wow
Thanks for the tip that Baileys works on wives (is everyones wife the major obsticle to modding Imprezas?).
We have been married 30 years this Jan, so I'm trying to find some demon trick for an Axis 2.5/ppg etc during 2008.
If I don't get my way with her I'll blame you! (my way being a big cheque...)
On the suspension front first thing to calculate is the purpose of the car. Is it strictly a track car or track road or road track?
Too stiff will be murder on the road and may not benefit the car on track either. In MHO the rates for a New age is 60/50 with 22/24mm bars.
Get rid of all the rubber and fit a rear subframe lock kit for track orientated use.
Make sure your rack is a quick ratio one.(a very good mod, you can steer the car into/out of amazing turns without taking your hands of the wheel .Adds to the go kart feeling)
Then you need to fit adjustable top mounts to the front at least that allow max CASTER. The best I know are Noltecs, but the new Whiteline ones look the ticket too. Add camber bolts to the rear. You should get away with the fronts. With these top mounts you do not need ALK rear bushes on the front lower arms. I would fit spherical ball type top mounts.
Last of all find someone who actually knows how to align the car.
I would travel miles to go to Powerstation and Curtis.
He has such a wide experience of track/hillclimb and road cars it's untrue.
Add the cherry on the top and have the car cornerweighted for driver or driver/passenger track use. It does make a difference.
Using Perrin or Whiteline matters little as I know Whiteline are trouble-free and the Perrins do look good. The addition of grease nipples etc does add something worth while.
Forgot one last bit, and that's a good front lower brace. They will work well when there is no rubber in the suspension and just poly bushes.
On bushes I would keep to road grade as the track grade are rock solid and my not forgive any binding you might get in the moving parts after alignment. High friction in the suspension is not a good idea.
The adjustment of damping is a serious matter as those springs will only do the best job if you can control them accuratly. You need to talk to a Tein technician. Sometimes contacting the tech dept directly pays off (ie in Japan). I did this with Whiteline in Australia 5 years ago and got to their senior development engineer who actually knew what a hillclimb was! (rare then, common knowledge now).
He was very helpful indeed, and everything I've gained over the years is based on his advice.
Wish me luck with the Baileys
Graham.

would you bother with the rear subframe lock kit for the road ?
i am defo getting the car realigned and no probs going to powerstation, been before so not bothered about distance.
were would i get the quick ratio steering rack from ?
the baileys works well for me if not credit card. if that dont work give in and watch top gear on the telly. that deffo gets me in the garage. lol
cheers mick
do you think i should change the ARB to 22mm or wait and see what it drives like mick
and yes wifes dont get the modding bug at all. mine is based on bribes/shopping/drink/credit cards/begging

The braided fuel lines look well. Although I'm surprised you've not used an uprated fuel reg.
Couldn't believe how much it cost when I got the bill for the parts. The anodised elbows and fitting certainly add up.
Isn't cutting the braided hoses a complete and utter ball ache. I use a dremel and a jubilee clip.
Anyway here's a pic of mine with parallel fuel rails supplied by Zak at Mocom.

The rear subframe lock kit ties the frame tighter to the chassis stopping the rear squirming around when under 'duress'.
A stiff chassis is a happy one..
Racks can be had from David at Welcome to the API website
This year for a while i tried a 27mm front and my 24mm rear bars. This goes against the grain, but it was strangely 'ok' with the rear on stiffest. Trouble was the car would pick up the rear wheel on cornering and even with a mega tight rear diff I left time at the tight bends.
For me, the 22/24 combo is great.
Try yours first before starting with other parts.
My wife knows ALL the tricks and she actually likes motorsport, but bulks when the numbers get BIG, and that is where I am atm on my hillclimber.
Silly hobby this!

your advice is greatly appreciated and will be followed. i will try the 25mm on its softest setting and the rear on the hardest. also play around with the EDFC and see what i get. if its bad i ghange the front ARB.
my wife is cute when it comes to my car. but great news she has decided she wants a scoob of her own. oh how sweet life is lol

mods
my mod list is getting out of hand. its like growing on its own. putting a steering rack in it. new short ratio job sounds the dogs. hardest thing im having is keeping the standard very high. the pipe conversion to full braided hoses. it would have been so simple to get a samco set. but just didnt think it would look good enough. got a nice fuel reg and gauge to fit then will do the oil filter block coversion. so i can see where the hoses will run for the top mount oil cooler.
the bloody hoses are a nightmare to cut blood and bits of finger all over.
cant get in the garage at the moment. so scanning the net for parts. something different. you know top quality. anything thats pushes the spec in the right direction.
will be coming over to see you shortly in the new year desperate to have a look at that little project you have. lol

year later
its been put back a year because of the spec getting into biblical proportions.
i have that much stuff to fit. tons to order. make sure it all sits right as i thought the car should look. not just engine bay but the whole car in total . everyday i see something that will improve it. change the overhall feel. its a show car but i want to use it as well. wifes getting a scoob so it wont get used that much, but still needs to have the go as well as the show
cheers

you set the current standard craig and your proving a hard act to follow. neils car looks awesome and is going to be a very tough act to follow as well. thats why the extra year. mine is going to be exceptional, fingers crossed, but trying to raise the standard is very hard and very expensive. i will be at this years nbo and will be tapping on your shoulder for a chat. i also want to get a really good look at your car again. do me a favour and tell neil to bloody calm down that cars is the nuts lol

sponsers
absolutely over the moon, i have finally got up to revolution and got to talk to glen. i have at last a north eastern company name to put on the side of the car, i have sponsers up and down the country. but north east support has been poor. so thanks glen i will be seeing you keith and dave on a very regular basis. first buy tar-ox twelve pots for the fronts and then the list is endless. lightweight pulley sets. wheels/tyres realignment castor camber.etc etc this car is going to have the best.
does anyone know if any other brake/clutch caps from other makes fit the newage. before me and the mrs spend several hours in the local scrapyard.
thanks again glen see you soon
cheers
mick.

right first thing thanks to keith at revolution for trying everywhere to get a decent cap for my Forge PAS tank. cant get one so swapped for an evo one with a nice billet top. pics later. also decided the brake issue on my car. tar-ox 12 pots on the front with a 360 disc. 10 pot rear disc all colour coded. thanks to glen at revolution. order will be placed as soon as possible, when i am ready to fit them, dont want them hanging about until car is ready to roll out of garage.
also need to sort out the GDF stuff i want as well. another list on its way
cheers mick
back in the garage today pics later.

back in the garage
right in the garage again got a new forge PAS tank. nice billet top.
as you can see its nicer than the scooby version.
its the one in the middle no top. the only problem i have is were to put the other one fit is different. off a evo 6
right time to get some more stainless pipework on it looks great but painful to fit.
radiator overflow
brake servo pipe
look really neat
new alloy header tank
header tank pipes
right minus 1 in this garage my bloody hands are freezing so back tommorrow and sort out the PAS tank might end up the otherside of the engine
cheers mick

back in the garage again
bloody cold but i have got to get on. job to do, finish stainless pipework and fit intercooler pipework
leaving plastic on to protect it until im finished
dump vavle bracket on at last
no decision on what vavle im using probally the GDF one you can turn up and down
getting tight under bonnet
finally made some fittings for the breather. if you cant get any sense. make them yourself.
need some decent clips. but other than that ok
the cloth is for the blood of the cuts with the stainless
still a tight fit even harder trying not to mark it!
its all part of the fun getting there
wow lots of pipes got to find somewhere for the buddy club condenser and PAS tank.
got a few rub issues to sort out a nip down B/Q will sort that out
deffo need some better hose clips. but pleased with the progress considering the temp in the garage.
got the red samco hose for the dump vavle. cheers AET
still a tight fit even though i know all the pipes fit well
the blue fitting sticking up in the middle is a stand in
the intercooler is a good fit
getting there my fingers are going blue. so packing in soon
said it was tight. even worse with the stainless hoses. but it will look the nuts when done.
right thats its for now cold has won. its snowing on me. so im off to the house.
cheers mick.
thanks to keith at revolution i will be up to see you this week.
