taylor if you really want a scooby again i will do you a swap!
seriously m8 you need to take a scoob out again to determine wat you really want to do or if you can afford to why not by another classic, you can pick them up far cheaper than an evo these days and then if you don`t like it you won`t have lost your evo.
The chief is tryin to sell his 99 classic at moment and trust me he has spent a lot on it recently and it goes well and handles, he is only sellin due to debts catching up on him so needs the money which is a shame but i am sure he will have another soon!

Perrin Rotated mount turbo kit £1500 (comes with everything you need including Garrett GT 30) needed some special mods which I done myself at no cost to fit)
650cc Sards £250
Headers £250
Remap £400
Equal fuel rails £200
I thought the Garrett GT30 was a 500bhp+ turbo?

The car is down at Elstree studios again today for more filming. Should be on the telly in 5 weeks time give or take. Fame at last !!

When its back do you want a run out in it ? We can set something up if you wish.

The turbo has a 52 lb/ft min compressor which could generate up to 520 bhp but as Mine only Has the smaller 0.63 ext a/r I will probably only ever see 480 bhp (with the right supporting mods), this turbo makes 1.4 bar @ 4000 rpm so does not come in any later than a vf 34, only theres alot more power there

Am sure the engine will take more, but when it's a daily drive you have to consider how long it's going to last

Cheers for reply.

So would you say the turbo feels as responsive as a VF34 or do you notice a bit of lag, i.e. is it no boost at 3,000rpm and then all of a sudden it's 1.4bar at 4,000rpm?

Is hard for me the remember the days of the VF34, but I'm sure it used spool up just before 4000 rpm, you are right though at 3000 rpm accelerates just the same as when the VF34 was on there, but then get to 4000 rpm with the GT30 accelerates like a super sonic jet fighter

GT30`s are an awesome turbo, i had one on my cossie, was mapped @ 2.1 bar, tailing off to 1.8, never felt a kick like it, 3`rd to 4th was awesome acceleration.....

Interesting thread but very confusing

Sorry to kinda hi-jack but I didn't realise the UK car had different internals to the JDM .

I have an STi V7 Type UK (02), can somebody tell me whether this is a good car to start modifying or have I bought the wrong car for getting good HP gains?

What will its safe max hp be on std internals?

Thanks .

I think it is very hard to give a deffinate answer, Firstly will depend on what supporting mods you have (fuel system, Intercooler, turbo etc..) and then you have to consider how many miles the engine has done etc..

I'm sure you will get a range of figures from 380 anywhere upto 450 bhp, scoobymania had an sti like yours running 450 bhp on standard internals, but that was with very expensive supporting mods (rotated garrett set up, fmic).

Listen to some of the tuners on here i'm sure they will give you good advice.

The car has done 40,000 miles and I'm quite prepared to spend on supporting mods but forging the engine on a subaru is such a pain in the **** to do.

I'd be quite happy with 360hp & 360lbs/ft torque but it dosn't always work that way hehe. You normally end up with 420hp to get 360lbs/ft torque.

Any help would be much appreciated as have a blank canvas at the moment

This is what Zen performance would recommend for around 390 bhp which your car would handle and leave you with a big grin:-

I will scan the graphs of 390hp with the following mods:

MD321h turbo
3" sports cat exhaust system
walbro fuel pump
hyperflow cold air induction
650cc injectors
remap
