Question

(NB - those with the "cheap" mstations that came from 6th planet please make sure you order a V1 home bay kit not V2)

What's the difference?

Check out the mstation catalogue at www.caraudiodirect.com for the main differences. The key thing w.r.t. docking bays is that on the v1, the connector for the car's wired remote is on the mStation HD unit, terminated in a 26-way mini IDC, so that when you dock/undock in-car, you need to connect/disconnect the car wired remote.

On the v2, this connector's evolved into a d-type connector, located on the car docking bay. Much better. Not £250 better though!

Other than that, as I understand it the differences are slightly different controls on the mstation drive unit (black buttons, arrows instead of a circle), backlight on the car wired remote and the satisfaction of paying £450+.

Well i've got my Mstation, found it on an internet auction site, brand new and boxed for £100

Recommend those considering buying keep an eye on this below, this will search ebay for any Mstations were sellers are willing to ship to UK.

I got mine from the Netherlands.

Blimey! Nice one Peter! It's not just cars that are cheaper in the Netherlands then.

Hi folks, i only bumped into the mstation threads this morning (doh missed the boat again).

But an IT wholsaler that i hold an account with has bought some of these from a liquidation auction and wants £250 per unit (shipped). I know this is more than the ealier threads but i just wanted some reaction from you guys as to whether you think there worth it? (as i notice the other places are no longer listing them for sale).

(my only catch is my pc hasnt got any spare drive bays left, so will have to look at buying an external drive kit to wire it into)

If i can get enough orders i can get the price down a little, will need 5+ though, but that would get us about £15 off.

So how do you hardwire the unit in?

and once hardwired does this mean you have turn the headunit off and the mstation on?

I liked the idea of the fm modulator just so i could see my fancy graphics tho was unsure how you operate volume etc. (tho i understand using the modulator can lead to alternator whine).

Interesting comment on the raid controller card, how do you get power to the drive tho?
I was thinking of getting an ide to ub external box and doing it that way

Wink

There was an excellent thread a while ago about installing the mStation in your car, see below

Look Here

Still haven't figured out how to display this as a proper link.

With regards the power to the IDE drive, the Y Power cable that you can get from any Computer shop will split a single power cable into two power connectors.

Hope this helps

Ed

Edited to say figured out how to make the link work.

two words....

HOME BAY
..for those of you that have Mstations, I highly recommend the home bay - little midi sized seperate with permanent power \ phono outs + usb (handy if like me you had to remove *something* to get it in your PC) that you can drop your mstation into.

Retails at about £150 - not cheap but saves messing around with CD's at home.

(not connected or advertising in any way - just pleased customer - bought mine from procell media, guys there were happy souls)

and if you've got a v1 get your home bay order in quick. They'll not be available soon (allegedly) and procell have about 5 left.

Cheers

Lee (not connected with procell, mstation, reality, etc).

{edited as allegedly's hard to spell. Allegedly.)
