it was the dvd that made the noise, has that been replaced by a quieter model?

Its the same drive, the Hitachi, but where my console was loud even without a disc its quiet now. Its quiet playing DVD's and Xbox 1 games too Whirs up on 360 games to begin with but is pretty reasonable after that. A vast improvement on how it was before. Mine had the motherboard replaced with the new heatsink version; maybe the DVD controller has been amended too?

Either way, I'm pleased with it

i think they must have been changed every so often, i got mine from the Oct 06 batch and when not using the dvd theres very little sound at all.

Im kinda thinking i should have sent mine off, ive basically lost 6months of 'burn in time' so only giving me 2 1/2yrs for it to dump & a free fix...
