If it's eating up resources on your machine, I would guess that something else is causing the problem.

Thanks to everyone who recommended Nod32 to me, I've been running it for nearly two months now and am very impressed As you all said it's incredibly light on resource to the point where I'm not even aware of it running (it is, I just checked ).
Thanks again people

PC Pro have just done a full test of all the usual suspects. Makes very interesting reading. Some of the software tested performed shockingly bad.
Anyway, their recommendation....
Kasperky AV 7.0 (although it's not released until the 1st week of August) and it caught 98% of the virii in their test, compared to;
Norton 2007 - 68%!!!!
Panda 2007 - 60%!!!!!!!!
Zone Alarm - 82%
McAfee 2007 - 78%
F Secure 2007 - 93%
NOD32 - 77%
AVG - 83%
Avast - 70%!!
...and the surprise of the show was.....
Avira - 92% - not bad for free software. Their only complaint about Avira was the advertising it pops up asking you to buy the full version every now and then.

yes that was very good. When i was looking for AV software I was tied between Kasperspy and Nod, on AV comparatives, Nod32 was always coming out on top and had praise in various other places so I went with that. Apparently they got 2000 malware objects on the machines and tested them all in isolated labs. AVG was suprising too, haven't had experiences of it for a while, last time I did it was dire....Bear in mind though, that mag several times gave Norton Internet security the best write up out of all in one security packages.....people I know had nothing but problems with it, install problems and the resource hungry nature of it. Edited to add they have also recommened Belkin routers over Draytek routers in previous reviews .The plot thickens

tried Avira earlier this evening as it goes...its slow (queue its your pc thats slow...) with annoying ad popup so took it off. As i rather not pay anything for AV i'll stick with AVG...
