Why would you actually want to host such a forum on this bbs?
There's hundreds of forums out there, I'm sure people who want to rant and whinge at each other could use some of those. I can't believe the advertising revenue from such a tiny number of people is worth the hassle TBH.
Nobody's going to pay to upgrade one particular account just to use it to argue - they know they're risking getting it banned, and that costs real money.

You're missing the point, its not to just "argue" in... we already have FC for that (and you'd last all of about 3 seconds in there) ... its to allow a separate forum where users can express themselves WITHOUT getting infracted or moaned at every five seconds by someone/some users who doesn't get the joke, fails to understand the banter.... or is genuinely offended certain terms, phrases or opinions
And this isn't about money or advertising, its about creating an environment that allows all the different personalities a forum to express themselves....

Why Charge?
a) Just being completely straight with you here.. why should we do it for free? We would rather not have the hassle at all. It will take more time, agro, and legal risk to allow it - this costs money.
b) If people don't have to pay for it, they don't value it as much. If it were free, I guarantee it wouldn't be used as much by those who use it... it just might be that, if paid for, less actual people use it.

The problem..
My guess is that the main culprits we're trying to satisfy here, don't actually want somewhere to have great banter.. they ACTUALLY want somewhere they can irritate people and "be naughty".
All this "say something like a naughty boy then ... <----- watch this space !!" .. its so 12 year old its unreal. My concern is that we're trying to do something that people are asking for, but they don't really actually want it.
They want to do this in a place where everyone else sees it, and where they get the attention, and **** off the mods, and get to slag people / scoobynet off, etc. This is proven by the regular failure of spin off forums such as "the tent". They still come back eventually, despite bragging that they never would.
-
I think that, while I thought this was a pretty good idea at the time, I was probably wrong.
"ScoobyNet Towers" will have to do without the £100 or so that would be generated by the people who would use this new forum (what a shame, as that would have really pushed up our flotation value and made me personally another million on top of all the billions I make from scoobynet on a daily basis ).
-
Instead, I'm going to put a lot f work into REALLY decided what the community as a vast majority want, and vigorously support those at the expense of the minority.
I was attempting to give this minority a bit of a home / place where their rules are acceptable, but I don't think that's what they want.. they want a place where their rules are NOT acceptable, otherwise its not fun.
