!! I was really surprized.....not a bad time for a slow steady pace.

I finished the night with a Deep Tissue Massage.... OUCH is all I'll say!

Found out my bum pain is a pulled Hamstring which at least isn't torn, so I'll continue the training and keep the pace down though.

Satuarday 19th January 2008 (continued)

Well back from morning run...

Did 7 following training plan: 7 miles warm-up then 3 miles steady.

I was slighty concerned how the hamstring would hold? But after 5 miles it was hold up well.

I got to 7 miles and I could feel a dull pain in the bum but nothing too bad...

I picked up the pace but after a mile I had another problem in bottom dept!!!!! Worried I might get a different type of "run" happening, I had to slow as I was wobbling too much lol

Finished 1hr 32 mins.... slow but not too mad considering taking it easy.

Monday 21st January 2008

Well did lot's of running over the weekend and so though I'd take it easy and do a slow 5 miler today.....

Well that was the plan.... I stupidly asked a couple of regular if i could tag on with them and off we went at what seemed 100 mph!!!!

Well I started to think I'd made a BIG mistake and wondered how these guy's could keep this pace? I got a about 2 miles and I was a couple of paces behind. A mile later and they were in the distance, there was no way I could keep up...

I got passed by another two people and I slowed to what seemed walking pace I got to the top of the hill to see one of the guys I'd passed stopped and having a drink. I plodded past and was determined to at least give it a good effort as I could.

I looked at my watch and it was 31 mins.... not a bad time and I started to think the fast start must have helped....? This gave me a second wind and I started to give it 110% lol

I got to a long straight and far in the distance I saw the original group I started with.... This gave me an even bigger goal and i pushed hard.

Well I never caught them, but I was about 30 seconds behind them.... NOT BAD.

51'11, a fast time.... not sure if it's a PB, but must be close?

Well yes it was a PB!!!!! 51'51 was best time previously...

Ran the 5 mile "thursday race" route. 42'30. Not bad considering was cruising and only really started to push for the last mile.

A 6 miler today.
