It's quite staggering isn't it? How they treat their Customers?
Maybe I've been lucky so far, but normally sense and compromise is reached and a lot of grief is avoided ...... They don't want a court case, I don't want a court case - it's time, it's hassle and it's going to cost them plenty.
I'm still bewildered by their attitude, they send me a letter admitting the TV has a fault and then allow it to go to court - what on earth is their defence? manufacturers specs don't enter into the Sale of Goods Act

People are going shopping - they need reminding about the crap Customer service they can expect if they buy anything from Currys, Dixons or PCWorld.

Popped into the Sony Centre today ... asked them what their policy is regarding a flashing pixel.
I was expecting some kind of debate or issue, guess what?? NOTHING!! Their answer?
"We would replace the TV instantly, Sir - if it was just 23 weeks old when it went wrong there would be no ifs, no buts, no problem, no issue - you would have a new replacement TV"
Why are Currys still in business, when just about every other retailer beats them when it comes to customer care?
I was expecting some kind of debate or issue, guess what?? NOTHING!! Their answer?

Pete, Like I said in my earlier post I will NEVER Buy from the Currys group ever again. And thats been 12yrs......
I purchased my Sony 36" telly from The Sony Centre.
Until now I had forgetten it had to be replaced when 3 months old as it developed a fault. I cant remember the fault, I cant remember it being replaced as there was no fuss and no questions
When I change to a Plasma or LCD it will be another Sony, and it will be from my local Sony Centre... They also price match which is nice

Yes, they price match which takes the price advantage away from the Currys Group ........................ I hate them with a vengence!!
Some of the people working there must be decent people, just carrying out 'Policy'?
They are just too big to extract an issue and deal with it on the one-to-one level.

Excellent I can rest assured you won't be using Currys, Dixons or PCWorld to hand your money too?
I've been quoted £45 for a TV Engineer to come out and have a look at it - I would like an Independant Report to save me taking the TV into the CourtRoom.
Any TV Repairers on here know what I will need?

Cheers Les
Just reading the legal bumph and expert reports and witnesses should not be sought unless the judge directs. That suits me.
Anyone any great ideas about how to 'present' the fault to the judge without taking the actual TV into court? A photo doesn't show the damned thing flashing, a video would not do it justice (unless I can show it on the Courts 42" Plasma
Any good ideas?
I guess Currys have a resident expert solicitor who does the 'rounds' of County Courts? They are so bad at Customer Service I suppose it would pay them to have their own panel of solicitors?

Currys have called it 'A Purity Error' in a letter to me.
An Error is a fault, a fault is covered under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended.
A 'Purity Error' is a fault in materials and, maybe, workmanship - covered under the LGE 12month Guarantee .... under the exclusions a pixel fault is not excluded!
I'm just going down to the County Court this afternoon to start the ball rolling.

I m not aware that flat panel screens suffer from purity faults, this is the problem with CRTs, as electrons are accellerated towards the shadow mask, which becomes magnetised, deflect the electron beam off line onto a different coloured phosphur.
Do it online, its quicker.

I'm guessing that Currys don't know what the F they are on about!
Remember the 'Tech Guys' Engineers are visiting homes and looking at peoples TV's and Toasters - they would not be able to hold their own in an Electronic Engineering Design Office, I will eat them alive
I'm guessing the purity error means that the gases are energizing at differing levels? To give the bright green falshing effect?
I will ask them for the manufacturers spec in court and ask them to explain why it is an acceptable fault - because a fault is what it is
Small Claims Court - yes may do it online, do I send the papers into the court just before the hearing or when applying online??

Corrrrr - 8,000 views!
If that is 8,000 individuals and just 500 choose to buy elsewhere rather than in Currys, Dixons or PCWorld for their Xmas goods then DSG Retail have probably lost between £25,000 - £250,000 in Retail Sales!!
Posting the same story on Review Sites may have also had the same impact, with the same figures involved ..... has that wally a few pages back printed this off and sent it in again? I do hope so .........
Good move Currys!!!! Frigging idiots

When my Thomson CRT went bang, we got a Samsung from Currys, it was distorting at the edge, their engineer came out, took one look and said it was faulty and recommended we went for something different as it was a common fault. Next day they picked it up from us and we went in store and picked up an LCD. Personally I have no issue with their service, amazing the difference if you make the engineer a cup of tea when they arrive

The Engineers were not in the house long enough to drink a cup of tea!!

I WANT MY DAY IN COURT!!!!!! I want to see Currys squeal and squirm and be forced into doing what they should have done as a matter of common courtesy - look after their Customers!
On the online form it does not ask you what Court you want the hearing heard in, well it hasn't as yet - I'm just completing the particulars at the moment.
Maybe it's best to do in person at the actual Court you wish the hearing to be heard in?
How much is it going to cost Currys to defend this action? Admin + Solicitor + Attendance at the Court hearing + the payment they could have made months ago and avoided all of this + interest on the money they will be paying me + my Court costs?
They really are stupid as well as being unable to conduct Customer Service as it should be

maybe they think they have a good chance of winning?
maybe they dont realise how stubborn you are being over this?
mahoosive corporate company. be suprised if anyone outside the complaints/repairs department even know you exist. just another unsatisfied customer to them out of 1000s and 1000s pete. sorry but its the truth.
even if they cough up a couple grand in costs to you, court bla bla, thats nothing to them financially. even with the possible loss of custom, their tv/magazine ads will see the poverty stricken lured in on buying electricals on their "0% interest for 3/6/12 month" deals.
sad, but true dear boy

they have a solicitor on their books who they pay a salary. If he wasn't defending the company against you he'd be doing some photocopying, so no plus cost.
It's a percentage game. Hundreds of customers, put off by their attitude, put up with substandard goods. Your settlement equals 2p on every telly they sell.
1GB SD cards
Currys £22.99
Dabs £9.55
