Prius - KILL it!
#31
I'd also heard that for "cradle to grave" CO2 costs, something like a Jeep Wrangler was the best, and the Priius(sp) was the worst. THat was either on the telly, or in a motoring mag - sure it was the telly, but can't remember
I'd also like to see some information on this, but like global warming, it'll probably hard to get an objective opinion.

It was indeed a Jeep Wrangler - as reported by CAR Magazine

However, putting that to one side - if you really obtained 16mpg after you supposedly "drove one for a day", then there was something seriously wrong - you didn't forget to disengage the (foot operated) parking brake by any chance did you

Yes I know it is an LCD screen however given your first post I assumed I was dealing with a simpleton (as if you knew so much you would know it gives a clear read out of its economy) and so adjusted my language appropriately.
Yes I too assumed it would do rather better than a teens mpg, I was expecting great things. It even has a lovely animation of the car on the LCD screen showing which powerplant it is using.
So yes, I did drive one for a day, and yes I did get in the teens of mileage. Why? I have not the foggiest, it used the petrol engine far more than I expected in stop start driving around town (surely the electric bit would have shown its strength here) so maybe there was an electrical fault or the battery was flat.
Oh, and for the record I presume the little green cars were for the little green men!
It clearly did not demonstrate its 'green' credentials to me.

Source of dust to dust data. Also reported in this weeks motoring telegraph.
I also remember a G-Wiz driver claiming to save £xx per year equivalent to 12000 miles of petrol but only spending a much smaller amount on charging the car (=3000 miles). So not comparing like with like and coming down in favour of the electrically powered vehicle When the sums were done properly it was found to be more expensive per mile.
Note also that the Lexus LS600h hybrid is exempt fom the kengestion charge despite producing emissions higher than a lot of petrol powered small cars, e.g. Volkswagen Polo.
