Not if he reads the top hole advice given on SN

As I keep saying "cash never offends"

Its also the fact that cheque's are so ingrained in our lives, yet money transfers are fairly new (to me anyway). Natural caution, but as you point out, illogical.

I know people who will never give their credit card details over the internet.

Which is quite sensible.

Yes main sites like Amazon should have decent security in place.

But I bought some printer bits from an internet firm which I knew quite well using card and telephone. Within 2 weeks the card had been used by some manky foreign student to pay off his London congestion card fines (3 x £150), a creidt card bill, his student fees and a few other things. £1500 in total. I think he may have worked for a sister company that processed payments for the internet company which I used. All because he had my card details and didn't need a PIN number if he used the card by phone. I did get the money back eventually but what a hassle. Cops didn't want to know even though I gave them a name and rough address (which I got from his college). So I'm pretty careful about who gets my card details. dl

Les - every time you pay a bill by cheque you are giving total strangers your bank details, and signature.
Thats a good point of course. Probably why I don't use cheques anymore except to people I know.

I find it quite strange that some people refuse to give credit card details over the internet, yet they will quite happily give credit card details over the phone

Tell him to send the cash via courier. If he won't then just tell him the deal is off. Simple really.
