So we have various wood treatment, an astray full of screws, some nail varnish, some of LF's watercolour paint, and a hose attachment off a Dyson.
Do I win £5?

what do you do for a living bubba?
only asking as the gouges and mallet in the pic aren't what your normal DIYer has knocking around in the shed and the mallet looks like it's seen some action

I'm a joiner at the moment, hence the Marples carving gouges rather than Rolson or somesuch crap. The mallet was my old man's so I can't take any credit for the wear and tear. It's too light to be of any use until the late stages of carving. I need a couple of serious gouges that can be hit with a hammer.

Using power tools now eh? Isn't that cheating?
BTW if you want a proper wood carving mallet I have one for sale. It's a real 'king of mallets' that was bought from the finest sculpture tool supplier in London - Alec Tiranti. It's had very little light (female) use only.
Tiranti's Sculptors' Tools
Let me know if you would be interested, otherwise I'll sell it to a real sculptor.

pretty hard going oak, could be a bit of a lengthy project
are you planing on hollowing out the mouth and having a row of teeth either side or will this be a one sided detail sort of thing?

Of course it's not cheating. Would you expect me to have felled the oak with an axe and slabbed it with a two-man saw? I'm an artist, anyroad. Joe Davis made a 100 break with an umbrella, once.

there's normally quite a bit of good gear on ebay, tradesmen coming to retirement and selling up etc.

I might even use the Makita detail sander at some point.
Unclebuck, that Tiranti mallet apparently used to be Lignum Vitae. What is it now, please? Has it been alchemically transmuted?

Bigger than any Tiranti now list for sale on their website IIRC. That should give an indication of it's potential value....

I think I'll just get some nylon-handled gouges and use a 2lb lump hammer.
