so all this oil that is out there, are will drilling for it atm?

No it's being "mapped", "surveyed" and there's been some test wells etc.. but we aren't actually pumping the stuff up yet.
Basically it's going to be bloody expensive and difficult to extract, so we're sitting on it until it's worthwhile to go to the trouble of getting it out.
At which point I'm expecting a US carrier group to turn up looking for WMD's and terrorists!

Yes, when the price of oil is stupid, then it will make sense to extract it. But then I guess this whole issue will flair up again...

The difference is that in this day and age there's not really very much chance of Eire putting together an invasion force and occupying the North There is however, a very real threat of an Argentine invasion if we withdaw from the Falklands
As unsavoury as the it may have been, dealing with Adams and McGuinness is the only way a lasting peace could have been bought to the province unfortunately, as they were (and are) the only ones with real and effective control over the Provos
How much influence a certain Army regiment had over their attaining this position (by assisting the more hardline provos to 'accidentally' detonate themselves and their devices for instance), I believe will not emerge for a long time
