(I would still have spoken to the supplier, before posting there is a problem, but there you go)
I assumed you would have been building the engine at Zak's using his clean room and one of his engine stands. Building it on your drive or in the garage just does seem to be in keeping with you?
Although would of course save having to keep making the trip to North Weald.

I'm really pleased that the crank issue has been resolved, and you will now be able to finally get on with the build.

Initailly i thought i was going to do it at Zaks but after some thought, i decided it will be built in my garage. Only the actual swapwill happen on my drive.
Its exactly that reason that im loathed to build it at Zaks. I have to drive over an hour everytime i want to do something on the car.
Yes it is a whole load more agro for me and space is exceptionally tight but as you know how time consuming an engine build is, i really dont need to add to that with a pointless 2 hours there/back journey.

Picked up one of these today. Im working on getting a professional one too, but at least this allows me to get the block mounted up and start getting things going.
Could get a small interst going in rebuilds lol

Lol... build yourself a concrete type shed, with clean area, stands etc for all the work.
Work days consist of getting up and going downstairs...
That would be the dream
Where do you do all your prototype builds? Or do you just design them?

Dont matter now fella, these ones are only cheap so im not too worried.
I was looking at professional ones from Churchill and Benco and youre looking at £1500+ for a pukka one.
Id need to do a shedload of builds to make one of those worth while lol

Cleared some room today, gotta bite the bullet soon and start stripping the motor out of the car
I'll start by stripping most of the stock motor in the car. All parts will be photgraphed, bagged and tagged with locations and hardware.
I want to try and refurbish as may parts, bracket etc as possible so it will all be as minty mint as i can make it when it all goes back together.
Then i'll need to borrow and engine crane and have the motor out.
Remember, this is no concours car, just a one man band doing what i do.
Ready to rock

As promised Area 52 delivered me a replacement crank today and a quick look shows that all is well.
Really impressed with their service and that they delivered on time without fuss.
Cant recomend them enough, Cheers Mike, Jase & Tracy

Glad to report that my crank has been checked, polished and measured. All clearances are within spec. It was then hot washed and now cooling before it will be oiled, bagged and sealed ready for build.
I'll be stripping the old one before the new one is built. Will post pics as i go, bare with me

Frayz,
I know your not interested in figures, but when it's all done will you be getting any approximated power figures.
Will be interesting for all following your threads

Target is in my mind of a combined figure of 900 mate.
Be that 450bhp with 450lbsft or any combination ie 430bhp with 470lbs ft.
Either way the car must be solid, useable and witha good spread of power/torque. Its all about the area under the graph for me with good response and manners.
Honestly, I think it can be done without too much fuss.
At the moment the turbo has a 7cm exhaust housing which is ideally more suited to the 2ltrs. Personally i want to swap to the larger 8cm exhaust housing which will give us much better peak power and IMO better mid to top characteristics. Zak is determind to test the 7cm and swap at a later date but me being me and only wanting to do it once wants to go with the 8cm from the outset.
This is what the car will eventually have anyway so id rather do things once.
If the Green really isnt doing the business then i am already looking at going rotated.
This would undoubtedly be for a GT30 as IMO its the best turbo for a built 2.5 without question. But then incurs the additional cost of a new up and downpipe, an external wastegate and obviously the turbo. Not to mention the plumping required for the FMIC and suchlikes.

I dont think it is possible frayz - i am pretty sure the compressor housing is changed. There is the shrouded inlet for starters but I believe it is more fundamental that that. Jase knows for sure.
It is a rather special sound and performance from it though - way different to the original green. I am hoping to get mine onto the rollers shortly to see what it is pushing in this spec. Who knows, it may do 1000 combined.... if it doesnt then it certainly feels nice and that is what counts.
Your target of 900 combined will be hit quite comfortably with your build
without having to resort to rotated set-ups and the expense of those changes.

Apparantly FP have stopped doing the porting on the shroud on the HTA as apparantly they decided it wasnt needed?
This is only of recent though as ive heard from the guys on the NASIOC ?

Hmmm, wonder if its worth swapping?
I really dont want to do any more messing about with it. Once ive built it id rather fit everything up, have it mapped and then just enjoy it.
It seems the cars spends more time in development having things changed and tested that im not actually getting to enjoy it. I want it done, finalised and finished so i can get some proper use out of it.

Weight loss via the squidgy organic matter in the drivers seat is a given btw
