I got one. Bloody brilliant, get it hard wired in, don't use the FM modulator.

As for drive bays, I've got DVD and CD Writer, + 1 free but no IDE or power spare, so removed the DVD while I transferred all my cd's

Mattw

Get yourself an UDMA100-RAID PCI Controller Card for £25
A good link for one of these is www.rlsupplies.co.uk/item31.htm

Also get yourself a Y Power cable from PC World. That should get you up and running with all of your components installed in the PC.

That's what I did with my mStation.

Cheers

Cheers for the link edd.

I understood what you meant with the Y cable, but just didnt fancy having to patch about power cables together to get it outside the case (as im mounting my hd externally so was interested in the pci raid card idea).

I would have thought that in order to fit the mStation into an external HDD Kit you would have to remove the HDD from the mStation itself. As for power to the HDD if it was installed in an external HDD kit then power is supplied from a mains socket the same as any other external PC component.

Cheers

The one i have read about on a forum on mstation (that i now cant find grrrr) shows either a 5.25 or 3.5 external ide hard drive case, which then converts to usb.(didnt need to remove HD from mstation either)
was about 70$

sounds most tempting.

Sounds good all though is power supplied down the USB cable or does it still require an external power source.

Either way it sounds like you are having as much fun as I did when trying to figure out how to install the mStation along side all the other components in my PC.

Good Luck

My Mstation is hard wired into the car through to a Kenwood KRC579 unit(My01 replacing crap double din unit). The head unit required a KCA210 aux switch box (£70). The mstation and cd changer plug into the unit which allows me to select cd or aux on the head unit.

Obviously you get a better sound quality, and can still use Traffic info on the head unit while listening the Mstation. You can only do this if your Head Unit supports Aux input.

What's really cool, is if you switch the mstation off, it restarts where you left it just like a cd changer. However I notice it tends to pick the same songs in Random mode.

THe 5.25 case i've found allows a 5.25 device to be fitted (wonder ifits deep enough tho..... does mstation sit further back than a cd rom for example?) and then converts ide to usb.

usb can supply power as well, tho this box has external supply (which is probably a better option).

all i need to do know is see if my head unit has aux in

Pete

What's your head unit? Very few head units have a 'clean' aux in, however most of the aftermarket manufacturers do produce aux-in adapters that plumb into the CD control bus and provide a pair of phonos.

Cheers

Lee. (Still waiting for his Sony XA-107 to arrive so he can do exactly this!)

Blimey - I'm Mr. Duplication today!

Pete - w.r.t. depth, you should be fine. You'll be mounting the mStation PC bay in the external enclosure, and the mStation subsequently in its PC bay. The PC bay is standard 5.25 form factor.

Cheers

Lee.

My head unit is a Kenwood KMD-PS971R have been troughing the net but cant find a detailed enough spec to tell me how you go about connecting to that headunit.

even emailed car audio direct (who sell mstation) about 5 days ago, but no reply.

As I understand your unit does not have a seperate Aux in however it does have a DIN plug for an external CD Changer. It is possible that you can plug in an adapter that will change the Din plug to an Aux in for two RCA plugs.

The best bet is to speak to Kenwood on 01923 816444 and ask if they supply such a converter.

I've got exactly the same head unit - you want the S210 as already said.

50 quid on the Tottenham Court Road. Some people (caraudiodirect included) wanted silly money and wouldn't play game.

They had it in stock.

Fitting is a breeze. It needs to go between your cd changer and the cd changer cable at either end. Then you run an RCA from the Mstation box to the S210 box and you're away.

Nick.
