How do you do a money transfer and is it safe.
Hi,
Selling some goods to a guy in Spain and he wants to do a money transfer. He says he cant do a cheque as he's in Spain. Do i need to give him my bank details,is it safe to do so and is there any way he can reverse it.
Its for 80 quid.

For just 80 quid I'd ask him to mail you a bunch of Euros. Or I'd have thought he could send you a Euro cheque which you bank and get charged by your bank.
Wire transfer is a hassle and you have to send him more than just your account details. IBAN numbers etc which your bank can give you. Then they will charge you for all this. Safe enough if you can be arsed with all the fuss.

You need your IBAN. Should be on your statements. Won't cost you anything, perfectly safe
International bank transfers are much more common in other countries where it is free to do them....unlike in the UK where it usually costs £20/25 to send one!

Everyone is so suspicious of internet fraud now that you won't be able to pay by any means soon without someone thinking you're trying to rip them off

The only way he could get his money back once the funds were in your account would be if your bank facillitated the transfer.

"important bank detail"
its about time schools started teaching some real world skills before they let kids out on the street.
the amount of people that think your account number is classifed info is amazing!

So its pretty safe to do a money transfer with someone abroad that you know nothing about.

From recent experiences I have had where an account I have no cheque book for, no montly paper statement and no card had £500 taken. I have learnt to be careful. No way at all I would hand out bank details to someone I don't know in a foreign Just for the record I was out of school a fair few years ago and I was taught to look after my money.
Hate tossers like you making statement like that - if you dont like advice my don't take it. That's my opinion.

Unless you had previously signed a direct debit mandate and forgotten about it?

Sure you've sorted this but yes, cery common in the EU.
I had to do one recently for some accomodation near nurburgring the B&B sent me a long list of stuff but all it needed was the account name, IBAN No. Account No and amount.
Cost me a tenner for a NatWest Relay payment but also cost her £8.50 in conversion charges etc. If you do it make sure he ticks the "pay all charges" (or spanish equivalent) or you will be down on your money.
5t.

The IBAN number is provided in addition to the bank details. But as I said the simplest method is simply to mail cash (registered) or send a cheque which will be made out in Euros and banked with one form to complete. dl
Les - every time you pay a bill by cheque you are giving total strangers your bank details, and signature.

Thanks for the advice. I've decided against it even though it flies in the face of logic. Its also the fact that its from abroad and he insists on it, when a cheque or cash is what i'd prefer.
