30% sounds under-estimated!
So is that 30% of consoles sold have been reported back to the retailer? what about the owners (like me) who just went straight back to MS?

Does every thread have to degenerate into a fanboy "my dad is bigger than your dad" post?
Quite a shocking figure in my eyes. Yes it will have tainted some peoples ownership and they'll look to move away. Others will bear it and stay with the brand. Me, I'm still waiting for them to make a reliable one, and for the PS3 to drop in price
It'd be nice to get some honesty and for them to say what the majority of problems actually are, if indeed they are aware (which I'm sure they are).

Nobodies perfect and currently I'd rather have the 360 over a PS3 any day (ok, I couldn't resist )

I'm just hoping my launch machine holds on till the Elite gets released
Agree it's a shocking statistic though, and it's not even like when MS repair a faulty machine it's forever more reliable as these just seem to go wrong as well.
If/when mine does fail, even if I got all my money back I'd still buy one over any other console currently available

I'm not bashing the 360 - I love mine. I'm annoyed at Micro$haft though.
I'm also only having a wind up about the PS3. I'm sure that those who've got one love it. I don't like it (didn't like the PS2 either).....
As Dunk sez - this is just an indication as to the poor support offered by the manufacturer (not the gaming experience )

Hang on, isn't this like saying "the Ford Focus is better because there are more of them than Ferraris"..............
or.....
"There are loads more accessories for a Focus than a 360 Modena"
Just because 360 has been round longer and has more games, doesn't make it better.
It may be, I don't know, but those are not good enough reasons.
And, plenty of PS3 have been sold worldwide, without reports of large numbers of returns. I'm sure it has it's owb problems though.

Just goes to show that the PS3 may be less prone to failure, the 360 currently is the best gaming platform. That of course may change in the run up to xmas, but I've not seen any PS3 game announcements that have made me want one yet...

Mate of mine had two go on Friday, Two! His original one went so he bought a back up, Friday night number 1 goes again, so he plugs in number 2 and that get the lights after a few minutes as well, he's a pretty pissed off games potato right now.

The Focus is eminently usable car, well suited to UK roads and does everything you could want of it.
The 360 is totally impractical for use in the UK apart from posing. Well engineered and technically capable there is nothing in the UK that allows it's technology and capability to be fully exploited.

Right, some questions for the 360 peeps and lawyers amongst you all.
1. My 360 is currently back at MS being repaired at a cost of £85 (19 months old) and will come back with a 12 month warranty, if it fails again it gets repaired FOC but does it get another 12 months warranty.
2. What are the exact consumer rights with electrical goods, is it really 5 years in EU law.
3. If I could return it to the retailer (Game in store) would I get a refund or would it be a replacement.
4. If it was a refund then I could be quids in as I bought it on Xmas eve as a package and it was £400 ish with 3 or 4 games which I don't play anymore.
5. Obviously I don't have the original box after 19 months does this affect my rights and the original receipt has gone but do have proof of purchase through a bank statement.
Many thanks
Mog

My thoughts exactly. The 360 is by far the best, most enjoyable and most involving console that I've owned. The point of this thread is that there are problems that need to be acknowledged by MS.

The quality of these machines is disgraceful and to be honest trading standards need to step in. I am on my 6th machine since November and both my best mate and myself got our units swapped on Friday and both are having problems already.
Simply unacceptable that a £300+ plus piece of equipment has been hashed together so shoddily.
Both the places that swapped our units seemed expectant of failures but both were a bit reluctant to talk number just suggesting there had been a few failures.
As far as I am aware after 19 months a unit being repaired is unlikely to have a 12 month warranty on the whole unit check the wording and if it does fail you contact was with the retailed which would have expired so you'd be dealing with MS now.
Did a bit of research into this however under the consumer goods act if it can be shown the product is sub standard and should not have been sold in the first place ( which is appearing to be the case) then you do have a case for a full refund less wear and tear.

I am on my second console, the first one was an early console bought a month after launch. The first console died about 4 weeks ago, so I bought a new core for £149 from boots. However, my brother who works in the electronics industry has got the first one working again after reflow soldering the circuit board. Its been fine for a few weeks now and going strong. At the same time he also carried the the x-clamp removal modification to help prevent the 3 red lights coming back. Xbox 360 – X Clamp Replacement
